Cavs Fourth at AMC Championships

Walsh (38-31) finished fourth at the American Mideast Conference/Region lX Championships held in Howard, Ohio last Friday and Saturday. The Cavs were in third place after the first day, and actual led the field after 13 holes on the final day. Walsh finished with a 54-hole total of 933. Malone finished first (918), Shawnee State (930) second and Tiffin (931) third. Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) shot consecutive rounds of 75 to finish tied for the lead with Shawnee's Matt DeHart and Malone's Keith Cunnigham. DeHart captured medalist honors, winning on the third playoff hole. Saltmarsh finished with a 54-hole total of 227.

David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) shot 77-78 the last two rounds to finish tied for seventh with a total of 232. Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) tied for 10th (82-75-79=236), Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) tied for 32nd (80-76-86=242) and Alan Dattilio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) was 35th (80-80-84=244).

Cavs in Third Place, Eight Strokes Off Pace at AMC/Region lX Championships

Walsh is in third place at the American Mideast Conference/Region lX Championships after the first 27 holes. The final 27 holes will be played today at Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, Ohio. Shawnee State (460) is the leader in the clubhouse. Malone (464) is four strokes off the pace in second place and defending champion, Mount Vernon Nazarene shot 473 and is in sixth place. Walsh shot 468. Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) is in a three-way tie for the lead after firing a first round 76 and a 37 (113). David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) is two strokes behind the leaders after rounds of 75-40 (115). Alan Dattilio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) and Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) each came in at 120, and Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) at 122.

Cavs (34-28) at AMC/Region lX Tournament on Thursday and Friday

Walsh is preparing for the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region lX Tournament on Thursday and Friday. The 54-hole event will be played at Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, Ohio, home course for Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Walsh finished third last season. Mount Vernon is the defending champion. Walsh last won the AMC championship in 2002.

Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) tees off at 8:32 in the morning on Thursday as part of the first group. Saltmarsh is averaging 73.4, which includes fall play. Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) (77.5) tees off at 9:04 a.m., David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) (78.6) at 9:12 a.m., Alan Dattilio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) (79.6) at 9:28 a.m. and Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) (80.5) at 9:35 a.m.

Saltmarsh Medialist at Mount Vernon, Cavs Finish 2nd

Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) won the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational over the weekend, with rounds of 70 and 75 for a two-day total of 145. The Cavs finished second in the event and stand 34-28 on the season. They are idle this week.

Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway), who won the Walsh Invitational last week, played well again. Sigler shot a 75 and 73 for a 148 total. Alan Dattilio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) shot 156 (80-76), David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) 162 (80-82) and Jeff Hershey (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) shot 168 (83-82).

Chris Sigler Medialist at Walsh Invitational/Cavs Finish 5th

Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) top right won the Walsh Invitational, held at Prestiwck Country Club on Monday and Raintree Country Club today. Sigler fired an 80 yesterday, but came back with a 72 in less than favorable conditions today. Sigler played on Walsh's "B" team. The Cavs (27-28) "A" team finished 5th with a two-day total of 641. Mount Vernon Nazarene came from 14 strokes back to win the two-day event. They shot a 300 today, to best Malone's "B" team by three strokes and Tiffin by five strokes.

Other Walsh "A' finishes: Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) shot a 76 today after being disqualified yesterday, Jeff Hershey (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) shot 159 (82-77), David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) 160 (78-82), Alan Dattilio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) 164 (81-83) and Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) 165 (86-79). On Walsh's "B" team, Michael DeFabbio (Fr., Steubenville, OH/Central Catholic) shot 167 (89-78), Andrew Shaffer (So., Minerva, OH/HS) 172 (88-84), Rob Reck (So., DeWitt, OH/HS) 178 (88-90) and David Russell 176 (92-84).

Cavs (24-24) Fourth at Ashland/Tie For Fourth at Urbana

Walsh (23-25) finished fourth at the Ashland University Invitational and tied for fourth at the Urbana University Invitational last week. The Cavs host the Walsh Invitational at Prestwick Country Club on Monday and Tuesday at Raintree Country Club. The Cavs are at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational on Friday at Saturday.

