"Herr, Hicks Named Walsh's Female/Male Athletes of the Year"

Senior outside hitter, Jamie Herr (Sr., Attica, OH/Seneca East), and men's basketball guard Jason Hicks have been named Walsh University's 2005-06 Female and Male Athletes of the Year.

Herr was first-team American Mideast Conference South Division, a NAIA National Player of the Week and was featured in Volleyball Monthly Magazine. The team captain recorded 393 kills (3.4 kpg), 28 service aces, and 426 digs (3.7dpg) during her junior campaign. She also played a majority of the season with two stress fractures in her lower left leg. Herr is the fourth consecutive Walsh University volleyball player to receive the prestigious award. Ruth Kucklick received the award in 2004-05 and Lindsey Wilt received the award in 2003-04 and 2002-03.

Hicks, who transferred from the University of Akron, has played two years for the Cavaliers. He averaged 13.8 points to lead the team in scoring during the regular season and was named first team AMC South Division. Hicks led the team with a .473 mark from three-point and with 166 assists. During Walsh's three-game run at the national tournament, Hicks averaged 16.7 points, shot .441 from the field and handed out 14 assists. He scored 21 points in Walsh's loss to Mid-America Nazarene and dished out nine assists in their second round win against Oregon Tech.
