"Coutts and Sunseri Selected Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Coutts & Cady named First Team All-AMC South"

Walsh senior's Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right and Erin Sunseri (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) have been Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Coutts is a physical therapy major and fashioned a perfect 4.00 grade point average this past spring. She carries a 3.95 GPA overall. Coutts fashioned a career singles mark of 60-25 and finished 14-5 this past season at first singles and was named first team All-American Mideast Conference South Division in singles and doubles. Sunseri compiled a 3.56 spring GPA and carries a 3.51 overall mark. She is a communications major. Sunseri finished the spring 10-11 at third and fourth singles and with a 45-37 career singles mark.

Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right joined Coutts on the All-AMC South singles and doubles team. She led the Cavs with a 16-5 mark at second singles. Cady and Coutts played first doubles and finished 16-4.

Cavs (14-5, 4-1) Finish 2nd at NAIA Region IX Tournament

Walsh's outstanding season came to a close on Friday, when they were bested 7-2 by Cedarville University in the championship match of the NAIA Region IX Tournament. The Cavs finished 14-5, posting their best record since they won the region title at 12-11 in 2001. Walsh reached the title match by blanking Geneva and Seton Hill by identical 9-0 scores.

Senior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) finished a superb career with a 14-5 mark at first singles. A sure-fire first team All-American Mideast Conference choice, Coutts fashioned a career singles mark of 60-25. Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) led the Cavs with a 16-5 mark at second singles. Cady and Coutts played first doubles and finished 16-4. Senior Erin Sunseri (Youngstown, OH/Boardman) finished 10-11 at third and fourth singles and with a 45-37 career singles mark. Sunseri finished 8-6 at second doubles with Melissa Wilson (Canton, OH/GlenOak). Wilson fashioned a 7-5 singles record and a 30-30 career singles mark. Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS) finished 8-8 at sixth, fourth and third singles. Junior Dana Wobser (Sandusky, OH/HS) was 13-6 at fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Wobser and Jill Shives (So., Green, OH/HS) fashioned an 8-5 mark at third doubles.

Cedarville Downs Cavs 7-2 in NAIA Region IX Title Match

Cedarville University (13-2) defeated Walsh University (14-5) 7-2 in the NAIA Region IX title match, played indoors this morning at Hall of Fame Courts in Canton, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets will now advance to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama, May 17-21.

Cavs Advance to NAIA Region IX Championship Match

Walsh (14-4) has advanced to the NAIA Region IX championship match after blanking Seton Hill College (6-6) 9-0 today at Stadium Courts in Canton, OH. Walsh will meet Cedarville University, who defeated Ohio Dominican 5-4 earlier today. The winner advances to the NAIA National Championships in Mobile, Alabama, May 17-21. The championship match is slated for tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Harvard Courts in Canton, Ohio.

Walsh Blanks Geneva 9-0 in NAIA Tournament Opener

Walsh (13-4) shutout Geneva College (6-6) 9-0 in their NAIA Region IX Tournament opener at Stadium Courts in Canton this morning. The win advances Walsh to the tournament semifinals against Seton Hill College (6-5) at 9 a.m. at Stadium Courts tomorrow. Seton Hill is the American Mideast Conference North Division number one seed. Walsh is the AMC South's number two seed.

Cavs Second Seed in AMC South, Open NAIA Region lX Tournament vs. Geneva

Walsh (12-4) meets Geneva College (6-5), Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the first match of the NAIA Region lX Tournament. The match will be played at Stadium Park in Canton. Walsh is the second seed from the American Mideast Conference South Division and Geneva is the third seed from the AMC North Division. The winner meets the top seed from the AMC North, Seton Hill (6-5) at 9 a.m. on Thursday, also at Stadium Park. The championship match is at 9 a.m. on Friday at Harvard Courts. The tournament champion earns an automatic berth to the NAIA Nationals in Mobile, Ala. on May 17-21.

Cavs Rout Malone 8-1

Walsh (11-4, 4-1) won its third straight match with an 8-1 win over Malone College (6-11, 1-4) today in an American Mideast Conference match. The Cavs have won nine of their last ten matches. Walsh closes the regular season this weekend at the Mercyhurst Invitational.

Sarah Coutts (Sr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles and Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right won 6-3, 7-5 at second singles. Coutts and Cady each stand 12-3 on the season. The duo also posted an 8-2 win at first doubles to improve to 13-2. Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) (6-2, 6-4) , Katie Lance (Jr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) (6-3, 6-4) and Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) (6-0, 6-2) also posted singles wins. Sunseri and Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won 9-8 (7-5) at second doubles and Wobser and Jill Shives (So., Green, OH/HS) won 8-3 at third doubles.

Cavs (10-4, 3-1) Down Tiffin/Play Malone on Tuesday

Walsh (10-4, 3-1) defeated Tiffin University 6-3 in their only match last week. The Cavs play at Malone on Tuesday and at the Mercyhurst Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.

