"Cady, Lance Named First Team All-AMC South"

Number one singles player Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured top right)and her doubles partner, Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) (Pictured bottom right) have been selected first team All-American Mideast Conference South Division. Cady was selected first team singles as well, after fashioning a 17-5 record in the top spot. She then teamed with Lance at first doubles to finish 8-7.

Walsh won the NAIA Region IX Tournament and advanced to the NAIA Nationals, where they were downed by Point Loma Nazarene.

"NRCCUA and NAIA Announce First Champions of Character Scholarship Winners/Lauren Akkerman from Ashland, Ohio Will Play for Cavs"

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Research Center for College and University Admissions (NRCCUA) are pleased to announce five Champions of Character scholarship winners for 2005.

This is the first year that NRCCUA has partnered with the NAIA to provide Champions of Character scholarships to graduating high school seniors who will be attending NAIA institutions this fall. Award winners will each receive a $1,000 scholarship toward their education.

Scholarship winners were selected based upon how well they model the NAIA?s Champions of Character five core values in competition and in their daily lives. These core values are respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

Listed below are this year's NAIA-NRCCUA Champions of Character Scholarship Winners:

Lauren Akkerman from Ashland, Ohio. Lauren is a graduate of Ashland High School and will attend Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio and play intercollegiate tennis.
Aric Cherry from Meriden, Kan. Aric is a graduate of Jefferson West High School and will attend Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.
Katie Dugan from Kansas City, Mo. Katie is a graduate of Oak Park High School and will attend Avila University in Kansas City, Mo.
Melissa Gardner from Lee?s Summit, Mo. Melissa is a graduate of Lee?s Summit North High School and will attend Park University in Parkville, Mo.
Jenna Plewes from Zeeland, Mich. Jenna is a graduate of Zeeland East High School and will attend Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Mich.

"We believe this is a great way to show incoming students to NAIA member institutions that we value them for the character they have already modeled," said Rob Miller, NAIA Director of Champions of Character Initiatives and the chair of the selection committee. "It?s also a credit to our members that they are recruiting students that set such high standards."

"This scholarship honor is both a tribute and a reward to the seniors for how they have lived their lives and the character values they possess," said Larry Erenberger, NRCCUA Vice President for National Projects. "Dana Wobser Named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete"

Walsh University senior Dana Wobser (Sandusky, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) has been named to the Daktronics-NAIA Women's Scholar-Athlete Team. Wobser, who recorded a 3.14 spring grade point average, has a 3.55 overall GPA. She is an accounting/finance major and one of 81 athletes selected to the team. This past spring, Dana played mostly fourth singles and finished with a 10-8 record. Her overall singles record was 12-8. In doubles, she played second doubles and finished with a mark of 11-11.

"Point Loma Blanks Cavs 9-0"

After dropping all three doubles matches, Walsh then lost all six singles matches and were eliminated 9-0 by Point Loma Nazarene University at the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama today. The loss ends the Cavs season at 11-11 and ends a six-match win streak.

Point Loma Nazarene University leads Walsh 3-0, after sweeping the doubles action at the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama today. Singles play is scheduled to being shortly.

"Cavs Meet Point Loma in NAIA Tournament Opener"

Walsh (11-10) meets Point Loma Nazarene (CA) (16-7) in their first match, at the single elimination NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama next week. The two teams meet on Monday, May 16. The time has not been set. The winner of the match advances to the second round, and meets 8th seeded Freed Hardman (TN) (23-2) on Tuesday. The Cavs take a six-match win streak to the tournament. Walsh qualified by winning the NAIA Region IX Tournament.

Number one singles player Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured top right) is 17-4, and is on an 11-match win streak. Megan Navarre (Fr., Indianapolis, IN/Centre Grove) is 2-8 at number two singles and is 5-15 overall. Kaylyn Moyer (Jr., Ravenna, OH/HS) is 6-4 at third singles and is 9-12 overall. "Cavs Down Ohio Dominican to Win NAIA Region IX/X Crown"

The Walsh University Cavaliers are headed back to the NAIA Championships for the first time since 2001, by vitrue of defeating Ohio Dominican University 7-2 in the NAIA Region IX/X title match, played at Cedarville University today. The win was sweet for the Cavs, who started the season 2-9 and lost 4-5 to Ohio Dominican on April 2.

