"Kendra Shoup Named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete"

Walsh second baseman Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) has been named to the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete team. Shoup, a psychology major, is making her first appearance on the team. Shoup recorded a 3.94 grade point average this past spring and has a 3.95 overall. She was also named second team on the American Mideast Conference South Division team and is also an AMC Scholar-Athlete. Shoup led the Cavs with 46 hits, 18 runs, 13 stolen bases, seven doubles and tied for the RBI lead with 12.

"Rebecca Adkison First Team All-AMC South"

Walsh University left-fielder, Rebecca Adkison (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Archbishop Hoban) (Pictured top right) was the only Cavalier selected to the American Mideast Conference Softball first team. Overall, the Cavs placed five players on the team, with three on the second team and one honorable mention.

Adkison put together her finest season in a Walsh uniform, hitting .282 with 29 hits, six doubles, a triple and tying for the team lead with 12 RBI.

Pitcher Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS), second baseman Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) and designated player Jamie Notch (So., Suffield, OH/Field) were named second team and outfielder Kelly Sasavicz (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) was named honorable mention.

Bauer, who was also second team All-AMC last year, finished 8-10, but with a 1.31 ERA. The work-horse of the Walsh staff, Bauer worked 123 innings and walked only five batters, while fanning 66. Bauer is third in career victories with 47. Shoup led the Cavs in hitting with a .362 average. A first team selection as a freshman and honorable mention last season, Shoup led the Cavs with 46 hits, 18 runs, 13 stolen bases, seven doubles and tied for the RBI lead with 12. Notch, a Cleveland State University transfer, was second on the team in hitting with a .311 average. Notch had three doubles and 10 RBI. Sasavicz, a transfer from Wittenberg University, hit .298 with three doubles and seven RBI.

Walsh finished the 20-21 and 3-11 in the AMC South Division.

"Cavs Lose Two to Rio Grande"

Walsh (20-21, 3-11) closed the season with a doubleheader loss, at home, to the University of Rio Grande today. Rio won game one 4-3 and game two 2-0. Rio scored two runs in the fourth to erase a 3-2 Walsh lead to win the opener. Rebecca Adkison (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Archbishop Hoban) doubled in two runs for the Cavs. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) took the loss in the nightcap, as Rio scored single runs in the sixth and seventh inning. Bauer closes the season 8-9.

The Cavs lost their last four games and seven of their last eight.

"Cavs/Rio Grande Moved to Sunday"

Walsh's AMC South doubleheader, at home, with the University of Rio Grande has been moved to Sunday, May 1 at 2 pm. The games were originally slated for today. It will be Senior Day for Walsh and their final two home games. The Cavs will honor Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) and Natalie Voytek (Sr., Cortland, OH/Poland) in pregame ceremonies.

"Cavs Lose Pair at Shawnee State"

Walsh (20-19, 3-9) lost both ends of an American Mideast Conference South division doubleheader at Shawnee State University today. The Bears scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the opener 4-3, then blanked the Cavs 2-0 in the nightcap. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) was the losing pitcher in game one to fall to 8-8. She worked the final five innings. Natalie Voytek (Sr., Cortland, OH/Poland) and Jessica Modic (Fr., Poland, OH/HS) each had two hits. Despite allowing only two unearned runs iin the first inning, and only one-hit, Jamie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured bottom right) was the losing pitcher in game two to fall to 8-6.

The Cavs host the University of Rio Grande in an AMC South doubleheader at 1 pm tomorrow.

"Cavs (20-17, 3-7 AMC S) Sweep Malone/Fall Twice at Urbana"

Walsh (20-17, 3-7 AMC S) started the week with a doubleheader sweep of Malone College to improve their positioning for a post-season playoff run. But the run suffered a huge setback on Tuesday, when the Cavs were swept at Urbana. Walsh then split a non-conference doubleheader at Tiffin University and had their AMC twinbill postponed at Shawnee State. The Cavs are in sixth place, with four AMC games to play. The Cavs host Rio Grande on Saturday at 1 pm, while the games at Shawnee State will be played in Portsmouth on Friday at 3 pm.

Walsh defeated Malone 6-2 and 10-2. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) was the winning pitcher in game one to improve to 8-7. Jamie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured bottom right) was the winning pitcher in game two to improve to 8-5. Kelly Sasavicz (Massillon, OH/Washington/Wittenberg) and Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) each had two hits. Shoup also drove in two runs in game two, going 3-4 with two doubles. Cole helped herself in game two, going 2-3 with a triple. Annie Plouse (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) went 2-4 and Jessica Edmunds (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Green) 2-3. Rebecca Adkison (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Kelly Jackson (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) each drove in two runs.

