"Cavs Announce Signings"

Walsh University Head Women's Soccer Coach, Ed Vargo, has announced the signing of three players to NAIA National Letters of Intent to play soccer for the Cavs and continue their education at Walsh. Gynnae Britton (Canton South HS), Chrissy Perna (Marlington HS) and Becky Naumann (Highland HS) will enroll for the fall 2005 semester.

Britton, a sweeper, earned three letters on the boy's soccer team at Canton South. In 2003, she earned first team All-District, All-County and All-Conference honors. Britton was All-County three times.

Perna, a defender, lettered four times at Marlington. She earned first team All-Conference, All-District and All-County honors and was selected the 2003, 2004 Northeastern Buckeye Conference MVP.

Naumann, a midfielder, lettered four times at Medina Highland. She was a second team All-Suburban League selection and was a first team honoree by the Wadsworth Gazette. She also received the 2004 Akron Touchdown Club Award.

"Walsh University Soccer Announces Signings"

Walsh University Women's Soccer Coach, Ed Vargo, has announced the signing of ten new recruits. Walsh is a member of the American Mideast Conference and competes in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics).

Megan Buchholz (Parma, OH/Normandy), Rachel Burcher (Wadsworth, OH/HS), Rachel Ehlert (Parma Heights, OH/Holy Name), Ashley Hunter (Doylestown, OH/Chippewa), Michelle Kenski (Medina, OH/Cloverleaf), Michelle Lucius (Tiffin, OH/Old Fort), Amanda Patrick (Medina, OH/Cloverleaf), Shayna McDermitt (Green, OH/HS), Chelsea Saunders (Hinckley, OH/Highland), Dana Speicher (Stow, OH/Akron Hoban) will enroll at Walsh for the fall 2006 semester.

Buchholz lettered as a defender for John Predina at Normandy High School. Buchholz received the Captains' Award and Coaches Award. She also ran track. She is a Nursing major.

Burcher earned three letters as a goalkeeper for former Walsh men's standout Ron Mendel at Wadsworth High School. She was named first team All-Suburban League and Medina County Gazette and was a Greater Akron All-Star and an Akron Touchdown Club All-Star as a senior, when she recorded six shutouts between the pipes. She finished her career at Wadsworth with 22 shutouts and 294 saves. She was also named All-Suburban League and Medina County Gazette as a junior. She is a Psychology major.

Ehlert earned four soccer and track letters at Holy Name High School. She is a communications major.

Hunter lettered four times at Chippewa High School. She was named to the Wooster Daily Record second team twice and was named honorable mention All-WCAL as a senior. Hunter was second team Tri-County Suburban League as a freshman and honorable mention as a sophomore and senior. She also ran track and was a Cheerleader. She is an Early Childhood Education major.

Kenski earned four letters for Val Baughman as a sweeper at Cloverleaf High School. She was first team All-Suburban League as a senior, scoring five goals and handing out seven assists. She was also GASSCA All-District and a member of the Touchdown Club All-Star team. Kenski is an International Business /Pre-Law major.

Lucius lettered in soccer and track at Old Fort High School. She was named honorable mention MSSL in 2005 and Most Improved in 2002. She is a Physical Therapy major.

Patrick earned three soccer letters for Val Baughman and three softball letters for John Carmigiano at Cloverleaf High School. She is a Physical Therapy major.

McDermitt earned four soccer letters for Mandy Gamble and three track letters for Dan Gourley at Green High School. She earned first team All-Suburban League and All-District Division I as a senior, when she tallied 24 goals and dished out 17 assists. She was also Team Captain and MVP. She is an Accounting major.

Saunders earned four soccer letters at forward and defender for Jaclyn Raub at Highland High School. She was twice named first team All-Suburban League and was twice named honorable mention All-Medina County Gazette. She was on the 2003 and 2004 GASSCA All-District Team, second team All-Akron Beacon Journal and was a 2004 Touchdown Club All-Star. She tallied 31 career goals, including 10 her senior year and 12 her junior year and dished out 26 career assists. She also earned four softball letters. She is a Nursing major.

Speicher earned four soccer and basketball letters at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron. Speicher played midfield and earned the Hustle Award and Spirit Award. She is a Pre-Dental major.

