"McKee 31st, Groholy 109th at NAIA Championships/McKee Just Misses All-American Honors"

(Kenosha, WI) Walsh's Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) just missed NAIA All-American honors at today's 52nd Annual Men's NAIA Cross Country National Championships. McKee ran a fine race, and finished 31st in a time of 25.31.6. The top 30 are All-American. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) placed 109th in a time of 26.20.1. There were a total of 258 runners.

"2007 NAIA Cross Country National Championship Qualifiers Announced, McKee, Groholy Qualify"

(Kansas City, Mo.) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the qualifiers for the 52nd Annual Men's NAIA Cross Country National Championship. The race will be held at Dr. Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 17, 2007. The men's race will start at 10:30 a.m. (CST).

This year's men's 8K race will feature 28 teams, including 13 region champions and 15 at-large bids, and 67 individual qualifiers. Walsh's Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) and Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) finished sixth (25:59.75) and seventh (26:11.15) respectively at the AMC/NAIA Region IX Championships on Saturday to qualify. Both earned first team All-AMC and Region IX honors. McKee qualifed in 2005.

Kenosha, the nation's only pure cross country courses with its long-standing history as a community that embraces the sport, has hosted 26 NAIA National Championship Cross Country events from 1976 to 1979 and 1981 to 2002.

"Cavs 4th at AMC/NAIA Region IX Championships, Await Possible At-Large Berth"

It was a beautiful day for a race, as Walsh (49-14) hosted the American Mideast Conference/NAIA Region IX Championships today. The Cavs finished a strong fourth (84), behind champion Malone College (24), Cedarville University (69) and Shawnee State University (70). For Malone, it was their 15th straight conference title, which gives the Pioneers the automatic bid to the NAIA Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin on November 17. Walsh still has an outside chance at an at-large berth and an excellent chance for at least two individuals at the meet.

Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) and Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) finished sixth and seventh respectively, to earn first team All-AMC and Region IX honors. Both should qualify as individuals. They will find out on Tuesday. McKee finished in a time of 25:59.75 and Groholy in a time of 26:11.15.

Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) earned second team All-AMC-NAIA Region IX, with his 14th place finish in a time of 26:35.5. Geabler has an outside chance at a berth. Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) placed 26th (27:06.95) and Chris Zundel (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) 31st (27:38.45).

"Cavs to Host AMC/NAIA IX Championships"

Walsh (40-11) is set to host the American Mideast Conference Championships this Saturday, with a berth to the 52nd annual NAIA Men's Cross Country Championships at stake. The national meet will be held in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 17. The Cavs were idle last week.

Walsh finished fourth last year, and last won the conference championship in 1991. Malone College, ranked first in the NAIA for the last seven weeks, is the odds on favorite. The Pioneers have won the last 14 conference championships. Other AMC schools expected to challenge the Pioneers are 14th ranked Shawnee State University, Cedarville University (RV) and the Cavs. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:15 am. There is no charge for admission.

"Cavs Dominate AMC Preview Meet"

Walsh (40-11) won the three-team American Mideast Conference Preview Meet today over Notre Dame (2nd-52 pts.) and Point Park (3rd-87 pts). Walsh (16 pts) will host the AMC Championships in two weeks (11/3).

Number one man Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) led the field with a first place finish in a time of 26:39. The Cavs would capture the top four places and eight of the top ten finishes.

Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) was next for Walsh, finishing second in a time of 27:16. Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) was third (27:42), Chris Zundel (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) fourth (27:50), Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) sixth (28:15), Andrew Schulz (Sr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) seventh (28:17), Adam Hrdlicka (Fr., Lakewood, OH/HS) ninth (29:01) and Matt Long (So., Mogadore, OH/Field) tenth (29:23).

"Cavs 8th at UW Parkside/McKee Finishes 6th"

Walsh (38-11) finished 8th at the University Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Invitational today. Aquinas College (MI) won the event over second place Embry Riddle (FL).

The Cavs' Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) ran an outstanding race, and finished sixth overall in a time of 25:58. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) was next for Walsh, finishing 28th in a time of 26:45. Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) placed 42nd (27:12), Chris Zundel (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) 51st (27:28) and Andrew Schulz (Sr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) 64th (27:50).

Luke Immel (Fr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) placed 91st (29:12) and Josh Rogers (Sr., Hartville, OH/Lake) 93rd (29:16).

"Cavs Win Rio Grande Invitational/Mckee Finishes First"

Walsh improved to 31-4, after winning the University of Rio Grande Invitational today. Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) paced the Cavs with a first place finish in a time of 26:25. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) was next for Walsh, finishing third in a time of 27:03. Chris Zundel (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) was sixth (27:38), Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) seventh (27:39), Evan Heck (Fr., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) eighth (28:02), Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) 14th (28:37) and Josh Rogers (Sr., Hartville, OH/Lake) 17th (28:55).

"Cavs Third at Wooster Invitational"

Walsh (25-4) finished third (91) at the College of Wooster Invitational today. Ashland University (23) finished first, with Case Western Reserve University (43) placing second.

Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) paced the Cavs with a fifth place finish in a time of 27:16. Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) was next, finishing 22nd in a time of 28:13. Evan Heck (Fr., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) was right behing Geabler, finishing 23rd (28:23). Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) placed 31st (28:53), Andrew Schulz (Sr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) 33rd (28:57) and Chris Zundel (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) 40th (29:34).

"Cavs Fourth at National Catholic Meet"

Walsh (22-4) finished an impressive fourth at the National Catholic Meet, held in South Bend, Indiana on the campus of the University of Notre Dame today.

Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) paced the Cavs with a fifth place (26:04). Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) was next for Walsh, placing 18th (27:08). Evan Heck (Fr., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) placed 29th (27:28), Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) 41st (27:47) and Chris Zundel (Sr., Madison, OH/HS) 49th (28:03).

"Cavs Place Second in Pre-AMC Meet"

Walsh (2-1) finished second in the PRE AMC Meet held on campus today. Shawnee State University (18) won four-team event, with Walsh second (50), Notre Dame College third (89) and John Carroll University fourth (107). Next Friday, the Cavs will travel to South Bend, IN for the National Catholic Cross Country Championships. Walsh finished fourth last year.

Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St Vincent-St. Mary) paced the Cavs with a third place (27:33) finish. Evan Heck (Fr., Navarre, OH/Central Catholic) was next for the Cavs with a 12th place finish (29:11). Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) was 13th (29:14), Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) 14th (29:28) and Andrew Schulz (Sr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) 17th (29:40).

"Men Open Season with AMC Preview Meet on Saturday"

Walsh's men's cross country team opens the season on Saturday at home, as they host the American Mideast Conference Preview Meet. The men's race is at 10:45 am. This is the first of two AMC Previews, as Walsh will also host the AMC/Region IX Championships on Saturday, November 3.

Walsh's men return 10 letter winners for veteran Head Coach Dan McCallion. The Cavs finished 52-17-1 last season.