Urbana downed the Cavs the next day, 2-0 and 5-4. Jamie Cole tossed a four-hitter in defeat in game one. Urbana scored both runs in the first inning. In the nightcap, Urbana scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 5-4. Cole suffered the loss in relief and is 8-7. Kendra Shoup had three hits for the Cavs.

Walsh split a non-conference doubleheader, by identical 2-1 scores, at Tiffin University on Thursday. The Dragons took game one and the Cavs the nightcap. Tiffin snapped a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one. Lindsay Bauer surrendered two unearned runs in suffering the loss (8-8). She fanned six and scattered four hits. Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) went the distance in game two to earn the win and even her record at 3-3. Kelly Jackson gave Walsh a 1-0 lead with a double in the first. After Tiffin tied the game with a run in the bottom of the inning, Jessica Edmunds snapped the tie with a run scoring single in the fourth.

Kendra Shoup leads the Cavs in hitting (.374), hits (43) doubles (7) and slugging percentage (.435). Lindsay Bauer and Jodie Cole have both pitched extremely well. Bauer has won six of her last nine eight decisions. She has demonstrated pin-point control, walking only three batters in 106.1 innings. She leads the team with a 1.25 ERA. Cole, who also has eight wins, has a 1.82 ERA.

"Cavs Split at Tiffin"

Walsh (20-17) split a non-conference doubleheader, by identical 2-1 scores, at Tiffin University (28-16) today. The Dragons took game one and the Cavs the nightcap. Tiffin snapped a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) surrendered two unearned runs in suffering the loss (8-8). She fanned six and scattered four hits. "Urbana Snaps Cavs Five-Game Win Streak, Take Two"

Urbana University snapped Walsh's (19-16, 3-7 AMC S) five-game winning streak by taking an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader in Urbana today. The Blue Knights won 2-0 and 5-4. Walsh is at Tiffin University for a non-conference twinbill on Thursday.

Jamie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) tossed a four-hitter in defeat in game one. Urbana scored both runs in the first inning. In the nightcap, Urbana scored in the bottom of the seventh to win 5-4. Cole suffered the loss in relief and is 8-7. Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) was 3-4.

"Cavs Stay Hot, Sweep Malone"

Walsh (19-14, 3-5 AMC S) continued its fine play, with a sweep of Malone College today in an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader. Walsh won game one 6-2 and the nightcap 10-2. Walsh has now won five games in a row. The Cavs play three more AMC South doubleheaeders this week. They play at Urbana tomorrow, at Tiffin on Thursday and at Shawnee State on Saturday.

"Cavs Sweep Seton Hill, 7-3, 13-7"

Walsh (17-14) swept a non-conference doubleheader at Seton Hill College yesterday. Walsh took game one 7-3 and game two 13-7. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) was the winning pitcher in both games, to even her record at 7-7. Megan Monnot (So., Louisville, OH/Saint Thomas Aquinas), Annie Plouse (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) and Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) each had two hits. Shoup also drove in two runs. Bauer went the distance to record the win. In game two, Bauer came on in the fourth inning of relief to earn the victory. Monnot was 2-3 with two RBI and hit her first homerun of the season and Jaime Notch (So., Suffield, OH/Field/Cleveland St) was 3-4 with two RBI.

The Cavs are idle until Monday, when they host Malone College in a AMC South doubleheader at 3 pm.

"Cavs Split With Notre Dame"

Walsh (15-14) split a non-conference doubleheader with Notre Dame College today. The Blue Falcons capitalized on four Walsh errors in the first two innings to score four unearned in a 6-4 win in game one. Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) started and took the loss for the Cavs to fall to 3-2. Megan Monnot (So., Louisville, OH/Saint Thomas Aquinas) doubled in two runs in Walsh's three-run third innning. Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) was also 3-4 in game one. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) tossed a two-hitter in game two in Walsh's 6-0 win. With the win, Bauer is now 5-7 on the season. Rebecca Adkison (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Archbishop Hoban) was 3-4 and Jessica Edmunds (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Green) was 2-3, with a double, triple and two RBI. Kelly Jackson (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was also 2-3.

The Cavs are at Seton Hill for a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow.

"Cavs Take Two From Ursuline"

Walsh (14-13) moved one game above the .500 mark, after sweeping Ursuline College (11-13) in a non-conference doubleheader yesterday. The Cavs won game one 5-4 and game two 4-1. The Cavs are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Notre Dame College (10-8) in a non-conference twinbill at 3 pm.