The Cavs posted three singles' wins and four doubles' wins to record the match victory over Tiffin. Senior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right won 6-4, 6-2 at first singles and Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Coutts and Cady stand 11-3 on the season. The duo also posted an 8-1 win at first doubles to improve to 12-2. Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) won 6-2, 6-2 at sixth singles and is 8-6 on the season. Cavs (9-4, 1-1) Win Three of Four Matches, Fall to Cedarville/Blank Shawnee State

Walsh won three out of three matches played last week. They downed the College of Wooster 7-2 in the completion of a rain-delayed match. Walsh then lost 5-4 to Cedarville in their American Mideast Conference opener, but rebounded to blank Shawnee State 9-0. They also defeated Case Western Reserve University 5-4. The Cavs travel to Tiffin on Sunday (25th) for an AMC match.

In the Cavs tough AMC loss to Cedarville, Sarah Coutts (Sr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) won at first singles and Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won at second singles. The pair also won at first doubles.

Cavs (6-3) To Complete Wooster Match, Have Busy Week With Three Other Matches

After playing just a portion of one match last week, the Cavs play three matches and complete their suspended match this week. Walsh led the College of Wooster 3-1, when weather halted play last Tuesday. The match will be completed at Wooster on Tuesday. Walsh is at Case Western Reserve University on Wednesday and host Cedarville University on Friday and Shawnee State on Saturday.

Weather Halts Wooster Match, California PA Match Cancelled

Walsh was up 3-1, when the weather halted play with the College of Wooster yesterday. The match will be complete on April 13th at Wooster at 4 p.m. Walsh's scheduled match with California PA for tomorrow has been cancelled.

Cavs (6-3) Defeat Slippery Rock and Ohio Dominican/Win Streak at Four

Walsh improved to 6-3 overall and to 1-0 in the American Mideast Conference, after defeating both Slippery Rock and Ohio Dominican (AMC) last week. The Cavs travel to Wooster on Tuesday and to California Pa. on Thursday. Both are non-conference matches.

Walsh won its third straight match, with a 5-4 win at Slippery Rock on Monday. Slippery Rock entered the match ranked 41st in NCAA ll. The Cavs captured four singles matches and one doubles match in the win. Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman), Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS) top right, Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) and Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right all won their respective singles matches. Wobser and Jill Shives (So., Green, OH/HS) won at third doubles.

Cavs Defeat Ohio Dominican

Walsh improved to 6-3 overall and to 1-0 in the American Mideast Conference, after defeating Ohio Dominican University 6-3 today. The win was the fourth straight for the Cavs.

Cavs Win Third Straight, Edge Slippery Rock 5-4

Walsh (5-3) won its third straight match, with a 5-4 win at Slippery Rock yesterday. Slippery Rock entered the match ranked 41st in NCAA ll. The Cavs captured four singles matches and one doubles match in the win. Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman), Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS), Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) and Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) all won their respective singles matches. This Saturday, the Cavs open American Mideast Conference play when they host Ohio Dominican University at the Harvard Courts. Match time is set for 11 a.m.

Cavs Defeat Ashland and Baldwin-Wallace

Walsh improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating both Ashland University and Baldwin Wallace College last week. The Cavs travel to Slippery Rock University today for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference match. This Saturday, they open American Mideast Conference play when they host Ohio Dominican University at the Harvard Courts. Match time is set for 11 a.m.

Walsh blanked Ashland 9-0 last Tuesday to even their record at 3-3. Senior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) defeated the Eagles' top singles player by identical 6-1 scores, while freshman Kristen Cady (Canton, OH/GlenOak) also defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-1 at second singles. Other wins came from Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) top right who won 6-1, 6-0 at third singles, Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) bottom right who posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles and Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS) who won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles. Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won by default at sixth singles. Coutts and Cady combined to win 8-1 at first doubles and Sunseri and Wilson won 8-2 at second doubles. Jill Shives (So., Green, OH/HS) and Nicole Hagy (Hartville, OH/Lake) won by forfeit at third doubles.

The Cavs improved to 4-3 after defeating BW on Thursday. The Cavs swept three doubles matches and captured four out of six singles matches to defeat the Yellow Jackets 7-2. Sarah Coutts won her third straight match to improve to 5-2 overall after winning 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Erin Sunseri won 6-2, 6-3 at third singles and now stands at 3-4 for the season. Dana Wobser posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles and is also 3-4 overall. Melissa Wilson won 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles and is now 4-3 on the year. Coutts and Kristen Cady won their third straight match at first doubles defeating BW's top duo 8-6. They are currently 6-1 at first doubles. Sunseri and Wilson added another win to their record (2-1) after winning 8-4 at second doubles. Wobser and Jill Shives evened their record at 1-1 with an 8-3 decision at third doubles.