"Swope Named NAIA HM All-America, All-Region, Waltz All-Region"

Walsh University's Abby Swope (Forward, So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) has been selected honorable mention All-America by the NAIA and first team NAIA Region IX. Walsh's Amanda Waltz (Forward, So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) was also selected NAIA Region IX first team.

Swope led the Cavs in assists with eight and was second in scoring with 34 points and in goals with 13. She was also first team All-American Mideast Conference (South Division). Waltz, who earned All-AMC second team South honors, led the team in scoring with 37 points and in goals scored with 16. She also dished out seven assists.

"Cavs Place Five on All-AMC South Team"

Walsh placed five players on the All-American Mideast Conference South team. Walsh, who finished 11-6-2 overall and 5-2-1 in the AMC South, placed one player on the first team, two on the second team and two honorable mention. Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) earned first team honors for the first time. Swope was honorable mention last season. The talented forward led the Cavs in assists with eight and was second in scoring with 34 points and in goals with 13.

Amanda Waltz (Forward, So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) and Stephany Quinn (Midfield, Sr., Mississauga, ONT/St. Joseph) were each named second team. Waltz, who earned second team honors last season, led the team in scoring with 37 points and in goals scored with 16. She dished out seven assists. Quinn, who also earned second team accolades last season, scored five goals, dished out two assists and scored 12 points. Elise Francis (Defender, Sr., Randolph, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Meghan Patton (Midfield, Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) each earned honorable mention. Francis solidified a Walsh defense that allowed only 23 goals in 19 games, while Patton totaled five points on one goal and three assists.

"Cavs Place Three on NAIA Daktronics All-America Scholar Athlete Team"

Walsh has placed three players on the NAIA Daktronics All-America Scholar Athlete team. Julianne Boyne (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Padua Franciscan) top right, Elise Francis (Sr., Randolph, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) middle right and Stephany Quinn (Sr., Mississauga, ONT/St. Joseph) bottom right were all selected to the team. Boyne is an early childhood education major and carries a 3.88 grade point average. Francis is an education major and carries a 3.86 average and Quinn is a pre-med major and carries a 3.92 average. Francis and Quinn were selected to the team last year.

"Cavs (11-6-2, 5-2-1) Fall in Playoff Opener"

Walsh's (11-6-2, 5-2-1) outstanding season came to an end, when they were blanked 1-0 at Tiffin University on Saturday in an American Mideast Conference Qualifying game. The Cavs had closed the regular season with three straight wins, to earn their first post season appearance since 2000.

Walsh won its regular season finale 1-0, in double overtime at Seton Hill on Thursday. Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) (Pictured top right) ended the game with her team leading 16th goal of the season at the 105:00 minute mark of the second overtime. Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) played the entire game in goal for the Cavs and stopped seven shots.

Tiffin then beat the Cavs 1-0 for the second time this season, to end their season on Saturday. The Dragons, who blanked the Cavs on October 18 at Walsh, scored the only goal of the game at the 58:15 mark of the second half. The Dragons out shot the Cavs 13-8 and had seven corner kicks to Walsh's two. Kathy Stuck (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) had nine saves in goal.

Amanda Waltz and Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right) combined to give the Cavs their best one-two scoring punch in team history. Waltz won the scoring title with 37 points on 16 goals and seven assists. Her 16 goals were two shy of Allison Davis' team record of 18 set in 1990. Swope finished with 34 points on 13 goals and a team leading eight assists. The Cavs two keepers, Audra Smail and Kathy Stuck, shared the goal tending duties and did an outstanding job. Smail finished with an 0.92 goals against average in 12 games and Stuck compiled a 1.42 average in eleven games. Walsh's 11 wins were the most since 2000, when they also won 11 games and qualified for the post season.

"Tiffin Ends Cavs Season 1-0 in Playoff"

For the second time this season, Walsh (11-6-2) stayed step-for-step with American Mideast Conference South Division champion Tiffin University (13-4-1), only to lose 1-0. But this time, it was in the AMC Playoffs (Qualifying Tournament. On October 18, the Dragons blanked the Cavs 1-0 in overtime. Today, after a scoreless first half, Tiffin scored the only goal of the game at the 13:15 mark. The Dragons out shot the Cavs 13-8 and had eight corner kicks to Walsh's one. Kathy Stuck (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) had nine saves in goal for for the Cavs.

