"Malone Wins 5th Straight AMC/Region IX Men's Golf Championship/Cavs Finish 6th

(Howard, Ohio) Malone College captured their fifth straight NAIA Region IX and American Mideast Conference championships at Apple Valley Golf Course. The Pioneers shot a final round 281 to secure a 19 stroke lead over Ohio Dominican University. Walsh (23-30) finished sixth with a 72-hole total of 935 (318-311-306).

Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) shot a final round 73 and finished 9th overall (78-75-73=226). Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) also shot a final round 73 and finished tied for 18th (80-77-73=230). Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) tied for 26th (79-78-77=234), Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) tied for 38th (81-81-83=245) and Ethan Williams (Fr, Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) placed 50th (92-92-83=267).

"Cavs 7th After 36-Holes at AMC/Region IX Men's Golf Championships"

(Howard, Ohio) - Ohio Dominican University and Malone College are tied for the lead after the first day of the 2008 NAIA Region IX/X and American Mideast Conference men's golf tournament following Thursday's 27-holes at Apple Valley Golf Course. Walsh stands seventh.

The Panthers and Pioneers shot a first day total of 449 to secure a six stroke lead over SUNY - Delhi who came in third with a 455. Malone is looking for their fifth consecutive and 21st overall conference title. The Cavs shot a first day total of 477.

Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) is tied for 23rd, after scoring 118 (78-40). Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) is tied for 27th (79-40=119) and Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) is tied for 33rd (80-40=120). Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) shot 120 (81-39) and Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) 138 (92-46).

Action resumes at 7:30 am on Friday.

"Cavs Finish Fifth at Malone Invitational"

Walsh (19-25) shot a final round 307, and finished fifth (303-307=610) at the 36-hole Malone College Invitational today. Malone, who led after the first 18 holes, won with a two-day total of 572.

Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) paced the Cavs with a two-day total of 147 (72-75). Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) finished at 151 (73-78), Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) 154 (78-76), Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) 158 (80-78) and Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) 165 (82-83).

Three members of Walsh's "B" team played, with Nick Gallo ( Jr., Wickliffe, OH/HS) carding a 166 (85-81), Pat Moro (Jr., Warren, OH/JKF) 171 (86-85) and Brant Harbert (So., Uniontown, OH/Green) 173 (87-86).

"Cavs 4th After First Round of Malone Invitational, Troyer One Shot off Lead"

Walsh shot an opening round 303, and stand in third place at the Malone College Invitational at Tannenhauf Golf Course. Malone (285) leads the pack, with Ohio Dominican University (295) second and Hope College third (300). Walsh's Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) is one shot off the lead, after firing an opening round 72.

Jessie Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) is in the hunt after shooting 73, Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) fired a 78 and Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) 80.

"Cavs Take First at Home Invitational"

Walsh (16-21) finished first out of three teams in the Walsh University Invitational today. The Cavaliers (316) finished three strokes in front of Malone College (319) "B Team" and twenty-four strokes ahead of the University of Northwestern Ohio (340) to take home the victory.

Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) paced the Cavs, shooting a 75, followed by Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) with a 78, Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) 80, Jessie Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) 83, and Brant Harbert (So., Uniontown, OH/Green) 89.

Walsh also had six individuals compete. Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) led the pack, shooting a 79. Chris Evans (Jr., Toronto, ONT/Notre Dame Catholic) followed with an 82, Tom Eich (So., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) 85, Pat Moro (Jr., Warren, OH/JFK) 89, Nick Gallo ( Jr., Wickliffe, OH/HS) 92, and Dominic Reolfi (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) 94.

"Cavs 7th at Cougar Classic"

Walsh (14-21) finished seventh at the 36-hole Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougar Classic, held at Apple Valley Golf Course on Friday and Saturday. The Cavs two-day total of 637 (310=327), left them 28 strokes behind champion Cedarville University (299-300=599).

Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) paced the Cavs with a 16th place finish (72-83=156). Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) placed 26th (78-80=158), Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) 28th (75-85=160), Jessie Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) 36th (85-79=164) and Nick Gallo ( Jr., Wickliffe, OH/HS) 48th (89-89=178).

Walsh's "B" team also competed. Brant Harbert (So., Uniontown, OH/Green) placed 40th (87-82=169), Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) 44th (90-85=175), Chris Evans (Jr., Toronto, ONT/Notre Dame Catholic) 46th (90-86=176) and Dominic Reolfi (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) 52nd (88-96=184).

