Sara Piersante Named NAIA Daktronics All-America Scholar-Athlete

Walsh's Sara Piersante (Sr., Canfield, OH/HS) top right has been selected to the NAIA Daktronics All-America Scholar-Athlete team. Pierstante, an Education major, compiled a 3.96 GPA in the spring semester and has an overall GPA of 3.58. Piersante also competed at the 53rd annual NAIA Track and Field Championships in Louisville, Kentucky this past weekend and finished 15th (41:16.68) in the 10,000m.

Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) finished 18th (2:21.89) in the 800m and Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat) 20th (130-11) in the discus.

Klein 16th After Prelims in 800m at NAIA Championships

Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) bottom right stands 16th after the prelims in the 800m at the NAIA Track and Field Champiopnships in Louisville, KY. Klein finished 6th in the second heat (2:18.36).

"Walsh Track Individual Ready For NAIA National Meet"

Walsh University will have three representatives at the 53rd annual NAIA Track and Field Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, May 27-29. Sara Piersante (Sr., Canfield, OH/HS) top right will compete in the 10,000m, Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat) in the discus and Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) bottom right in the 800m. Klein was the final Cavalier to qualify, when she qualified in a time of 2:18.65 at the Windsor Last Chance Meet on May 14th.

Cavs at Al Campbell/Wright Open

Walsh participated in the Al Campbell (named after the curent Walsh and former Akron coach)/Wright Open last weekend and had several outstanding performances. This week, the Cavs travel to Windsor, Ontario Canada with the men for the Windsor Last Chance Meet. This is the final chance for the Cavs to qualify individuals for the NAIA Nationals, May 27-29 in Louisville, KY.

NAIA National qualifier Sara Piersante (Sr., Canfield, OH/HS) finished third in the 3000m steeplechase (12:33.24) and Walsh's 4x400m relay team also garnered a fourth place finish (4:04.8). Lindsey Walker (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS), Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) and Nicole Rogers (Fr., East Canton, OH/HS) comprised the Cavs team. Klein finished fifth in the 800m (2:19.53), while Patton finished 7th (2:21.35). Walker grabbed a 7th place in the 400m (61.50) and Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat) was 11th in the hammer (135'9").

Cavs at Al Campbell Invitational

Walsh will compete at the Al Campbell Invitational on Saturday at the University of Akron. The invitational is named for the former Zips Coach, who currently coaches the Cavs.

Cavs Finish 4th at AMC Championships

Walsh finished in fourth place with 93.5 points at the American Mideast Conference championships at Roberts Wesleyan College. Malone won the event with 173 points. The Cavs posted numerous second place finishes. Sara Piersante (Sr., Canfield, OH/HS) top right, Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat), Jessica LeGrair (Fr., Copley, OH/HS) bottom right and the Cavs 4 x 800m relay team all qualified provisionally for nationals. Piersante finished second in the 10,000m (39:11.38). Greller was second in the discus (134-6). She was also second in the hammer (140-11). LeGrair placed second in the long jump (17" 6.25"). Clair LaCava (Sr., West Geauga, OH/HS), Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name), Tess Francis (Fr., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) and Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) finished second in the 4 x 800m relay (10:10.40). Klein was also fourth in the 800m (2:20.73).

The Cavs are at the Ohio State University Invitational on Friday at Saturday.

Cavs 4th at AMC Championships

Walsh's women's track finished fourth at the American Mideast Conference championships held at Roberts Wesleyan College yesterday with 93.5 points. Malone College won the event. Details will be posted when they become available.

Cavs Fare Well at Slippery Rock Invitational

Walsh's women's track team fared well at the Slippery Rock Invitational over the weekend. The Cavs 4x100 relay team and the 4x400 relay team each placed third. The Cavs 4x100 team was comprised of Jessica LeGrair (Fr., Copley, OH/HS), Kristen Boyne (Jr., Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan), Jessica Scheeser (Jr., Green, OH/HS) and Lindsey Walker (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak). They placed third in a time of 50.59. Walker was also a member of the Cavs 4x400 team along with Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS), Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) and Nicole Rogers (Fr., East Canton, OH/HS). Their third place finish was in a time of 4:06.93. Sarah Richards (So., East Canton, OH/HS) placed fourth in the shot put (36'3"). Jessica Scheeser placed fifth in the 100m (13.12) and Cara Klein was fifth in the 800m (2:20.60).

