"Cavs Place Four on All-AMC Team/Bossart Coach of the Year"

Walsh placed four players on the All-American Mideast Conference Team and Head Coach Sherry Bossart was selected Coach of the Year. Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Ecclestoa), Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS), Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) were all selected. Echague earned doubles honors with Rubin. The pair finished 16-5 at second doubles. Pleska earned doubles honors with Webster. They finished 20-2 at first doubles. Rubin, who also earned singles honors, finished 16-5 at first singles. He also earned first team honors on both teams last year. Webster, who plays second singles, was also selected after finishing 16-5. Bossart, who led Walsh to the AMC and NAIA Region IX title, which included a national tournament appearance, has been named Coach of the Year nine of the last ten years.

"Shorter Outs Cavs 9-0"

Walsh (16-6) was ousted, 9-0, by Shorter College (14-5) in their first match at the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama.

"Cavs to Meet Shorter College in First Round Match at Nationals"

Walsh (16-5) meets Shorter College (GA) (13-5) in their first match at the single elimination NAIA National Tournament, which begins Monday in Mobile, Alabama. The Cavs and Shorter play at 9 am. Walsh takes a seven-match win streak into the match. The winner advances to the second round and plays Vanguard University (CA) (15-5) at 9 am on Tuesday. Shorter and Vanguard each received at-large bids.

Top singles player, Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) (Pictured top right), is 16-4 and is on a five-match win streak. Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right) is also 16-4 at second singles and has won his last 12 matches. Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) is 15-6 at third singles and is on a seven-match win streak. Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) is 9-1 at fourth singles and 15-6 overall and is also on a seven-match win streak. Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Ecclestoa) is 6-2 at fifth singles and 12-7 overall and has won his last five matches. Greg Kerschbaum (Fr., Elyria, OH/HS) is 10-4 at sixth singles and Andy Coutts (So., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) is 5-1 at sixth singles. The Cavs top doubles team, Pleska and Webster, have a 20-1 record, with their only loss against Grand Valley State. Rubin and Echague are 16-4 at second doubles and Smith and Kerschbaum are 11-5 at third doubles.

"Cavs Win Eighth Straight Region Title"

Walsh (16-5) won its eighth straight NAIA Region IX/X title, by defeating Cedarville Universisty (16-5) 8-1 today at Cedarville. The win advances the Cavs to the 54th annual NAIA National Championships, May 16-20 in Mobile, Alabama. The Cavs only loss came in third doubles.

"Cavs Blank Roberts Wesleyan/Advance to Region Title Match"

Walsh (15-5) has advanced to the NAIA Region IX/X title match, after blanking Roberts Wesleyan College (6-8) 9-0 today. The Cavs meet Cedarville University (16-4) in the title match at 9 am on Friday, at Cedarville. Cedarville advanced by defeating Ohio Dominican University (12-7) 5-4 today. This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams, Walsh defeated the Yellow Jackets 5-4 on April 15. The Cavs have won seven straight regional crowns. The winner advances to the 54th annual NAIA National Championships, May 16-20 in Mobile, Alabama.

"Cavs (14-5, 8-0) Claim AMC Title/Top Seed For Region IX Tournament at Cedarville"

Walsh has re-captured the American Mideast Conference title, after completing the regular season 8-0 in conference play. The Cavs have won nine of the last ten regular season conference titles. Walsh enters the NAIA Region IX/X tournament as the top seed and on five-match win streak. The Cavs are the defending NAIA Region IX champions and have won seventh straight region championships. Walsh is scheduled to play on Thursday, against an opponent yet to be determined. The tournament is being held at Cedarville University and will conclude on Saturday.

The Cavs topped Malone College and Roberts Wesleyan 9-0 each last week. In fact, the Cavs have won their last three matches by 9-0 scores.

Top singles player, Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic), is 14-4. Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) 14-4 at second singles and has won his last ten matches. Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) is 13-6 at third singles. Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) is 7-1 at fourth singles and 13-6 overall. Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Ecclestoa) is 4-2 at fifth singles and 10-7 overall. Greg Kerschbaum (Fr., Elyria, OH/HS) is 8-4 at sixth singles and Andy Coutts (So., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) is 5-1 at sixth singles. "Cavs Wrap-up AMC With 9-0 Win Over Roberts Wesleyan"

Walsh (14-5, 8-0) wrapped-up the American Mideast Conference regular season championship with 9-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan College today. The win, the fifth straight for the Cavs, was also their third straight 9-0 win. Walsh will defend their NAIA Region IX Championship, beginning Tuesday, at Cedarville University. The winner advances to the 54th annual NAIA Championships, held in Mobile, Alabama, May 16-20.