Walsh's Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) top right garnered medalist honors in a sudden-death playoff at the weather shortened Ashland Invitational last Monday. Saltmarsh carded a 73 and won in a playoff against Gannon's Davd Patronik. Walsh finished fourth with a 315 total. David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) bottom right finished tied for 17th after shooting 79. Jeff Hershey (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) tied for 39th with an 81, Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) tied for 46th with an 82 and Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) tied for 55th with an 84. Alan Datillio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) shot 79 for the Cavs "B" team and David Rose (Fr., Marietta, OH/HS) fired an 87.

The Cavs tied for fourth place with Tiffin at Urbana with a 615 total. David Brodie paced the Cavs with a 150 total (76-74). Chris Saltmarsh shot 154 (79-75), Chad Coombes 157 (77-80), Chris Sigler 159 (81-78) and Jeff Hershey (160 (76-84). Saltmarsh leads the Cavs with a 75.6 average. Brodie is the only other Cavalier shooting under 80 (78.9).

Saltmarsh Wins Playoff at Ashland/Cavs Finish Fourht

Saltmarsh carded a 73 and won in a playoff against Gannon's Davd Patronik. Walsh (18-22) finished fourth with a 315 total. Grand Valley State won the Invitational. David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) finished tied for 17th after shooting 79. Jeff Hershey (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) tied for 39th with an 81, Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) tied for 46th with an 82 and Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) tied for 55th with an 84. Alan Datillio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) shot 79 for the Cavs "B" team and David Rose (Fr., Marietta, OH/HS) fired an 87.

Walsh is at the Urbana University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Walsh plays at Ashland today and at Urbana on Friday and Saturday. The first round of the Ashland Invitational was postponed on Sunday.

Walsh (11-19) finished seventh at the Malone College Invitational held on Friday and Saturday. The Cavs finished with a two-day total of 608. Walsh's Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) top right, who is ranked 25th nationwide, missed the opening round on Friday due to a bout with the flu. He shot a 73 on Saturday. Jeff Hershey (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) bottom right and Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) each shot 153. Hershey shot 73-80 and Coombes 78-75. David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) carded 154 (77-77) and Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) 155 (79-76). Alan Datillio (Fr., Salem, OH/West Branch) led the "B" team with a two-day total of 156 (78-78). David Rose (Fr., Marietta, OH/HS) shot 159 (77-82), Michael DeFabbio (Fr., Steubenville, OH/Central Catholic) shot 160 (81-79), Rob Reck (So., DeWitt, OH/HS) 166 (85-81) and David Russell (Fr., Glasgow, Scotland/Cumbernauld) 170 (83-87).

Cavs 7th at Malone

Cavs Place 14th at Rome News-Tribune Invitational in Rome, GA

Walsh (4-13) finished 14th in the 18-team Rome News-Tribune Invitational in Rome, Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday. The Cavs finished with a two-day total of 974 in the 54-hole event. Host school Berry College won the event. Walsh's Chris Saltmarsh (Sr., Inverness, FL/Citrus), who is ranked 25th nationwide, shot two rounds of 77 with a final round of 75 to finish 229 and tied for 7th. Chad Coombes (Fr., Medina, OH/Buckeye) and Chris Sigler (So., Wooster, OH/Triway) each shot 246 and tied for 60th. David Brodie (Fr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) shot 248 and tied for 68th, Jeff Hershey (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) shot 251 and tied for 78th and Michael DiFabbio (Fr., Steubenville, OH/Central Catholic) shot 261, good for 97th place.

Walsh is at the Malone Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Cavs Open Season in Georgia

Walsh opens the season today and tomorrow in Georgia at the Berry College Invitational. This Friday and Saturday, the Cavs compete at the Malone Invitational.

Saltmarsh Ranked NAIA's Top Golfer

Walsh senior Chris Saltmarsh (Jr., Inverness, FL/Citrus) top right is ranked number one in the NAIA by GoltStat. Saltmarsh is also ranked 25th nationwide, which includes all goflers at every collegiate level. He is also the number one golfer in Ohio. Saltmarsh finished a very successful fall season, in which he won two tournaments, the Malone Inviational and the Powerade Classic. Chris shot a 71 at Malone and shot three rounds under 70 at the Powerade Classic, including a Walsh record 63 the first day. He averaged 70.0 for the fall. Saltmarsh was Walsh's first ever NAIA All-American last season finishing the season with 72.6 average, the lowest in Walsh history.