Cavs Down Baldwin-Wallace 7-2

Walsh improved to 4-3 on the season, after defeating Baldwin-Wallace College 7-2 yesterday. The Cavs swept three doubles matches and captured four out of six singles matches. Senior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right improved to 5-2 overall after winning 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Coutts and Kristen Cady (Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right won 8-6 at first doubles to improve 6-1. Cady, however,lost 2-6, 1-6 at second singles. Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 6-2, 6-3 at third singles and Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fourth singles. Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won 6-1, 6-2 at fifth singles. Sunseri and Wilson won 8-4 at second doubles and Wobser and Jill Shives (So., Grreen, OH/HS) won 8-3 at third doubles.

Cavs Blank Ashland

Walsh evened its record at 3-3 after blanking Ashland University 9-0 yesterday. Senior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right improved to 4-2 overall after winning 6-1, 6-1 at first singles, while freshman Kristen Cady (Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right also won 6-1, 6-1 at second singles. Cady also improves to 4-2 for the season. The duo combined for their fifth win at first doubles, defeating Ashland's top team 8-1. The pair currently stand at 5-1 at first doubles. Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 6-1, 6-0 at third singles, Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles and Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS) won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles. Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won at default at sixth singles. Sunseri and Wilson won 8-2 at second doubles. The Cavs won third doubles by default.

Walsh's only scheduled match last week, against Ashland University was postponed due to the weather. This week, the Cavs host Baldwin-Wallace on Thursday. The site and time have yet to be determined.

Cavs (2-3) Lose at Oberlin College

Walsh dropped their only match of the week last Saturday at Oberlin College losing 3-6. This week, the Cavs host Ashland University on March 18th at 3:30 p.m.

Walsh could only muster two wins in singles play and one in doubles. Senior Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) improved to 3-2 overall after winning 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 at first singles, while freshman Kristen Cady (Canton, OH/GlenOak) won 6-3, 6-2 at second singles. Cady also improves to 3-2 for the season. The duo combined for their fourth win at first doubles, defeating Oberlin's top team 8-2. The pair currently stand at 4-1 at first doubles.

Cavs Drop To 2-2

Walsh dropped their only two matches (Lee University and Shorter College), while on their spring break trip in Rome, Georgia last week. The Cavs are back in action on March 13, when they host Oberlin College at 12 p.m. If the weatherman does not cooperate, the match will be moved indoors to Oberlin.

Walsh only squeaked out one win in their 8-1 loss to Lee, who currently received votes in the latest NAIA national ranking. The duo of Sarah Coutts (Sr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS and Kristen Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won 8-1 at first doubles. It was the same story in the Cavs 8-1 loss to defending National Champions and currently ranked 10th in the NAIA, Shorter College. This time though, it was Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) and Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) who won 8-5 at third doubles.

Cavs Lose Second Straight Match, 8-1 to Shorter College (GA)

Walsh lost its second straight match to even their record at 2-2 on the season. The Cavs were bested 8-1 by Shorter College yesterday. The Cavs third doubles team of Dana Wobser (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) and Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) posted the Cavs only victory (8-5). The Cavs are back in action on March 13, at home against Oberlin College.

Cavs Fall 8-1 to Lee University

Walsh (2-1) lost its first match of the season yesterday, losing 8-1 to Lee University (TN) in Rome, Georgia. The Cavs number one doubles team, comprised of Sarah Coutts (Sr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right and Kristen Cady (Fr. North Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right garnered the only win for the Cavs (8-1). Walsh continues its southern swing today, with a match against Berry College at 2 p.m.

Cavs Improve to 2-0 With Win (6-3) Over Kenyon College

Walsh improved to 2-0 on the young season, after defeating Kenyon College 6-3 at Hall of Fame Courts last night. The Cavs swept the three doubles matches, after splitting six singles matches. Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right and freshman Kristen Cady (North Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right each won their respective matches at first and second singles and together at first doubles. Coutts improved to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 singles win and Cady improved to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 singles win. The duo combined to win 8-3 at first doubles to improve to 2-0 in doubles play. Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) caputred the Cavs other singles win, with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 victory at fifth singles. Wilson then combined with Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) for an 8-5 win at third doubles and Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) and Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS) won 8-3 at second doubles.

Cavs Blank Mount Union in Season Opener

Walsh opened the season with a 9-0 win over Mount Union (0-3) last night. Walsh meets Kenyon College at Hall of Fame Courts on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Number one singles player Sarah Coutts (New Philadelphia, OH/HS) top right breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win, as did freshman Kristen Cady (North Canton, OH/GlenOak) bottom right at second singles. Erin Sunseri (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) won 6-4, 6-2 at third singles. Dana Wobser (Jr., Sandusky, OH/HS) won at fourth singles 6-2, 6-2, Melissa Wilson (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won at fifth singles 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 and Kaylyn Moyer (So., Ravenna, OH/HS) at sixth singles 6-0, 6-0. Cady and Coutts won at number one doubles 8-1. Sunseri and Moyer won 8-5 at number two doubles and Wilson and Wobser Won 8-6 at third doubles.

Cavs Open New Season

Walsh opens the season with matches against Mount Union College and Kenyon College this week. The Cavs meet the Purple Raiders at Mount Union at 6:30 tonight and battle Kenyon at the Hall of Fame Courts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday night. Walsh finished 10-7 last season.