The Cavs, now 11-10, will take a six-match win streak into the national tournament, which begins May 16-20 in Mobile, Alabama.

"Cavs Upset Seton Hill to Advance to Region Title Match"

Walsh (10-10) has advanced to the NAIA Region IX/X title match, after downing Seton Hill College (10-6) 6-3 today. The Cavs play the winner of the Ohio Dominican/Saint Vincent match, for the regional championship at 1 pm on Friday, at Cedarville. The winner advances to the 25th annual NAIA National Championships, May 16-20 in Mobile, Alabama.

The win over Seton Hill was the fifth straight for the Cavs, and evened their record for the first time since 1-1. A win on Friday, would earn the Cavs their first national appearance since 2001.

"Cavs Edge Tiffin, 5-4, to Advance"

Walsh (9-10) edged Tiffin University, 5-4 yesterday, to advance to the semifinals of the NAIA Region IX/X Championships, being held at Cedarville University. The Cavs meet Seton Hill University (10-5) at 1 pm today, for the right to play in Friday's championship match at 1 pm. The winner of the tournament advances to the 25th annual NAIA Championships in Mobile, Alabama, May 16-20.

"Cavs (8-10, 4-1) Primed For NAIA Region IX Tournament"

Walsh (8-10, 4-1) is primed and ready for the NAIA Region IX Tournament at Cedarville University, which begins on Wednesday. Walsh and Tiffin University willplay on Wednesday at 1 pm. The winner meets Seton Hill College on Thursday at 1 pm. Walsh defeated Tiffin 7-2 in the regular season. The Cavs and Seton Hill did not meet. Walsh has won six of its last seven matches and won their only match at Cedarville (7-2) last week.

"Cavs Bounce Cedarville 7-2/Qualify for NAIA Region IX Tournament"

Walsh (8-10, 4-1 AM S) defeated Cedarville University 7-2 today in an American Mideast Conference South match at Cedarville. The win qualfies the Cavs for the NAIA Region IX Championships, being held at Cedarville, next Tuesday through Saturday. When and who the Cavs play has yet to be determined. The Cavs will carry a three-match win streak into the tournament. They have also won six of their last seven matches.

"Cavs Peaking at Right Time"

After playing an extremely tough schedule early in the season, in which the Cavs started the season 2-9, they have rebounded and stand 7-10 overall and 3-1 in the American Mideast Conference. Last week, the Cavs bounced Malone College and Tiffin University by identical 7-2 scores. This week, the Cavs host Case Western Reserve University on Wednesday (4 pm) and play at Cedarville University on Friday (3:30 pm).

Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) won twice and is 13-4. Cady is on a seven-match win streak. Megan Navarre (Fr., Indianapolis, IN/Centre Grove) lost twice at number two singles and is 5-11. Kaylyn Moyer (Jr., Ravenna, OH/HS) won twice at third singles and is 7-10. "Cavs Win Again, 7-2 Over Tiffin"

Walsh won its second straight match and for the fourth time in the last five matches, by defeating Tiffin University 7-2 in an American Mideast Conference match, played at Walsh yesterday. Walsh is home to Case Western Reserve University on Wednesday at 4 pm and at Cedarville University on Friday.

"Cavs Net Pioneers 7-2"

Walsh improved to 6-10 overall and to 2-1 in the American Mideast Conference, after defeating Malone College 7-2 yesterday. The Cavs won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. Kristen Cady, the number one singles player, improved to 13-4 with a defining win of 6-0, 6-0 over Malone's, Jamie Young. Kaylyn Moyer, Dana Wobser, Katie Lance, and Ingrid Brainard also defeated their Pioneer opponents. The duos of Cady and Lance defeated Malone's first doubles pair 8-3, to improve to 5-3 on the season. Moyer and Wobser also won in doubles with a score of 8-1. The Cavs play host to Tiffin University in an AMC match on Saturday.

"Wittenberg Breaks Cavs Three-Match Win Streak"

Walsh's (5-10) modest three-match win streak came to an end, when they were defeated 6-3 at Wittenberg University yesterday. Walsh won three singles matches, but lost all three doubles. Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured top right), won 6-4, 6-4 and is 11-4 on the season. Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) won 3-6, 6-3, (10-4 tie breaker) at fifth singles and is 8-8 and Ingrid Brainard won 6-2, 6-0 at number six singles and is 2-0. The Cavs host Malone College in an AMC match on Thursday and Tiffin University in another AMC match on Saturday.

