"Coutts and Sunseri Earn All-AMC South Division Honors"

Juniors Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) and Erin Sunseri (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) both earned All-AMC South Division honors for both their singles and doubles play. Honorees were chosen by a vote of the division's coaches.

Coutts earned All-AMC honors for the third consecutive year in both singles and doubles action. She went 12-5 at first singles this season, posting an 11-match win streak. For the first five matches of the season, she teamed with freshman Kaylyn Moyer (Ravenna, OH/HS) at first doubles, where she went 2-3. After that, Coutts was paired with Erin Sunseri where the two achieved success, finishing the season 8-3. Sunseri, who earned All-AMC singles honors for the first time, posted a 9-8 record at second singles.

"Cavs Finish Season 10-7 Overall, 2-2 in the AMC"

Walsh finished the 2003 season last week with a 7-2 non-conference win over Huntington College on Monday before losing 7-2 to eventual American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Tournament Champion, Cedarville University on Thursday. The Cavs end the year 10-7 overall and 2-2 in the AMC.

Junior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) easily defeated Becky Harness in the Cavs win over Huntington. She won 6-2, 6-1 at first singles. Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won 6-4, 6-3 at third singles. After pulling out a narrow win in her first set, Dana Wobser (So., Sandusky, OH/HS) defeated her opponent 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 at third singles. Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS) also added wins in singles play. Coutts teamed with Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) to win 8-5 at first doubles and Lance and Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) won 8-6 at third doubles.

The Cavs only managed to win two games against Cedarville, both of which came in singles play. Coutts easily won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles and Wobser won by identical 6-2 scores at fourth singles. Coutts finishes the season 12-5 overall at first singles. Wobser went 11-5 mostly at fourth and sixth singles. Erin Sunseri finished the year 9-8 at second singles, Melissa Wilson was 8-8 at third singles, Kaylyn Moyer was 9-5 at fourth and sixth singles, and Katie Lance was 10-6 at fifth singles. Coutts and Sunseri finished the season 8-3 at first doubles as did Lance and Shives at third doubles. Wilson and Wobser went 4-3 at second doubles.

"Cavs End Season at AMC/NAIA Region IX Championships"

Walsh (10-7, 2-2) concluded their season yesterday as they lost to Cedarville University in the quarterfinals of the AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament. The Cavs lost 7-2 with their only wins coming from junior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) and sophomore Dana Wobser (Sandusky, OH/HS). Coutts defeated Cedarville's Jodi Kraker 6-1, 6-0 at first singles while Wobser defeated Sarah Rogers at fourth singles by identical 6-2 scores.

"Cavs Idle Last Week/Prepare For AMC/NAIA Region IX Championships"

Walsh (9-6, 2-2) resumes play today with a non-conference match at Huntington College and then travels to Cedarville University for the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Championships on Wednesday. The Cavs were idle last week due to finals. Walsh finished the regular season third in the AMC South Division with a 2-2 record. Last season the Cavs lost to Cedarville in the finals of the tournament. Walsh hopes to regain the AMC/NAIA Region IX crown that eluded them last year.

"Cavs Split AMC Matches and Defeat Wooster"

Walsh hosted Malone College Tuesday and traveled to Ohio Dominican University on Thursday for two American Mideast Conference matches. The Cavs blanked the pioneers 9-0 but lost to the Panthers 5-4. Walsh also traveled to the College of Wooster on Wednesday for a non-conference match. Walsh now stands at 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the AMC. The Cvas are idle this week due to finals, but resume play next Monday when they travel to Huntington College.

Against Malone, Sarah Coutts (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) won at first singles by identical 6-0 scores. Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 6-3, 6-0 at second singles while Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won a hard fought match at third singles. Malone's Shannon Smith took Wilson to three sets, with Wilson winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Dana Wobser (So., Sandusky, OH/HS) won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles and Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS) also added singles wins. Coutts teamed with Sunseri to win their fourth straight match at first doubles. Wilson and Wobser defeated Malone's second doubles team 8-4. Lance and Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) won 8-1 at third doubles.

In the Cavs 5-4 win at Wooster, Coutts, Lance, Wobser, and Shives all won their singles matches, while only two of the three doubles teams won. Coutts and Sunseri won 8-5 at first doubles and Lance and Shives won 8-5 at third doubles.

Walsh just couldn't pull out a win against ODU. Only three Cavs won singles matches and only one doubles team. Sunseri won in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 6-3) at second singles. Lance won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles and Moyer won by default at sixth singles. Lance and Shives recorded the only doubles win at the third position for the Cavs. They defeated ODU 9-8 and winning a tie breaker 7-4.