Walsh scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one. Lindsey Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right) was the starter and winner for Cavs. She is now 4-7. Bauer also drove in two runs, as did Megan Monnot (So., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas). Kelly Jackson (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) and Rebecca Adkison (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Archbishop Hoban) each had two hits. The Cavs scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to complete the sweep, with a 4-1 win in the nightcap. Jamie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured bottom right) pitched a complete game, two-hitter, to win her seventh game of the season. Cole was also 2-3 at the plate.

"Cavs (12-13, 1-5) Fall Twice in AMC Play"

Walsh (12-13, 1-5 AMC S) lost both ends of an AMC double header with Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday and finished the busy week 3-5. This week, the Cavs host Ursuline College on Monday, Notre Dame College on Wednesday, play at Seton Hill College on Thursday. All are doubleheaders.

Walsh's defense faltered, allowing five unearned runs in a double header loss to Gannon University. The Cavs committed six errors in game one in a 3-1 loss and made three more miscues in game two in a 2-1 defeat. Lindsey Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) started for the Cavs and took the loss in game one to fall to 2-6. Jodie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap, but suffered the loss to fall to 5-2. Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) was 5-6 in the two games, with three doubles, and Cole doubled and drove in Walsh's only run in game two.

"Cavs Drop AMC Double Dip to Mount Vernon Nazarene"

Walsh lost both ends of an American Mideast Confernce South division double header to Mount Vernon Nazarene (8-13, 2-2) today. The Cavs lost game one 4-2 and game two 6-2. Walsh is now 12-13 overall and 1-5 in the AMC South. Mount Vernon rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to steal game one 4-2. "Cavs Sweep Point Park"

Walsh (12-11) swept a twinbill from Point Park College today, 6-0 and 1-0. Lindsey Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) pitched a one-hitter in the 6-0 game one win. Bauer fanned three and did not walk a batter to improve to 3-6. Five Cavaliers had multiple hits, with Jaime Notch (So., Suffield, OH/Field/Cleveland St) driving in two runs and Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) driving in a run and scoring a run. Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) and Jamie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) combined on a two-hitter in Walsh's 1-0 win in game two. "Cavs Split Low Scoring Double Dip With Geneva"

Despite scoring just one run and six hits in two games, Walsh (10-11) split a non-conference double header with Geneva College (14-11) yesterday. The Cavs won the first game 1-0, but lost the nightcap 2-0. Walsh will host Point Park College in a non-conference double header on Friday and Mount Vernon Nazarene University in an American Mideast Conference South twinbill on Saturday.

Walsh scored the games only run in the fifth inning of the opener. Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only hits, to improve to 3-1 on the season. Geneva scored single runs in the first and third innings of game two and held the Cavs to just one-hit in their 2-0 win. "Defense Falters in Double Loss to Gannon"

Walsh's (9-10) defense faltered, allowing five unearned runs in a double header loss to Gannon University today. The Cavs committed six errors in game one in a 3-1 loss and made three more miscues in game two in a 2-1 defeat. Lindsey Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) started for the Cavs and took the loss in game one to fall to 2-6. Jodie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) tossed a two-hitter in the nightcap, but suffered the loss to fall to 5-2. Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) was 5-6 in the two games, with three doubles, and Cole doubled and drove in Walsh's only run in game two.

The Cavs host Geneva College in a non-conference double header at 3 pm tomorrow.

Walsh (9-8, 1-3 AMC S) won their only two games last week, taking a non-conference twinbill from Saint Vincent College. This week, the Cavs host Gannon University on Tuesday, Geneva College on Wednesday, Point Park College on Friday and Mount Vernon Nazarene University in an American Mideast Conference South twinbill on Saturday.

Walsh swept a non-conference double header from Saint Vincent College on Tuesday. The Cavs won game one 2-0 and game two 7-1. Lady luck was finally with first game starting pitcher Lindsey Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) (Pictured top right). After losing two straight 1-0 decisions, Bauer was on the good side of the 2-0 first game final. The veteran right-hander tossed a three-hit shutout, fanning one batter and walking none. The win improved her record to 2-5. Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron Saint Vincent-St. Mary) (Pictured bottom right) pitched a complete game seven-hitter in the nightcap to earn the win. She is 2-1 on the year. Briana Brinker (Fr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Megan Monnot (So., Louisville, OH/Saint Thomas Aquinas) were each 2-3 with a run scored, a double and RBI. Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) was also 2-3 with a run scored.

