2.9.13 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Rout Lake Erie; Vucic Career-High 18 Points

(Painesville, OH) On the strength of a 18-0 run to close the first half, Walsh got back in the win column with 72-51 triumph at Lake Erie College (7-14, 4-13) today. The Cavs improves to 14-6 overall, and to 10-6 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Walsh remains in third place, one-half game behind second place Hillsdale College and a game and a half back of division leader Findlay.

With the score tied at 22 at the 8:39 mark, Walsh closed the half with an 18-0 run to take control of the game. Hrvoje Vucic (7-1, Jr., Split, Croatia/Faust Vrancic/Valparaiso), Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Sr., Marshallville, OH/Smithville) and Ryan Vanderhorst (6-3, Jr., New Knoxville, OH/HS) provided the first half firepower. Vucic hit 5-7 from the floor and scored 13 points off the bench.  Kornwoski added 10 points and Vanderhorst 9. Walsh also took very good ball with just three turnovers. 

The Cavs were never challenged in the final half, and led by as many as 26 points with 12:41 to play.

Kornowski led all scorers with 21 points, while also grabbing a game-high 9 rebounds.  He was 10-15 from the floor. Vucic finished with a career-high 18 points, on 7-11 from the field.  Vanderhorst finished with 14 points and Rian Burrell (6-3, So., Zanesville, OH/HS) 10. Brad DuPont (6-0, Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson/Wheeling Jesuit) had six assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Walsh shot 48% from the field and turned the ball over just 10 times.

The Cavs finish their four-game road trip 3-1.  They return to Alumni Arena on Thursday night to meet Ohio Dominican University in a GLIAC game at 6 pm.  The game will be broadcast live on 95.9 FM WNPQ.