Walsh, making its first playoff appearance since 2000, finishes with its best record since 1997 (15-7).

"Waltz's Goal Gives Cavs 1-0 Double Overtime Win at Seton Hill"

Walsh (11-5-2) closed the regular season with a 1-0, double overtime win at Seton Hill University today. Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) scored the game winner in the second overtime, on an assist from Nicole Rogers (Sr., Green, OH/HS). Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) played the entire game in goal for the Cavs and stopped eight shots.

Walsh travels to Tiffin University (12-4-1) for an American Mideast Conference Qualifying Playoff game on Saturday (2 pm). The Cavs will make their first post season apperance in four years. "Cavs in Playoffs, Travel to Tifiin on Saturday"

Walsh (10-5-2, 5-2-1) is in the playoffs. The Cavs will make their first post season apperance in four years, when they travel to Tiffin University (12-4-1, 7-1) for the American Mideast Conference Qualifying playoff game on Saturday. Tiffin won the AMC South regular season title, and blanked the Cavs 1-0 on Novemebr 18. The winner advances to the NAIA Region IX Playoffs, which begin on Tuesday.

Walsh closes the regular season today, with a non-league game at Seton Hill (3 pm).

"Cavs (10-5-2, 5-2-1) Inch Closer to Post Season"

Walsh (10-5-2, 5-2-1) inched closer to an American Mideast Conference playoff berth, with their 2-0 win at Urbana University on Saturday. The Cavs have 16 points and are tied with Mount Vernon Nazarene for third place in the AMC South. Malone College is fourth, with 13 points and play at Mount Vernon on Saturday. A Malone loss, or tie with the Cougars would guarantee Walsh its first post season appearance since the 2000 season. The Cavs close the regular season with a non-conference game at Seton Hill on Thursday (3 pm).

Walsh started a tough three-game week with a heart breaking 1-0 loss to Tiffin University in an AMC South game played at Walsh last Tuesday. The Dragons scored the only goal at the 23:32 mark of the first half. The Cavs had only five shots on goal.

Walsh bounced back to edge Geneva College 2-1, in a non-conference game in Beaver Falls, PA on Thursday. Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) snapped a 1-1 tie with the game winning goal, on a breakaway, with an assist from Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) at the 24:39 mark of the second half. Geneva took a 1-0 lead at the 11:40 mark of the first half. Walsh tied the game at the 36:24 mark of the half on a goal by Leya Spence (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison), and assist form Meghan Patton (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name). Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) had nine saves in goal for the Cavs.

Leya Spence gave the Cavs a 1-0 lead at Urbana with a goal at the 8:55 mark of the first half, on an assist from Amanda Waltz. Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) then provided an insurance goal, on an assist from Meghan Patton (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) for the final tally. Walsh out shot Urbana 16-5. Kathy Stuck (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) had six saves for the Cavs.

Amanda Waltz leads Abby Swope by one point for the team scoring lead with 35 points. Waltz has 14 goals and seven assists, while Swope has 13 goals and a team leading eight assists. The Cavs two keepers, Audra Smail and Kathy Stuck, have shared the goal tending duties and done an outstanding job. Smail has a 1.05 goals against average in 11 games and Stuck has a 1.42 average in ten games.

"Cavs Blank Urbana 2-0"

Walsh (10-5-2, 5-2-1) boosted its chances of qualifying for the post season with a 2-0 win at Urbana Unversity today in an American Mideast South game. Leya Spence (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) (Pictured bottom right), gave the Cavs a 1-0 lead at the 8:55 mark of the first half, on an assist from Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) (Pictured top right) . Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) then provided an insurance goal, on an assist from Meghan Patton (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) for the final tally. Walsh out shot Urbana 16-5. Kathy Stuck (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) had six saves for the Cavs.

Walsh has one regular season game remaining, at Seton Hill University, on Thursday (3 pm). The AMC playoffs begin next Saturday.

