2010 Walsh University Women’s Golf Outlook

“Cavs Ranked 24th in NAIA Poll/Look for Return Trip to Nationals"

Walsh enters the spring portion of the season with championship ambitions after another successful fall campaign. The Cavs finished the 2009 fall season 58-29 and won tournaments at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Walsh and Ohio Northern University. They also placed second at Allegheny College and participated in tournaments at Princeton University, DePauw University and at the University of Akron’s Zippy Invitational, with hopes of being prepared to repeat as American Mideast Conference Champions and make a second straight trip to the NAIA National Championships. They closed the fall receiving 108 points and tied with Lewis and Clark for the 24th spot in the NAIA Preseason Coaches’ Poll. 
 
The Cavs picked up in the fall right where they left off in the spring, with consistent play from Nikki Kulasa (So., Amherst, OH/Steele). All-AMC selection Kim Smith (So., Whitehouse Station, NY/Hunterdon Central), All-AMC selection Katy Collins (Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) and freshman Katie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/Walsh Jesuit). Kulasa captured medalist honors at the home match, Ohio Dominican and Allegheny and averaged 81.4. Kulasa carded a low round of 75 at Ohio Dominican and finished under 80 six other times. Smith notched medalist honors at University of Northwestern Ohio and averaged 81.9. She shot a 72 at UNOH. Collins averaged 84.8 and Kohut 85.4. Kohut shot a 77 at UNOH and was named to the all-tournament team. 
 
Abbey Kimar (So., Canton, OH/Jackson) averaged 86.9 and made the all-tournament team at Walsh’s home match after shooting an opening round 79. Kelsey Ozanich (Fr., Warren, OH/Harding) averaged 86.9.
 
Rounding out the squad will be Mackenzie Smith (So., Magnolia, OH/Canton Central Catholic), Courtney Klemens (So., Mentor, OH/HS) and freshmen Ashley Winston (Twinsburg, OH/HS) and Nicole Barr (Fr., Canton, OH/South).
