Theodoris Earns All-American Honors in Triple Jump

Walsh's George Theodoris (Sr., Ft. Myers, FL/HS) top right garnered NAIA All-American honors in the triple jump at the 53rd annual NAIA Track and Field Championships in Louisville, Kentucky last weekend. Theodoris finished sixth with a leap of 49-01.75 to capture All-American accolades. He also shattered his own Walsh record (47-06.50) in earning All-American honors for the first time.

Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) just missed All-American honors with an eighth place finish (15:14.42) in the 5000m. The top six earn All-American status. Ryan Collins (Jr., Creston, OH/Norwayne) finished 22nd (2:47.21) in the marathon and Rob Strong (Sr., Mineral City, OH/Tusky Valley) 24th (2:52.19). Gary Robinson (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) placed 25th (21-08.25) in the long jump.

Walsh Track Individual Ready For NAIA National Meet

Walsh University will have five representatives at the 53rd annual NAIA Track and Field Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, May 27-29.

Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) qualified in the 5000m, Gary Robinson (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) in the long jump, George Theodoris (Sr., Ft. Myers, FL/HS) in the triple jump and Ryan Collins (Jr., Creston, OH/Norwayne) and Rob Strong (Sr., Mineral City, OH/Tusky Valley) in the marathon.

Cavs Getting Ready For Nationals

Walsh competed at the Jesse Owens Invitational at the Ohio State University in Columbus on Friday and at the Grove City College (PA) Invitational on Saturday. Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) was a provincial qualifier in the 5000m with a 13th place finish in a time of 15:11 at the Owens' meet on Friday. Vincent also won the 1500m (4:04) at Grove City. Gary Robinson (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) qualified for nationals in the long jump with a school-record 23'11" leap, good for first place at Grove City.

Thus far, the following have qualified for nationals. Paul Vincent in the 5000m, Robinson in the long jump, George Theodoris (Sr., Ft. Myers, FL/HS) in the triple jump and Ryan Collins (Jr., Creston, OH/Norwayne) in the marathon. The NAIA's 53rd Annual Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, May 27-29.

Walsh will compete at the Al Campbell Invitational on Saturday at the University of Akron.

Cavs Compete at Jesse Owens and Grove City Invitational

Cavs 5th at AMC Championships

Walsh failed to defend its American Mideast Conference track title, finishing in fifth place. Tiffin University won the event with 196 points. Walsh finished with 81.5. The Cavs had two first place finishes. Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) bottom right captured the 1500m (4:01.54) and George Theodoris (Sr., Ft. Myers, FL/HS) top right won the triple jump. Theodoris set an AMC record with a jump of 48" 1.25". The Cavs are at the Ohio State University Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Cavs 5th at AMC Championships

Walsh's men's track finished fifth at the American Mideast Conference championships held at Roberts Wesleyan College yesterday with 81.5 points. Tiffin University (196.0) won the event. Details will be posted when they become available.

Cavs Garner Two First Place Finishes at Slippery Rock/Theodoris Qualifies For Nationals

Walsh's men's track recorded two first place finishes at the Slippery Rock Invitational last weekend. George Theodoris (Sr., Fort Myers, Fl/HS) was first in the triple jump with a school record and national qualifying leap of 49' 3/4". Theodoris was also a member of the Cavs 4x400 relay team, along with Kirt Lyon (Jr., Tippecanoe, OH/Indian Valley), Steve Mackle (So., Malvern, OH/HS) and Gary Robinson (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS). They finished first in a time of 3:22.58. Robinson was also second in the high jump (6'3") and Nick Aukerman (Jr., East Canton, OH/HS) was second in the steeplechase (9:52.27). Mackle also notched a third place finish in the 800m (1:58.49).

Cavs Set Team Record at Geneva Relay

Walsh's men's track set a team record in the sprint medley relays at Geneva and competed at the Mount Union Invitational last week. This week, Walsh is at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday.

Jeff Ellerhorst (Sr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield), Kirt Lyon (Jr., Tippecanoe, OH/Indiana Valley), George Theodoris (Sr., Fort Myers, FL/HS) and Adam Vincent (So., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) set a new Walsh record in the sprint medley relay (3:52.8). The 4 x 800 relay team, comprised of Gary Robinson (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS), Adam Vincent, Paul Vincent (Sr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) and Chris Zundel (Fr., Madison, OH/HS) finished first and Lyon, Robinson, Theodoris and Zundel finished second in the 4 x 400.

Jeremy Roush (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) posted the Cavs finest finish at Mount Union, with a first place finish in the 400m hurdles (58.24. Alex McCallion (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished third in the 110m hurdles (16.11) and Pete Tsaftarides (Fr., Canton, OH/McKinley) was third in the shot put (45-08.25).

Cavs at Titan Invitational at Westminster

Walsh's men's track recorded three first place finishes at Westminster's Titan Invitational on Saturday. Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) top right finished first in the 1500m (4:06.318), Chris Zundel (Fr., Madison, OH/HS) bottom right in the 800m (2:01.84) and Nick Aukerman (Jr., East Canton, OH/HS) in the 3000m steeple chase. The Cavs are at Mount Union on Saturday.

Steve Mackle (So., Malvern, OH/HS) finished second in the 1500m (4:24.61) and Kirt Lyon (Jr., Tippecanoe, OH/Indian Valley) placed second in the 800m (2:04.40).

Cavs Win at Wooster

Walsh's men's track team posted an impressive victory at the 13-team College of Wooster Invitational on Saturday. The Cavs were paced by Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) top right and George Theodoris (Sr., Fort Myers, FL/HS) bottom right, who each posted first place finishes. Vincent finished first in the 1500m (4:03.28), while Theodoris won the triple jump (45' 1/4"). Vincent also placed second in the 800m (1:58.73), while Theodoris was second in the 400m (50.43) and third in the 200m (22.68).

Numerous Cavaliers posted impressive second place finishes as well. Nick Aukerman (Jr., East Canton, OH/HS) was second in the 3000 steeplechase (10:06.60), Jerome Jackson (Fr., Euclid, OH/HS) in the discus (137'2"), Gary Robinson (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) in the long jump (6' 3/4") and Alex Gray (Jr., Cleveland, OH/Orange) in the javelin (152'4"). Chris Zundel (Fr., Madison, OH/HS) was third in the 800m (1:58.86), Robinson in the high jump (6' 3/4") and Steve Mackle (So., Malvern, OH/HS) in the 1500m (4:04.78).

Cavs at Wooster

Walsh's men's track team will compete at the College of Wooster on Saturday. Field events begin at 11 a.m., with track events slated for a noon start.

Walsh University hosted the first ever Total Fitness Lift & Run 5K last weekend. Participants not only ran but bench pressed their way to the finish. The event allowed competitors to deduct time from their final 5K time depending on how many repetitions of their body weight or of a percentage of their body weight they did. Runners could subtract :30 per repetition off their time. SEE COMPLETE RESULTS

Cavs at Indoor Nationals

Walsh's Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) finished ninth (4:20.20) in the mile at the NAIA Indoor Nationals held in Johnson City, TN, last week. Steve Mackle (So., Malvern, OH/HS) reached the semifinals in the 800m (2:00.27).

Paul Vincent Qualifies For Indoor Nationals

Walsh's Paul Vincent (Jr., Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) has qualified for the NAIA Indoor Nationals. Vincent qualified in the mile (4:19.46), while participating at the Kent State Tune-up on Saturday. The indoor championships will be held in Johnson City, TN, March 4-6. Steve Mackle (So., Malvern, OH/HS) notched a provisional qualifying mark in the 800m (1:57.55), which is also a new Walsh record.