Walsh's match that was scheduled for tomorrow at Ohio Dominican and then postponed is now back on. Walsh will travel to Ohio Dominican tomoroow morning. Match time is scheduled for 11 a.m.

"Cavs Down Malone in AMC Play"

Walsh hosted Malone College yesterday in their third American Mideast Confernece match of the season. The Cavs blanked the pioneers 9-0. Walsh now stands at 8-5 overall and 2-1 in the AMC.

In singles action, junior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) defeated Malone's top singles player, by identical 6-0 scores. Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 6-3, 6-0 at second singles. Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won a hard fought match at third singles. Malone's Shannon Smith took Wilson to three sets, with Wilson winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Dana Wobser (So., Sandusky, OH/HS) won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles and Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Arhbishop Hoban) and Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS) also added wins.

Coutts teamed with Sunseri to win their fourth straight match at first doubles. They won 8-4. Wilson and Wobser defeated Malone's second doubles team also by an 8-4 margin. Lance and Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) won 8-1 at third doubles. The Cavs travel to the College of Wooster today for a make-up match. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

"Cavs Blank Hiram, Lose To Cedarville"

Walsh (7-5, 1-1) blanked Hiram College 9-0 last Wednesday before losing 4-5 in an American Mideast Conference match at Cedarville on Saturday. The Cavs host AMC and cross-town rival Malone College tomorrow and travel to Ohio Dominican University on Thursday for another AMC match.

Walsh withstood the wind and cold to shutout Hiram College 9-0 last week. Juniors Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS), Erin Sunseri (Youngstown, OH/Boardman), and Melissa Wilson (Canton, OH/GlenOak) won at the first, second, and third singles positions. Dana Wobser (So., Sandusky, OH/HS), Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban), and Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS) also added singles wins. Coutts and Sunseri teamed up at first doubles to win 8-5, while Wilson and Wobser won 8-0 at second doubles. Lance and Shives received an easy win with a forfeit at third doubles.

The Cavs lost a hard fought match to defending NAIA Region IX Champion Cedarville. Coutts and Wobser pulled out the only singles wins for the Cavs. Coutts defeated Cedarville's Jodi Kraker by identical 6-1 scores at first singles to improve to 8-4 on the season. Wobser won 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles. She is now 7-4 overall. Coutts and Sunseri added their third straight win at first doubles with a 9-8 win. The duo stands at 5-1. Wilson and Wobser recorded the last win for the Cavs at second doubles. They won 8-6 and are now 3-0 at the position.

"Cavs Blank Hiram"

Walsh withstood the wind and cold to shutout Hiram College 9-0 yesterday. The win was the second straight for the Cavs and improved their record to 7-4. Junior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) won at first singles to improve to 7-4 and Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won at second singles to improve her record to 7-4. Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) was victorius at third singles and is 6-5 on the season. Walsh is at Cedarville for an American Mideast Conference match on Friday.

"Home Match With Hiram Rescheduled"

Walsh's match with Hiram College today has been rescheduled. The match will be played tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Walsh's courts. However, if it is raining, the match will be moved to 3:00 p.m. at the Hall of Fame Courts.

(6-4, 1-0) "Cavs Split Matches For The Week"

Walsh (6-4, 1-0) split their only two matches last week. The Cavs narrowly lost to NCAA DII Ashland University last Wednesday 4-5 before bouncing back to blank Shawnee State University 9-0 in their American Mideast Conference opener. The Cavs' match with Slippery Rock on Sunday was cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

Ashland's doubles teams proved to be too much for the Cavs. The only wins for the Cavs came in singles play. Junior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) easily defeated Ashland's top singles player 6-0, 6-0. Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 6-0, 6-4 at second singles. Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won at third singles after Anne Larue forfeited. The Cavs final win came from Dana Wobser's (So., Sandusky, OH/HS) 6-0,6-2 win at sixth singles.

It was all Walsh against SSU. Coutts, Sunseri, and Wilson won at the first, second, and third singles spots. Coutts and Sunseri both stand at 6-4 overall while Wilson evens her record to 5-5. Wobser also won at fourth singles and is now 5-2. Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles and Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS) won 6-0, 6-1 at sixth singles. They both are 5-4 on the season. Coutts and Sunseri won their third match at first doubles 8-0 and are now 3-1overall. Wilson and Wobser won 8-1 at second doubles and are 2-0. Lance teamed with Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) at third doubles to win 8-0. They are 3-1 at third doubles.