"Site, Time Change, Roberts Wesleyan Match"

With northeast Ohio on the verge of weather more suited for ducks and penguins, Walsh's scheduled match with Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday has been shifted to the Hall of Fame Courts on Roberts Ave., NW at 11 am. If by some chance, the weatherman is completed wrong, the match will be played on campus.

"Cavs (13-6, 7-0) Blank Conference Rival Malone College to Remain in the Lead in the AMC"

Walsh defeated Malone College 9-0 today to remain in sole possession of first place in the American Mideast Conference. The Cavs have won four straight matches and six of their last seven. The Cavaliers will host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match on Saturday.

Top singles player, Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) (Pictured top right), defeated Dave Neidlinger of Malone 6-2, 7-5 to improve to 13-4 on the season. Steven Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right) also won his singles match, blanking Brian Paul 6-0, 6-0 and continues his win streak, which is up to nine. Chris Pleska, Sean Smith, Martin Echague, and Greg Kerschbaum also defeated their Pioneer opponents. The Cavaliers were also undefeated today in doubles, as the duos of Pleska and NEidlinger, Rubin and Paul, and Smith and Yard each won in their matches. The due of Pleska and Neidlinger improved to 17-1 on the season.

"Cavs (12-6, 6-0) Grab AMC Lead With Win Over Cedarville"

Walsh gained sole possession of first place in the American Mideast Conference, after defeating Cedarville University 5-4 on Friday. The Cavs have won three straight matches and five of their last six. They host Malone College in an AMC match on Tuesday and host Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference match on Saturday.

The Cavs picked-up two points in doubles, and three in singles to notch the win at Cedarville. Walsh then blanked Tiffin University 9-0 on Saturday in an AMC contest. Walsh opened the week with a 5-2 win at Wittenberg University.

"Cavs Beat Cedarville 5-4/Take Over First in AMC"

Walsh (11-5, 5-0) took over sole possession of first place in the American Mideast Conference, after defeating Cedarville University 5-4 on the road today. The Cavs picked-up two points in doubles, and three in singles to notch the win. Walsh is home to Tiffin University tomorrow for an AMC match at 3:30 pm.

"Cavs Down Tigers 5-2"

Walsh (10-5) won three doubles matches and two singles matches, in downing Wittenbert University 5-2 in Springfleld, OH yesterday. Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) (Pictured top right) , Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) (Pictured bottom right), Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) and Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) all won their singles matches. Rubin is 11-3 at first singles and Webster is 10-4 at second singles. Webster and Pleksa also won at first doubles to improve to 14-1. The Cavs are at Cedarville University on Friday and host Tiffin University on Saturday, both are American Mideast Conference matches.

"Cavs (9-5, 4-0) Win Two of Three Matches"

Walsh (9-5, 4-0 AMC) won two of of three matches last week. The Cavs opened the week with a 4-3 win over the College of Wooster, then blanked Seton Hill 9-0 in an American Mideast Conference match and completed the week with a tough 4-5 loss to Case Western Reserve University. This week, the Cavs are at Wittenberg University on Monday, play an AMC contest at Cedarville University on Friday and host Tiffin, in another AMC match on Saturday.

Walsh defeated the College of Wooster 4-3 in a non-conference match at the D.J. Hard Tennis Courts in Wooster. The win was the third straight for the Cavs. Walsh won two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) and Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) won 8-5 at first doubles and Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Ecclestoa) posted an 8-6 win at second doubles. Rubin won 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and Webster won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Chris Pleska, a former Wooster General in high school, won 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at number three singles to give the match to the Cavaliers.

The Cavs had little trouble in blanking Seton Hill 9-0, to improve to 4-0 in the AMC. Saturday was a different story, as they were bester 4-5 at Case Western Reserve University. The Cavs came away with just one singles win, as Stephen Webster won at second singles. The Cavs won all three doubles matches. Webster and Chris Pleska are 13-1 at first doubles. Lanny Rubin and Martin Echauge are 10-3 at second doubles. Rubin is 10-3 first singles, Pleska is 8-5 at third singles and Echague is 6-5 at fourth singles. Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) is 6-5 at fifth singles and Greg Kerschbaum (Fr., Elyria, OH/HS) is 7-3 at sixth singles.

"Cavs Fall 4-5 to Case Western Reserve"

Walsh (9-5) fell 4-5 to Case Western Reserve University yesterday. The Cavs lost five of six singles matches to seal their fate. Today's match at Baldwin Wallace has been cancelled.

"First Place Cavs Blank Seton Hill"

Walsh improved to 9-4 overall and to 4-0 in the American Mideast Conference, after blanking Seton Hill University 9-0 today. The win was the fourth straight for the first place Cavs. Walsh is back in action on Friday, when they host Case Western Reserve at 4 pm. Saturday's match at Baldwin-Wallace College has been cancelled.

Walsh did not lose a set in sweeping Seton Hill (4-7,2-2).