"Cavs Edge Geneva 2-1"

Walsh (9-5-2) edged Geneva College 2-1, in a non-conference game in Beaver Falls, PA tonight. Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) (Pictured top right) snapped a 1-1 tie with the game winning goal, on a breakaway, on an assist from Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) at the 24:39 mark of the second half. For Waltz, it was her team leading 14th goal of the season. She also leads the team in scoring with 34 points. Geneva took a 1-0 lead at the 11:40 mark of the first half. Walsh tied the game at the 36:24 mark of the half, on a goal by Leya Spence (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) (Pictured bottom right), on an assist form Meghan Patton (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name). Walsh is at Urbana on Saturday for an AMC South game. The Cavs can clinch a playoff spot with a win.

"Cavs Fall 1-0 to Tiffin"

Walsh (8-5-2, 4-2-1) lost a heartbreaker, 1-0, to Tiffin University (11-3-1, 6-0) in an American Mideast Conference game played today at Walsh. The Dragons scored the games only goal in the first half, at the 23:32 mark. The Cavs had only five shots on goal. Walsh will try to clinch an AMC playoff berth on Saturday at Urbana (1 pm). They play a non-conference game at Geneva on Thursday night (7 pm).

"Cavs (8-4-2, 4-1-1) Win Twice/Tied For Second in AMC South"

Walsh (8-4-2, 4-1-1) won twice last week and are one win away from clinching an American Mideast Conference playoff berth, with two AMC matches left. Walsh crept closer to the post season, with a 2-1 win at Cedarville University on Saturday. Earlier in the week, they blanked Myers University 10-0. This week, the Cavs host Tiffin University in an AMC match on Tuesday (3 pm), play a non-conference match at Geneva College on Thursday (7 pm) and play at Urbana University in an AMC contest on Saturday (1 pm). A Cavalier win against either Tiffin or Urbana will put the Cavs in the post season.

Walsh put forth its most explosive offensive performance of the season, in a 10-0 win over visiting Myers University. The win snapped a string of three matches without a win for the Cavs. Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) scored two of her four goals in the first half, as the Cavs built a 5-0 halftime lead. Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) scored her 12th goal of the season and dished out two assists. Stephany Quinn (Sr., Mississauga, ONT/St. Joseph) added two goals and an assist and Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) had a goal and two assists. Freshman Abbie Sullivan (North Canton, OH/GlenOak) scored her first collegiate goal and Leya Spence (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) dished out two assists. Nicole Rogers (Sr., Green, OH/HS) also tallied for the Cavs. Walsh out shot Myers 26-1.

Waltz gave the Cavs a 1-0 lead at the 20-minute mark of the first half on an assist from Abby Swope. Cedarville tied the game at the 28-minute mark, and the first half ended in a 1-1 tie. Waltz then scored the game winner at the seven-minute mark of the second period on an assist from Chrissy Perna. Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) had three saves in goal for the Cavs.

Abby Swope and Amanda Waltz are tied for the team in scoring with 32 points. Swope has 12 goals and a team leading eight assists, while Waltz has a team leading 13 goals and six assists. Audra Smail has an 1.13 goals against average in nine games and Kathy Stuck has a 1.62 average in nine games.

Walsh and AMC South leader Tiffin (10-3-1, 5-0) tangle in the first of the Cavs' three games this week. Tiffin leads the all-time series 16-4, with one tie. The Cavs last win over the Dragons came in 1997. Walsh plays under the lights at Geneva (5-7-2) on Thursday. The Cavs lead the series 11-6, with one tie. Walsh and Urbana (7-9, 2-4) meet for the seventh time, all-time, with the series tied 3-3.

"Waltz Scores Twice, Cavs Win 2-1 at Cedarville"

Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) (Pictured top right) scored both goals in Walsh's 2-1, American Mideast Conference South Division win at Cedarville University tonight. The win was the second straight for the Cavs and improves their record to 8-4-2 overall and to 4-1-1 in the AMC South. Waltz gave the Cavs a 1-0 lead at the 20-minute mark of the first half on an assist from Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS). Cedarville tied the game at the 28-minute mark and the first half ended in a 1-1 tie. Waltz then scored the game winner at the seven minute mark of the second period on an assist from freshman Chrissy Perna (Alliance, OH/Marlington). Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) had three saves in goal for the Cavs.

With Waltz's two goals, she has taken over the team lead with 13. She is also tied for the team lead in points with Swope at 32. Walsh is home on Tuesday (3 pm), for an AMC South game against Tiffin University.

