"Geabler, Groholy, Vincent Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors"

Three members of the Walsh University Track Team have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Tim Geabler (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) (Pictured top right), Mike Groholy (So., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) (Pictured middle right) and Adam Vincent (Sr. Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) (Pictured bottom right) were each selected to the team for the first time. Geabler is a math/education major and carries a 3.74 grade point average (GPA). Groholy is an education major and carries a 3.65 GPA and Vincent is an English major and has a 3.92 GPA. All three recently competed at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fresno, California. Geabler finished 26th in the marathon (2:48.02), Groholy was 12th in the 5k racewalk (30:02.01) and Vincent was 36th in the marathon (2:57.32).

"Cavs Compete at NAIA Nationals"

Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron Saint Vincent-Saint Mary) reached the semifinals in the steeplechase, and finished 11th (9:53.63), at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fresno, California this past week. Mike Groholy (So., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) finished 12th in the marathon (30:02.01), Tim Geabler ( Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) 26th in the marathon (2:48.02) and Adam Vincent (Sr. Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) 36th in the marathon (2:57.32).

"Geabler, Groholy, Mckee and Vincent to Compet at NAIA Nationals"

Four members of the Walsh University Track Team will compete at the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fresno, California, May 25-27. Tim Geabler (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Mike Groholy (So., Parma, OH/Valley Forge), Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron Saint Vincent-Saint Mary) and Adam Vincent (Sr. Garrettsville, OH/Garfield) will represent the Cavs. Geabler and Vincent will compete in the marathon, Grohly in the 5k racewalk and McKee in the steeplechase. Geabler also qualified in the marathon in 2005.

"Cavs Qualifies 4x800 Relay Team for NAIA Nationals"

Walsh qualified its 4x800 relay team for the NAIA National Championships at the Hillsdale Relays this past weekend. Joel Dagenhardt (Sr., Marlington, OH/HS), Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) Steve Mackle (Sr., Malvern, OH/HS) and Chris Zundel (Jr., Madison, OH/HS) make-up the team, which qualified in a time of 7:51.04).

The Cavs are at the Al Campbell Open at the University of Akron this Saturday.

"Cavs 10th at AMC Meet/Groholy Qualifies for NAIA Nationals in 5k Race Walk"

Walsh finished 10th at the American Mideast Conference championships, held at Cedarville University on Friday and Saturday. Tiffin University won the event with 178 points. Mike Groholy (So., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) qualified provisionally for nationals in the 5K race walk (31:14.58). Earlier (4/15), he qualified for the 1/2 marathon (1:16.54). Joel Dagenhardt (Sr., Marlington, OH/HS) finished third in the 3000m steeplechase (9:57.43) and Pete Tsaftarides (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) fourth in the shot put (47.04.00). Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) was fifth in the 3000m steeplechase (9:58.77) and Alex McCallion (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) was sixth in the 400m hurdles (56.08).

"Cavs 7th After First Day of AMC Championships"

Walsh is in seventh place, after the first day of competition at the American Mideast Conference Championships, held at Cedarville University. Running events start at 10 am on Saturday, while field events continue at 10:30 am.

"McCallion Wins 400m Hurdles at Mount Union Invitational and Geneva"

Walsh participated in non-scoring meets at Geneva College and Mount Union College this past weekend. Alex McCallion (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) placed first for Walsh in the 400m hurdles (56.98), at the Mount Union College Purple Raiders Invitational and first in the event at Geneva ((56.18). McCallion was the only Cavalier to place in the top five in the non-scoring meet at Mount Union. At Mount Union, Anthony Rich (Sr., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) placed sixth in the pole vault (3.32m), Doug Cox (Fr., Dennison, OH/Claymont) was sixth in the long jump (19.01) and triple jump (37.09), Steve Mackle (Sr., Malvern, OH/HS) was sixth in the 800m (2.01.40) and Jon Winnyk (Fr., Strongsville, OH/holy Name) finished sixth in the 5000m (16:37.00). Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) won the 800m at Geneva in a time of 1:58.07 and Chris Zundel was third in the 800mm (1:59.22). The Cavs are at Slippery Rock on Saturday.

"Cavs Fourth at Wooster Invitational"

Walsh finished fourth at the College of Wooster Invitational today. This Saturday, they head to Mount Union College for the Purple Raiders Invitational. Alex McCallion (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Anthony Rich (Sr., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Pete Tsaftarides (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) each won their respective events. McCallion took first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.88. Rich won the pole vault (12-00.00) and Tsaftarides the shot put (46-08.75). Pete Manfredi (Jr., Euclid, OH/Cleveland St. Joseph) placed second in the pole vault (11-00.00) and Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) second in the 1500m run (4:09.30).

"Cavs Qualify two for Indoor Nationals"

Pete Tsaftarides (Top Right - Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) and Mike Groholy (Bottom Right - So., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) have joined Brendan McKee (Fr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) as qualifiers for the 41st annual NAIA National Indoor Championships. Tsaftarides qualified in the shot put (48'6") and Groholy in the race walk (8:49.7) at the Mount Union College Open this past weekend. The NAIA Indoor Championships will be held in Johnson City, TN, March 9-11.

McKee qualified in the mile, when he posted a time of 4:23.95 at Kent State University two Saturday's ago.