Shortstop, Annie Plouse, leads the team in hitting with a .364 average. Second baseman, Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS) is hitting .347 and outfielder Kelly Sasavicz (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) is hitting .344. Despite Lindsay Bauer's 2-5 record, she has fashioned an outstanding 1.64 ERA. Bauer also has a team leading seven complete games. Freshman Jodie Cole (Canton, OH/GlenOak) is 5-2, with five complete games and a 2.01 ERA.

"Cavs Sweep Saint Vincent"

Walsh (9-8) swept a non-conference double header from Saint Vincent College today. The Cavs won game one 2-0 and game two 7-1. Walsh's scheduled double header with Edinboro for tomorrow has been postponed. The two teams are looking for a make-up date. Edinboro was forced to postponed in order to play a conference double header.

"Cavs Split With Cedarville"

Walsh (7-8, 1-3 AMC S) opened its new softball complex with a split with Cedarville University (9-5,1-1) in an American Mideast Conference twinbill yesterday. The Cavs new softball complex is located across the street from campus on the land formely known as Hoover Park. Cedarville scored a run in the third inning of game one, and made it stand up in a 1-0 win. Starting pitcher Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) suffered her second straight 1-0 loss, and is 1-5 for the season. The Cavs offense could muster only two hits. In game two, Walsh scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and came away with a 2-1 win. Jodie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) tossed a complete game six-hitter to improve to 5-2. Shortstop Annie Plouse (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) went 3-3.

The Cavs host Saint Vincent College in a twinbill on Tuesday at 3 pm.

"Walsh Swept at ODU"

Walsh (6-7, 0-2) lost both ends of an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader at Ohio Dominican University (11-7, 2-0) yesterday. The Panthers took game one 8-0 and game two 8-3. The Cavs managed just five hits in the two games. Jodie Cole (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) suffered the loss in game one to fall to 4-2 on the season. The Panthers put the game away with five runs in the second inning. In the nightcap, the Cavs led 2-1 in the fourth inning, when the Panthers scored four times to take a 5-2 lead. They would add three more runs in the sixth. Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) started and took the loss for the Cavs. Jaime Notch (So., Suffield, OH/Field) had two hits and two RBI for the Cavs and Kendra Shoup (Jr., Willard, OH/HS).

Walsh's scheduled twinbill at Ashland University for today has been cancelled. The Cavs host Cedarville University in an AMC South doubleheader on Saturday.

"Cavs (6-5) Open AMC Play"

Walsh, picked for fourth in the NAIA Region IX Coaches Poll, opens AMC South play at Ohio Dominican on Tuesday. The Cavs are at Ashland on Wednesday and host Cedarville in a conference battle on Saturday. All games are doubleheaders.

"Cavs Open Season By Taking Two of Three Games"

Walsh opened the 2005 season with two wins in three games in Fort Myers, Florida today. The Cavs shutout Purude-North Central 1-0 in their season opener. Freshman Jodie Cole (Canton, OH/GlenOak) fanned four and pitched a one-hit shutout in going the distance. Rebecca Adkison (Jr., Manchester, OH/Archbishop Hoban) scored the games only run, when she crossed the plate on a squeeze bunt by Annie Plouse (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS). Aquinas handed the Cavs their first loss of the season, winning 8-5. Lindsay Bauer (Sr., Rootstown, OH/HS) suffered the defeat. Bauer allowed all eight runs (seven earned) and fanned seven. Plouse had two hits and an RBI. The Cavs then bounced back to edge Harris-Stowe 4-2 in the days final game. Jodie Cole picked-up the win in relief of starter Megan Pisciotta (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary). Plouse was 2-2 with an RBI and Jessica Edmunds (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Green) was 2-4, with a run scored and RBI.

Walsh plays Robert Morris (3 pm) and Saint Ambrose (8:30 pm) on Monday.

"Cavs Help in Fight Against Breast Cancer"

The Walsh University Softball Team will be one of eight teams playing at Akron's Firestone Stadium in the "Together Against Breast Cancer Fall Fastpitch Classic" on September 19th. All proceeds will go to the Akron General Hospital's "Muffins For Mammograms" program. Walsh meets Edinboro University at 2 pm. Other schools involved include Ashland Unversity, Miami Valley Express, Gannon University, Ohio Dominican University, Northern Kentucky and Indiana (Pa.).

"Walsh University Signs GlenOak's Jodi Cole"

Walsh University Head Women's Softball Coach Ed Vargo has announced the signing of Jodi Cole, who will enroll at the University for the 2004 fall semester to continue her education and participate in intercollegiate athletics for the Cavaliers.

Cole, a pitcher, comes from GlenOak High School to play for the Cavs. She lettered four times for the Golden Eagles and earned First Team All-Federal League honors and Second Team Northeast Ohio honors this past season.