"Cavs Falter in Final Round, Finish 3rd at Capital"

After taking a three stroke lead into the final at Capital, the Cavs (13-15) faltered in the final round shooting 328 to finish third at the 2nd Annual Capital Purple & White Men's Golf Invitational at Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne, Ohio. Ohio Dominican University shot a final round 307 and won going away. The Patnhers finished with a two-day total of 616, ten strokes better than second place Shawnee State.

Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) tied for third and paced the Cavs with a 152 (74-78). Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) tied for 12th (74-83=157), Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) tied for 26th (76-86=162), Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) tied for 30th (79-84=163) and Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) tied for 40th (83-83=166).

"Cavs Hold Three-Stroke Lead at Capital"

Walsh holds a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Capital University Purple and White Invitational. The Cavs shot 303, three stroke better than second place Ohio Northern Universitiy.

The final round is slated for Saturday.

"Cavs 5th at Cedarville Invitational

Walsh (5-13) finished 5th at the two-day, 36-hole Cedarville University Invitational held at Beavercreek Golf Club and Country Club of the North. Walsh finished with a two-day total of 635 (316-319). Mount Vernon Nazarene University won the event with a 36-hole score of 610, winning a tie-breaker over Cedarville.

Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) paced the Cavs, and finished 10th with a two-day total of 154 (75-79). Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) shot 156 (79-77) and finished 16th. Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) finished 28th at 161 (79-82) and Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) 33rd with a 164 (83-81). Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) shot 180 (87-93).

"Cavs 3rd at Stark County Phipps Memorial Tournament"

Walsh (0-9) finished third in the 18-hole Stark County Phipps Memorial Tournament, held today at Brookside Country Club in Canton. Malone College won the event with a 309 total, with host, Mount Union College placing second with a 315. Walsh totaled 328. The Cavs "B" Team shot 337.

Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) finished tied for 6th, and paced the Cavs with a 78. Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) was next, placing 12th with an 81. Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/HS) shot 82 (15th-T), Kyle Ren (Fr., Dover, OH/HS) 87 (25th-T) and Dominic Reolfi (So., North Canton, OH/Hoover) 90 (29th).

Nick Gallo ( Jr., Wickliffe, OH/HS) led the "B" Team with a 81, which tied Troyer for 12th. Brant Harbert (So., Uniontown, OH/Green) and Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) each shot 85 (19th-T), and Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) shot an 86 (23rd-T).

"Cavs 8th at Malone Fall Classic"

Walsh (0-7) finished eighth at the Malone College Fall Classic, held at Tannenhauf Golf Course in Alliance on Friday and Saturday. The Cavs "A" Team finished with a two-day total of 619. The Cavs "B" Team shot 649.

Kevin Tournoux (Sr., Lakewood, OH/JHS) paced the Cavs with a two-day total of 153 (76-77). Mike Lenartowicz (Sr., Canton, OH/Perry) was next at 154 (76-78). Justin Lenox (Jr., Canton, OH/Perry) (80-77) and Sam Troyer (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) (79-78) each shot 157. Jesse Green (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) shot 165 (78-87).

Nick Gallo ( Jr., Wickliffe, OH/HS) led the "B" Team with a 158 (76-82). Ethan Williams (Fr., Quaker City, OH/Buckeye Trail) shot 159 (77-82), Tom Eich (So., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) 170 (82-88), Kyle Ren (Fr., Dover, OH/HS) 170 (86-84) and Brant Harbert (So., Uniontown, OH/Green) 171 (91-80).

"Walsh University Hires Kyle Getter as Men's Golf Coach/Assistant Men's Basketball Coach"

Walsh University Director of Athletics, Dale Howard has announced the hiring of Kyle Getter as Head Men's Golf Coach and Assistant Men's Basketball Coach.

Getter comes to Walsh from Marshall University, where he served as the Director of Basketball Operations for two seasons under Head Coach Ron Jirsa. His duties included film exchange, video editing, team travel, recruiting, supervising player academics, overseeing the daily operations of the basketball office, and coordinating The Marshall Thundering Herd Basketball Camp.

Before his arrival at Marshall, Getter worked with Head Coach Paul Biancardi at Wright State, and at The University of Dayton with Head Coach Oliver Purnell. While at Dayton, UD won the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and finished the year with a Top 25 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today and AP Polls.

Getter received his undergraduate degree from Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana. While at Hanover, he served as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach from 1999-2002. He helped the team earn a three-year record of 60-18, winning two conference championships. Getter also served as the Head Women's Golf Coach during the 2001-2002 season. Before attending Hanover, Getter played two seasons at Centre College in Kentucky.

Getter earned his Master's degree in Education Leadership from the University of Dayton.

Kyle and his wife, Michelle, are expecting their first child in September.