"Cavs Blank Myers University 10-0"

Walsh (7-4-2) put on its most explosive offensive performance of the season, in a 10-0 win over visiting Myers University yesterday. The win snapped a string of three matches without a win for the Cavs, who will next meet Cedarville University under the lights on the road on Saturday (7 pm) in an American Mideast Conference South match..

Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) (Pictured top right) scored two of her four goals in the first half, as the Cavs built a 5-0 halftime lead. Waltz is second in scoring with 11 goals and 28 points. Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season and dished out two assists. She also leads the team with 31 points. Stephany Quinn (Sr., Mississauga, ONT/St. Joseph) added two goals and an assist and Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) had a goal and two assists. "Cavs (6-4-2, 3-1-1) Suffer First AMC South Loss, Tie With Malone"

Walsh (6-4-2, 3-1-1) lost and tied last week in two American Mideast Conference South games. Walsh and cross-town rival Malone College tied 3-3 in double overtime last Tuesday at Malone. The Cavs then dropped their first AMC South game, when they were defeated 3-1 at home by Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday. This Tuesday, the Cavs host Myers University (3:30 pm) in a non-league game, then travel to Cedarville University for a night game (7 pm) on Saturday.

Walsh and Malone played to a 3-3 double overtime tie at Malone. Walsh scored all of their goals in the first half and led 3-1 at the break. Malone scored four minutes into the second half, then tied the game the late in the second half. Walsh hit the cross bar with less than one minute to play in regulation, and Malone hit the bar in the final minutes of the second overtime. After Malone had taken a 1-0 lead, Walsh's Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) tied the game on an assist from Stephany Quinn (Sr., Mississauga, ONT/St. Joseph) at the 12:44 mark of the first half. Walsh took a 2-1 lead at the 22:13 mark, when Quinn scored on an assist from Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover). Walsh's third goal came with just 30 seconds to play in the first half, when Swope tallied again, this time on an assist from Waltz.

Walsh fell for the first time in AMC South play, 3-1 to Mount Vernon Nazarene. MVNU's Kristy Brandoline scored at the 7:16 mark of the first half to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Walsh's Amanda Waltz then tied the game at 1-1 in the second half, at the 18:49 mark, with her seventh goal of the season on an assist from Abby Swope. The Cougars scored what proved to be the winning goal at the 31:43 mark, then Brandoline gave them an insurance goal at the 40:36 mark. MVNU out shot the Cavs 9-8.

Abby Swope leads the Cavs in scoring with eleven goals and 27 points. Amanda Waltz is second with seven goals and a team leading six assists for 20 points and Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) is next with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) has a 1.15 goals against average in eight games and Kathy Stuck has a 1.88 average in eight games.

Walsh and Myers (0-5) are meeting for the first time. Myers is a first-year program and will join the AMC next year. Walsh and Cedarville (4-7-1, 1-2-1) play under the lights in an AMC South battle. Cedarville leads the series 6-0, there have been two ties.

Walsh (6-4-2), 3-1-1) lost its first American Mideast Conference South game today, losing 3-1 to Mount Vernon Nazarene University (8-3-1, 3-0-1). The win kept the Cougars unbeaten in AMC play. "Cavs and Malone Play to 3-3, Double Overtime Tie"

Walsh (6-3-2, 3-0-1) and Malone (4-7-1, 1-2-1) played to a 3-3 double overtime tie in an American Mideast Conference South battle at Malone today. "Cavs (6-3-1, 3-0) Start 3-0 in AMC South"

Walsh (6-3-1, 3-0) continued its fine start in American Mideast Conference South play by defeating Ohio Dominican University 3-1 last week. The Cavs are tied with Tiffin University (3-0) for first place and one-half game ahead of Mount Vernon Nazarene (2-0). The Cavs only loss last week was a 1-0 overtime defeat at Roberts Wesleyan. This week the Cavs renew their cross-town rivalry with Malone College and play host to Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday.