Cavs Do Well at Mount Union/Walker & Greller Win

Walsh's women's track team performed well at the Mount Union Invitational and did so without the services of Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) and Mikka Ray (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS). Both missed the meet due to illness, but are expected back on Saturday when the Cavs travel to Slippery Rock.

Lindsey Walker (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) top right and Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat) bottom right posted the Cavs only first place finishes. Walker won the 200m (26.33) and Greller was first in the discus (131-03.25). Walker was also third in the 400m (1:00.93) and Greller was fourth in the shot put (35-08.25). Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) finished second in the 800m (2:23.56) and Tess Francis (Fr., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) finished third in the 400m hurdles (1:13.64).

Cavs Garner Eight First Place Finishes at Westminster

Walsh's women's track team came away with eight first place finishes at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday. Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) top right won the 800m (2:21.86) and was a part of the Cavs' victorious 4 x 400 relay team, along with Nicole Rogers (Fr., East Canton, OH) bottom right, Lindsey Walker (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) and Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name). Walker also won the 400mn (61.74), while Patton notched a first place finish in the 1500m (5:07.12). Walker and Patton were joined by Jessica Scheeser (Jr., Green, OH/HS) and Jessica LeGrair (Fr., Copley, OH/HS) on the Cavs' first place 4 x 100 relay team. LeGrair also posted a first place finish in the long jump (17'0"). Tess Francis (Fr., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) finished first in the 400m hurdles (70.23) and Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat) was first in the discus (123' 2.5").

The Cavs are at Mount Union on Saturday.

Cavs Third at Wooster Invitational/Sara Piersante 1st in 5000m

Walsh's women's track team finished a strong third at the College of Wooster Invitational on Saturday. The Cavs (83 points) placed just three points behind second place Ohio Wesleyan. Sara Piersante (Sr., Canfield, OH/HS) top right posted the Cavs only first place finish, winning the 5000m (19:01.82). Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) finished second in the 800m (2:22.07) and freshman Jessica LeGrair (Copley, OH/HS) bottom right was second in the long jump (16'-6 1/2"). Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS), finished third in the 400m (60.61) and fourth in the 800m (2:22.77). Mikka Ray (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS) was third in the triple jump (33'-3 3/4") and Tess Francis (Fr., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) finished fourth in the 400 hurdles (72.37). Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, OH/Magnificat) was fourth in the discus (120' 9 ") and Jessica Scheeser (Jr., Green, OH/HS) was fifth in the 100 hurdles (17.06).

Walsh is at Case Western Reserve on Saturday.

Klein and Patton Reach Semis in 800m at Indoor Championships

Walsh qualifiers Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) and Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) reached the semifinals in the 800m before bowing out at the NAIA Indoor Nationals held in Johnson City, TN, last week. Klein turned in a time of 2.22.93 and Patton 2.23.93. Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, Magnificat) did not qualify in the weight throw.

Cavs Qualify Klein and Patton at Kent State Open

Walsh qualified Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) and Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) for the NAIA Indoor Nationals, due to their performances at the Kent State Tune-Up on Saturday. Klein (2:19.77) and Patton (2:19.76) each qualified in the 800m. The indoor championships will be held in Johnson City, TN, March 4-6.

Provisional qualifiers include Sheila Greller (Jr., Fairview Park, Magnificat) in the weight throw (44' 8.25") and the Cavs 4 x 400 relay team. Nicole Rogers (Fr., Akron, OH/Green), Lindsey Walker (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Klein and Patton set a school mark (4:06.69) in the relay.

The Cavs are at Marietta on Friday.

Cavs Fare Well at Findlay Open

Walsh fared well at the University of Findlay open last Friday, with numerous top ten finishes. The Cavs are at Kent State University on Saturday.

Lindsey Walker (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) placed third in the 400m (61.67) and along with Meghan Patton (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name), Nicole Rogers (Fr., Akron, OH/Green) and Cara Klein (Sr., Green, OH/HS) finished third (4:16.83) in the 4 x 400 relay. Patton finished fourth in the 800m (2:24.54) and Klein fifth (2:24.88). Sara Piersante (Sr., Canfield, OH/HS) finished seventh in the 3000m (11:03.89) and Mikka Ray (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS) seventh in the triple jump (32' 4.75").