"Cavs Edge College of Wooster 4-3"

Walsh improved to 8-4 on the season, after defeating the College of Wooster 4-3 in a non-conference match at the D.J. Hard Tennis Courts in Wooster today. The win was the third straight for the Cavs. The loss dropped Wooster to 8-2.

Walsh won two of three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) and Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) won 8-5 at first doubles and Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Ecclestoa) posted an 8-6 win at second doubles. Rubin won 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and Webster won 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Chris Pleska, a former Wooster General in high school, won 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at number three singles to give the match to the Cavaliers.

The Cavs are home to Seton Hill on Wednesday at 3:30 pm.

"Cavs (7-4, 3-0) Start to Roll

Walsh (7-4, 3-0 AMC) won twice last week. The Cavs opened the week with a 9-0 win an American Mideast Conference win over Notre Dame College and completed the week with a 9-0 AMC win over Ohio Dominican University. This week, the Cavs are at the College of Wooster on Monday, host Seton Hill in an AMC match on Wednesday, Case Western Reserve on Friday and play at Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday.

The Cavs won from top to bottom against Notre Dame and Ohio Dominican. Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) won at number one singles against Notre Dame and is 8-2. He played doubles only against Ohio Dominican. Stephen Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) won twice and is 7-4. He played number singles in the ODU match. Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) is 7-4 overall, Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Ecclestoa) is 6-3, Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) is 7-4 and Greg Kerschbaum (Fr., Elyria, OH/HS) is 8-1. In double play, Rubin and Echague are 7-3 at second doubles. Pleska and Webster are 10-1 at first doubles and Smith and Kerschbaum are 3-2 at third doubles.

"Cavs Break Two-Match Skid"

Walsh snapped a two-match losing streak with a 9-0 win over Notre Dame College today. The win improves the Cavs to 6-4. The Cavs are home to Slippery Rock State at 3 pm tomorrow and at Ohio Dominican for an American Mideast Conference match at 11 am on Saturday.

"Cavs Blank Saint Vincent"

Walsh improved to 5-2 on the season, after blanking Saint Vincent College 9-0 today. Top singles player, Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic), won 6-1, 6-2 and is 6-1 on the season. Steve Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles and is 5-2. Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles and is 5-2. Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Eccleston) won 6-4, 6-1 at fourth singles and is 5-1. "Time Change For St. Vincent Match"

The time for Tuesday's match with Saint Vincent College has been changed to 12:30 pm.

The Cavs are in Michigan, to meet Grand Valley State on Thursday and Aquinas College on Friday.

"Cavs Suffer First Loss"

Walsh suffered its first loss of the season, losing 3-6 to Catawba College. The Cavs stand 3-1 on the season. Chris Pleska (Sr. Wooster, OH/HS) and Steve Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) improved to 4-0 on the season, after posting a 9-7 tie-breaker win at first doubles. Walsh's other two wins came by forfeit. Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) lost for the first time at first singles, losing 6-7, 4-4. Rubin is 3-1 on the season. The Cavs play East Stroudsburg at 12 pm on Tuesday.

"Cavs Roll On"

Walsh (3-0) continued to play well, blanking West Virginia State and Ithaca College over the weekend, by scores of 9-0. Number one singles player, Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic), won twice to improve to 3-0. Steve Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) won twice at second singles and is also 3-0. The top doubles comnbination of Webster and Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) also improved to 3-0 with back-to-back wins. Pleska also won twice at third singles to improve to 3-0. Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Eccleston) won twice at fourth singles and is 3-0, Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) followed suit at fifth singles (3-0) and Greg Kerschbaum (Fr., Elyria, OH/HS) at sixth singles (3-0). Rubin and Echague improved to 3-0 at second doubles with two wins.

Walsh plays Catawba this morning at 8 am.

"Cavs Open Season With 9-0 Win vs. Findlay"

Walsh (1-0) opened the season with a 9-0 win over NCAA II University of Findlay (1-3) at the Hall of Fame Courts today. Top singles player, Lanny Rubin (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) won 6-0, 6-3 at first singles and teamed with Martin Echague (Jr., Buenos Aires, ARG/Eccleston) to win 8-1 at second doubles. Echague won 6-7, 6-2 (10-8 TB) at fourth singles. Steve Webster (Fr., Lexington, OH/HS) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles and teamed with Chris Pleska (Sr., Wooster, OH/HS) to win 8-0 at first doubles. Pleska won 6-3, 6-2 at third singles. Sean Smith (So., Edgewater, NJ/Bradenton Academy) won 6-1, 6-0 at fifth singles and Greg Kerschbaum (Fr., Elyria, OH/HS) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at number six singles. Tyler Minnis (Fr., Zanesville, OH/HS) and Andy Coutts (So., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) won 8-6 at third doubles.