Walsh remained unbeaten in conference play after downing Ohio Dominican University 3-1 last Tuesday. The win was the third straight for Walsh.. Walsh led 2-1 at the half on goals from Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) and Leya Spence (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison). Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) assisted on Swope's tally and Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) on the Spence goal. Stephany Quinn (Sr., Mississsauga, ONT/St. Joseph) closed the scoring on a penalty kick in the second half. Kathy Stuck (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) played the entire 90 minutes and stopped five shots. Roberts Wesleyan snapped Walsh's mini win streak, 1-0 in overtime on Saturday. Wesleyan scored the games only tally five minutes into the first overtime.

Abby Swope leads the Cavs in scoring with nine goals and four assists for 22 points. Amanda Waltz is second with six goals and four assists for 16 points and Chrissy Perna is next with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) has an 0.79 goals against average in six games and Kathy Stuck has a 1.73 average in seven games.

Walsh and Malone (4-7, 1-2) meet for the tenth time, all-time, on Wednesday at Malone at 4 pm. The game was
changed from its original 7 pm start. Malone leads the all-time series 5-4 and won 2-1 last season. Walsh and Mount Vernon Nazarene (8-3, 2-0) meet for the sixth time, with the Cougars holding a 3-2 advantage. Mount Vernon won 2-1 last season.

"Cavs Lose Heartbreaker, 1-0, in OT at Roberts Wesleyan"

Walsh (6-3) lost a heartbreaker 1-0 in overtime at Roberts Wesleyan today. Wesleyan scored the games only tally five minutes into the first overtime. Walsh is at Malone College on Wednesday, at 4 pm, for an American Mideast Conference South game.

"Cavs Remain Unbeaten in AMC"

Walsh (6-2-1, 3-0) remained unbeaten in the South Division of the American Mideast Conference, after downing Ohio Dominican University 3-1 today. The Cavs have won their last three games. Walsh led 2-1 at the half on goals from Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right) and Leya Spence (Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) (Pictured top right). Cavs (5-2-1, 2-0) Win Twice, Unbeaten in AMC

After dropping back-to-back games the previous week, Walsh returned to their winning ways with home wins over Notre Dame (3-0) and Shawnee State University (9-0). This week, the Cavs host Ohio Dominican University (6-3, 2-0) in an American Mideast Conference South game on Tuesday (4 pm), then travel to Roberts Wesleyan University (3-4) in Rochester, NY for an AMC crossover game on Saturday (12:30 pm).

Walsh snapped their two-game losing streak, with a 4-0 win over Notre Dame College on Tuesday in a non-conference game. Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) (Pictured top right) scored twice in the first half to give the Cavs a 2-0 lead. Abby Swope (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right) then tallied the Cavs' third goal to give Walsh a 3-0 halftime lead. Chrissy Perna (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) closed the scoring with the only goal of the second half, on an assist from Waltz. Kathy Stuck (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) played the entire 90 minutes in goal and recorded her second shutout. Walsh out shot the Blue Falcons 25-4. Walsh finished the week with a 9-0 thrashing of Shawnee State in an AMC South match-up on Saturday. Six different Cavaliers scored, led by Swope and Waltz. Swope had the "Hat Trick", with two goals in the first half and one in the second half. She scored the games first goal just 2:50 into the contest on an assist form Meghan Patton (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name). Patton also had a goal on a break-away and Swope also had an assist. Waltz assisted on one of Swope's goals and also scored twice. The Cavs led 6-0 at the half.

Abby Swope leads the Cavs in scoring with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Amanda Waltz is second with six goals and three assists for 15 points and Chrissy Perna is next with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Audra Smail (So., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) has an 0.75 goals against average in five games and Kathy Stuck has a 1.90 average in six games.

Walsh and Ohio Dominican are meeting for the sixth time, with the Panthers holding a 3-2 series lead. Walsh won 4-2 last year. The Cavs and Roberts Wesleyan will tangle for the fifth time. Walsh trails in the series 2-1. There has been one tie.

"Cavs Rout Urbana 9-0"

Walsh (5-2-1, 2-0) improved to 2-0 in the South Division of the American Mideast Conference, after routing visiting Shawnee State University 9-0 today. Six different Cavaliers scored, led by Abby Swope (5-7, So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) and Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover). "Cavs Snap Skid, Blank Notre Dame 4-0, Waltz's Scores Twice"

"Cavs (3-2-1, 1-0) Drop Two of Three Games"

Walsh dropped back-to-back games over the weekend, in suffering its first losses of the year. After opening the week with a 3-0 win at Muskingum, the Cavs fell 5-0 at Indiana Wesleyan and 2-0 at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) This week the Cavs have home matches with Notre Dame College (2-4) on Thursday (3 pm) and with Shawnee State (2-5, 0-2) on Saturday (1 pm).