"Cavs (5-9, 1-1) Snap Skid With Three Straight Wins"

Walsh's (5-9, 1-1) snapped a six-match losing streak, with wins over the College of Wooster, Saint Vincent College and Shawnee State University. The Shawnee State win evened the Cavs AMC record at 1-1. This week, the Cavs are at Wittenberg University on Monday, host Malone College in an AMC match on Thursday and Tiffin University in another AMC match on Saturday.

Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak), won all three singles matches and is 10-4 on the season. She has won four straight matches. Kaylyn Moyer (Jr., Ravenna, OH/HS) lost two out of three matches and is 4-10 combined at second and third singles. Megan Navarre (Fr., Indianapolis, IN/Centre Grove) won twice at second singles and is 2-1, with a combined singles mark of 5-8. Dana Wobser (Sr., Sandusky, OH/HS) is 5-6, Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) is 7-8, Kelly Dehn (Fr., Powell, OH/Olentangy) is 3-4 and Nicole Hagy (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) is 4-5. Ingrid Brainard (So., Madison, OH/HS) make her Walsh debut against Shawnee State and won at sixth singles. Cady and Lance are 4-2 at first doubles, with four straight wins. "Cavs Beat Shawnee State 8-1"

Walsh improved to 5-9 overall and to 2-1 in the American Mideast Conference, after dowing Shanwee State University 2-1 in Portsmouth, Ohio yesterday. The Cavs won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches. The Cavs are at Wittennerg University on Monday and home to Malone College on Thursday, both matches start at 3 pm.

"Cavs Halt Skid With 5-4 Win Over Wooster"

"Cavs (2-9, 0-1) Skid Reaches Six"

Walsh's (2-9, 0-1) losing streak is at six, after the Cavs lost their American Mideast Conference opener, 4-5 at Ohio Dominican University on Saturday. It was the Cavs only match last week. This week, Walsh is home to the College of Wooster on Tuesday, home to Saint Vincent College on Thursday and at Shawnee State University, for an AMC match on Saturday.

"Cavs Fall 5-4 at Ashland"

Walsh (2-6) lost a tough match at Ashland University yesterday, falling 5-4 to the Eagles. It was the Cavs second straight 5-4 loss. They lost by the same score at Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday. The Cavs won three singles and one doubles match. Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak), won 6-3, 6-1 and improved to 6-2 on the season. Moyer and Dana Wobser (Sr., Sandusky, OH/HS) won 8-6 at second doubles and stand 3-5.

The Cavs are in Michigan, to meet Grand Valley State on Thursday and Aquinas College on Friday.

"Cavs (2-5)/Cady 5-2 at First Singles"

Walsh (2-5) lost its second straight match, falling 4-5 at Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday. The Cavs have a three-match week, starting at Ashland University on Tuesday. The Cavs are in Michigan, to meet Grand Valley State on Thursday and Aquinas College on Friday.

Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak), improved to 5-2 on the season. Cady bounced Oberlin's Andrea Issac, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday. Dana Wobser (Sr., Sandusky, OH/HS) won at fourth singles, Kelly Dehn (Fr., Powell, OH/Olentangy) at fifth singles and Nicole Hagy (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) at sixth singles. Wobser is 3-2 on the season and Dehn is 4-2.

"Cavs Lose 4-5 at Baldwin-Wallace"

Despite winning four singles matches, Walsh (2-5) fell 4-5 at Baldwin-Wallace College's Red Center today. Doubles play doomed the Cavs, as they dropped all three matches. Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (So., North Canton, OH/GlenOak), top right won 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. Dana Wobser (Sr., Sandusky, OH/HS) won 6-4, 6-4 at fourth singles, Kelly Dehn (Fr., Powell, OH/Olentangy) won 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 at fifth singles and Nicole Hagy (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) won 7-6, 6-2 at number six singles.

The Cavs are at Ashland University on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.

"Cavs Lose 6-3 to Catawba"

Walsh fell to 1-3 on the season, after losing 6-3 to Catawba College today. Kristen Cady (So., North Canton, OH/GlenOak) top right won at first singles, 6-2, 6-2, to improve to 3-1 on the season. Kelly Dehn (Fr., Powell, OH/Olentangy) won at sixth singles 6-4, 6-3 and Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Dehn won 8-5 at third doubles. The Cavs play East Stroudsburg at 12 pm on Tuesday.

