"Walsh Selects Kucklick and Lahna as Top Athletes"

Walsh University has selected Ruth Kucklick (Sr., Los Gatos, CA) and Chad Lahna (Sr., West Lafayette, OH/Ridgewood) as their 2004-05 Female and Male Athletes of the Year. Kucklick played volleyball for the Cavs and Lahna baseball.

Kucklick, who was tabbed second team NAIA All-American, also earned first team All-American Mideast Conference South Division honors. She was second on the team, and third in the AMC with 564 kills for a 4.5 average. Ruth led the Cavs in aces with 69, which was fifth best in the AMC. During the Kucklick years, Walsh won three AMC and Region IX titles and reached the NAIA National Tournament three times, advancing to the "Elite Eight" in 2003. She was a second team NAIA All-American in 2004.

Lahna, named NAIA honorable mention All-American as an outfielder, led the Cavs with nine homeruns and a Walsh record 58 RBI, while hitting .339. The only Cavalier to start all 57 games, Lahna also led the team in total bases (101), slugging percentage (.591), walks (32) and with three triples. He also finished second in runs scored (58), doubles (10) and third in hits (58). Lahna also served as the Cavs closer, notching nine saves, while fashioning a 2-1 record and 1.02 ERA. He was also named American Mideast Conference North Division Player of the Year, first team All-AMC North and NAIA Region IX. He was also selected as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete and as an All-AMC Scholar-Athlete