Walsh defeated Muskingum College 3-0 on Tuesday. Chrissy Perna (5-8, Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) (Pictured top right) gave the Cavaliers a 1-0 at the 8:42 mark of the first half on an assist by Abby Swope (5-7, So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right). The Cavs added another first half goal at the 17:53 mark, as Swope scored on an assist from Hailey Rogers (Fr., Green, OH/HS). Walsh then added an insurance goal in the second half at the 35:04 mark, when Rogers scored on an assist from Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover). Kathy Stuck (5-7, So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) recorded the shutout in goal, stopping three shots.

Walsh's offense, which had scored 11 goals in the first four games, was shutdown twice in Indiana. NAIA 22nd ranked Indiana Wesleyan blanked Walsh 5-0 on Friday. Wesleyan scored just 2:28 into the game and led 1-0 at the half. Saint Francis struck early (12:04) in the first half on Saturday and held on for the 2-0 win.

Abby Swope leads the Cavs in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. Chrissy Perna is next with four goals and two assists for 10 points.

"Cavs Stay Unbeaten, Blank Muskingum 3-0"

Walsh remained unbeaten at 3-0-1, after blanking Muskingum College 3-0 on the road today. Chrissy Perna (5-8, Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) gave the Cavaleirs the lead (1-0) at the 8:42 mark of the first half on an assist by Abby Swope (5-7, So., Wadsworth, OH/HS). The Cavs added another first half goal at the 17:53 mark, as Swope scored on an assist from Hailey Rogers (Fr., Green, OH/HS). The Cavs added an insurance goal in the second half at the 35:04 mark, when Rogers scored on an assist from Amanda Waltz (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover). Kathy Stuck (5-7, So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) recorded the shutout in goal, stopping three shots. Walsh out shot Muskingum 14-3 and led in corner kicks 4-1.

The Cavs are on the road two more times this week. They play at Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday night (7 pm) and at the University St. Francis (IN) on Saturday (4:30 pm).

"Cavs (2-0-1, 1-0) Win AMC South Opener"

Walsh opened American Mideast Conference South Division play with a 4-2 win at the University of Rio Grande on Saturday. The unbeaten Cavs hit the road three times this week. Walsh plays at Muskingum College on Wednesday (4 pm), at Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday night (7 pm) and at St. Francis (IN) on Saturday (4:30 pm).

Walsh rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit to defeat the University of Rio Grande in the AMC South Division opener for both teams. Chrissy Perna (5-8, Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) scored the first of her two goals in the first half, at the 18:12 mark on an assist from Abby Swope (5-7, So., Wadsworth, OH/HS). Perna then knotted the game at 2-2 on an assist from Leya Spence (5-6, Fr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) at the 37:09 mark of the second half. Amanda Waltz (5-2, So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) then gave the Cavs the lead for good at 3-2 on an assist from Swope at the 13:40, then added an insurance goal for the final tally. Walsh out shot the Redwomen 32-3, in dropping Rio to 1-2 overall and to 0-1 in the AMC South. Kathy Stuck (5-7, So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) was in net in the first half for the Cavs and Audra Smail (5-5, So., Navarre, OH/Canton Central Catholic) in the final 45 minutes.

Walsh opens its 18th season with a win and a tie this past weekend. The Cavs and Saint Vincent College played to a 2-2 overtime tie on Friday. Cavs Open 18th Season at Home

Walsh opens its 18th season at home this weekend. The Cavs have homes matches on Friday at 2 pm against Saint Vincent College and on Saturday at 12 pm against Siena Heights University.

Head Coach Ed Vargo (36-35-3) returns for his fifth season. Walsh finished 10-7-1 last season and 2-4-1 in the South Division of the American Mideast Conference. Vargo brings back 12 letter winners and five seniors from last season. Walsh and Saint Vincent are meeting for the ninth time, with Walsh holding an 8-1 advantage. The Cavs and Siena Heights are meeting for the ninth time. Walsh trails in the series 1-8.