"Cavs Blank West VA State, Fall to Ithaca"

Walsh (1-2) split matches over the weekend. The Cavs shutout West Virginia State 9-0, but lost Ithaca College 5-4. The Cavs meet Catawba College this morning at 8 am. Everyone was a winner in the WVA State match. Top singles player, Kristen Cady (So., North Canton, OH/GlenOak) top right continued her fine play, winning both matches. Cady won 6-0, 6-0 at WVA State and 6-2, 6-3 at Ithaca. Kaylyn Moyer (Jr., Ravenna, OH/HS) won at WVA State, but was defeated 2-6, 1-6 at Ithaca. Megan Navarre (Fr., Indianpolis, IN/Center Grove) won twice at third singles. Cady and Navarre won twice at number one doubles. Dana Wobser (Sr., Sandusky, OH/HS) won tiwce at fourth singles and Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) split matches at fifth singles. Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) won at sixth singles at WVA State, but Nicole Hagy (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) lost at sixth singles at Ithaca. Wobser and Moyer won at second doubles against WVA State, but lost to Ithaca. Hagy and Lance won at third doubles against WVA State, but Dehn and Lance lost to Ithaca.

"Cavs Drop Opener, 7-0 to Akron"

Walsh (0-1) fell 7-0 in their season opener at the University of Akron (5-5) today. For the NCAA Divsion One Zips, it was their 10th match of the season. The Cavs were competitive in defeat. Kristen Cady (So., North Canton, OH/GlenOak) fell 6-2, 6-0 at first singles. Kaylyn Moyer (Jr., Ravenna, OH/HS) lost 6-2, 6-1 at second singles. Megan Navarre (Fr., Indianpolis, IN/Center Grove) lost 6-3, 6-1 at third singles. Katie Lance (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) lost 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. Nicole Hagy (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) fell 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles and Kelly Dehn (Fr., Powell, OH/Olentangy) lost 6-0, 6-4 at sixth singles.

Cady and Navarre lost 9-7 at first doubles. Moyer and Dana Wobser (Sr., Sandusky, OH/HS) were defeated 8-6 at second doubles and Dehn and Lance lost 8-3 at third doubles.

"Cavs Open Season at Akron"

Walsh opens the 2005 season at the University of Akron on Tuesday (12 pm). Head Coach Sherry Bossart returns five letter winners from 2004. The Cavs finished 14-5 overall and 4-1 in the American Mideast Conference.

"Walsh Signs Top Recruits From GlenOak and North Canton Hoover"

Walsh women's tennis coach, Sherry Bossart has announced the signing of two of the area's top scholastic singles players. Lindsey Cady (GlenOak HS) and Jenamarie Ianni (North Canton Hoover) have signed NAIA National Letters of Intent to continue their education at Walsh University and play intercollegiate tennis for the Cavaliers. They will enroll in the fall of 2005.

Cady will join sister, Kristen, who is a sophomore on the team. Her older sister, Melissa, lettered four times for the Cavs and completed her collegiate career last spring. Cady lettered four years for the Golden Eagles. She played first doubles as a freshman and sophomore and fashioned an 18-4 mark her first year and 22-5 mark her second year. Cady played both first and second singles as junior and finished with a 12-10 mark. As a senior, Cady played strictly at number one singles and finished the year 19-7. Cady was a two-time district qualifier, an O.T.C.A state runner-up and earned first team All-Federal League honors three times. Lindsey is the daughter of Stephanie and Craig Cady.

Ianni lettered four years for the Vikings and earned second team All-Ohio accolades. Ianni played first doubles as a freshman and finished with a 14-9 mark. She played second singles as a sophomore (18-5) and first and second singles as a junior (18-5). Ianni played number one singles her final year and fashioned a 29-9 mark and reached the quarterfinals at the state tournament. Ianni is a former sectional singles champion, first team All-Federal League selection, Team MVP and O.T.C.A. Golden Racquet Award Winner. She captained the Vikings as senior and led them to a final four appearance and school record 20 wins. Ianni will major in education. She is the daughter of Barbara and Anthony Ianni Jr.