"Ashland Nips Cavs 5-4"

Ashland University edged the Cavs 5-4 yesterday. The loss dropped the Cavs to 5-4 on the season. Walsh captured four of six singles matches, but dropped all three doubles contests. Number one singles Sarah Coutts (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) won 6-0, 6-0 to inprove to 5-4 on the season. Number two singles Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) also won (6-0, 6-4). The Cavs are at Shawnee State on Saturday.

"Cavs Go 2-0 For The Week Defeating Mount Union and Spring Arbor"

Walsh added two more wins to their record after blanking Mount Union 9-0 last Monday and defeating Spring Arbor 6-3 this past Saturday. The Cavs improve to 6-3 overall. Walsh travels to Wooster on Tuesday (4 p.m.) and Ashland (3:30 p.m.) on Wednesday for non-conference matches before opening American Mideast Conference play on Saturday at Shawnee State (12 p.m.). Walsh hosts Slippery Rock on Sunday (12 p.m.) at Harvard Courts on 25th NW in Canton.

Every Cav received wins in the defeat of Mount Union. Sarah Coutts (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) lead the way for the Cavs at first singles defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-1. Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won by identical 6-3 scores at second singles. Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won at third singles, while Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS), Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban), and Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) also added wins in singles action. Coutts and Sunseri teamed together to win at first doubles and Wilson and Wobser won at second doubles. Lance and Shives won at third doubles.

Against Spring Arbor, Coutts again paved the way for the Cavs blanking Spring Arbor's Julie Maier 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and improving her overall record to 4-4. Moyer won at fourth singles and Lance won at fifth singles. They both now stand at 4-3 on the year. Shives also contributed another win in singles play at the sixth spot. She is 3-0 overall. Coutts and Sunseri teamed together to pull out an 8-5 win at first doubles. Lance and Shives added the Cavs final win at third doubles. Both doubles teams are 2-0.

"Cavs Blank Mount Union"

Walsh improved to 4-3 on the season, after defeating Mount Union College 9-0 in Alliance yesterday. The Cavs have won their last two matches. Walsh is idle until Saturday, when they travel to Michigan to meet Albion College.

"Cavs Defeat Baldwin Wallace"

Walsh evened its record at 3-3 with a 7-2 win at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio last week Monday. The Cavs won five out of six singles matches and captured two out of three doubles matches to register the win. The Cavs will play two non-conference mathes this week. Today they travel to Mount Union College for a 3:30 pm match and this Saturday they travel to Albion College(8:30 am).

Sarah Coutts (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS), Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman), Kalyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS), Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Dana Wobser (So., Sandusky, OH/HS) all won singles matches. Coutts improves to 2-4 at first singles while Sunseri evened her record to 3-3 at second singles. Moyer and Lance both stand at 2-3 at fourth and fifth singles resepectively and Wobser is 2-2 at sixth singles.

Coutts and Moyer and Wobser and Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) also won both of their doubles matches. Coutts and Moyer are 2-3 at first doubles and Wobser and Shives are 1-0 at third doubles.

"Cavs Trip Baldwin Wallace 7-2"

Walsh evened its record at 3-3 with a 7-2 win at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio yesterday. The Cavs won five out of six singles matches and captured two of three doubles matches to register the win. The Cavs are idle until March 24 when they meet Mount Union College.

"Cavs Drop Match to Oberlin"

Walsh traveled to Oberlin College this past weekend for a non-conference match. Oberlin defeated the Cavs 9-0. Walsh now stands at 2-3 on the season. The Cavs are off until March 24, when they travel to Mount Union College for a non-conference match-up with the Purple Raiders. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.

"Cavs Split Matches to Open Season"

The women's tennis team (1-1) split matches as they opened the season at Mercyhurst College over the weekend. Mercyhurst downed the Cavs 8-1, but Walsh regrouped for their first win with a 9-0 blanking of Allegheny. Dana Wobser (So., Sandusky, OH/HS) was the only Cavalier to win against Mercyhurst, winning in number six singles. Each Cavalier came away with a win against Allegheny. Sarah Coutts (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS0 won 8-3 at first singles and Erin Sunseri (Jr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 8-4 at second singles. Melissa Wilson (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Kaylyn Moyer (Fr., Ravenna, OH/HS), Katie Lance (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Jill Shives (Fr., Green, OH/HS) also earned wins in their respective singles matches. Coutts and Moyer won 9-7 at first doubles, while Sunseri and Wilson won in second doubles. Lance and Wobser won at third doubles.
