"Cavs Place Five on All-AMC South Team"

Walsh placed five players on the All-American Mideast Conference South Division Team. Designated player Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) was named second team, while Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmsted, HS), Amanda Patrick (Fr., Fr., Medina, OH/Cloverleaf), Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) and Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) were named honorable mention.

Notch hit .295 with five doubles, four homeruns and 22 RBI. She also led the team with a .474 slugging percentage. Notch finishes her Walsh career with eight homeruns, tied for 5th all-time. Lewis, the Cavs everyday second baseman, hit .324 with eight doubles and 15 RBI. Patrick, an outfielder, hit a team best .420 in 38 games. Schmidt, the Cavs shortstop, hit .309 with ten doubles, two triples, four homeruns and 22 RBI. Sherry, who led the team with a .357 average, also led the pitching staff with nine wins. At the plate, she led the team in hits (56), doubles (14) and RBI (25). On the mound, Sherry was 9-9 with a 2.73 ERA in 23 appearances and 19 starts. She led the staff with 16 complete games and in innings pitched (123).

"Cavs (21-28, 6-8 AMC S) Lose to Ohio Dominican in AMC Qualifying Playoff"

Walsh's (21-28, 6-8 AMC S) season came to a close, when the lost the best of three AMC qualifying tournament at Ohio Dominican University last Thursday. The Cavs lost 10-2 and 5-0. Earlier in the week, the Cavs split a doubleheader at Geneva College.

Freshman Krystal Sherry (Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) led the Cavs with a .357 average, and with 14 doubles and 25 RBI. She also led the pitching staff with a 9-9 record and 2.73 ERA. The loss of right-hander Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) was huge for the Cavs. Hartings, who injured her hamstring while playing first base, was 6-8 with a 3.10 ERA. The Cavs received fine years from a number of freshmen. Jessica Hudnall (Akron, OH/Ellet) hit .347 in 30 games, infielder Jamie Lewis (North Olmsted, OH/HS) hit .324 with eight doubles and 15 RBI, while Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) hit .309 with 22 RBI.

"Season Ends with Sweep at ODU"

(Columbus, OH) Walsh (21-28) lost both ends of an AMC qualifying doubleheader at Ohio Dominican University (20-26) today, 10-2 (5) and 5-0. ODU now advances to the NAIA regional tournament, which will take place next week.

Ohio Dominican scored four runs in the first inning of game one, and then tacked on two runs in the second and the third. Walsh's only runs came on a two-run single by Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) in the fifth inning. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) took the loss and finishes the season 9-9. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) was charged with the loss in the nightcap. She was victimized by four unearned runs. ODU scored single runs in the third and fourth. The Panthers then put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"Cavs Split at Geneva"

(Beaver Falls, PA) Walsh (21-26) split a non-conference doubleheader at Geneva College today. The Cavs won the opener 5-3, but dropped the nightcap 6-5. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) picked-up the win in game one to improve to 9-8. Walsh scored all five runs in the fifth inning. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) was 2-4 and drove in a run, and Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-3 with an RBI. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) took the loss in game two. Sherry was 2-4.

Walsh is at Ohio Dominican on Thursday for an AMC Qualifying Tournament best two out of three series. Game time for the doubleheader is 3 pm. If there is a game three, it would be played on Friday.

"Cavs (20-25, 6-8 AMC S) Meet Ohio Dominican in AMC Qualifying Playoff"

Despite losing five of their final six American Mideast Conference South games, Walsh (20-25, 6-8 AMC S) has qualified for the upcoming conference qualifying tournament. The Cavs play at Ohio Dominican University (17-25, 10-4 AMC S), in the best two out of three series in Columbus starting on Thursday at 3 pm. The two teams play a twin bill on Thursday, and play the deciding game on Friday, if necessary. Before the big games in Columbus, the Cavs travel to Geneva College for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 12 pm.

Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) leads the Cavs with a .350 average, and with 13 doubles and 23 RBI. She is also leading the pitching staff with an 8-8 mark and 2.44 ERA. Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmsted) is hitting .324 and Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) .313. Schmidt is tied for the homerun lead (four) with Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field). Right-hander Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) is still out with a hamstring injury, suffered while playing first base.

Cavs (20-25, 6-8 AMC S) Stumble in AMC

Walsh (20-25, 6-8 AMC S) lost five out of six American Mideast Conference games week, and fell from third to fifth in the Southern Division. With the regular season AMC South slate complete, the Cavs will have to have help in order to qualify for the post season. They are idle this week.

Walsh fell 9-3 and 16-4 to Malone College last Tuesday. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) was 3-4 in game one and Danielle Evancho (Fr., Strongsville, OH/HS) drove in three runs. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) was 3-3 in the nightcap. On Thursday, Walsh lost twice at Shawnee State, 6-0 and 3-2. On Saturday, the Cavs split in their home finale with the University of Rio Grande. Walsh won game one 7-6. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) singled in the tying run and winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) picked-up the win and is 6-9 on the year.

"Cavs Split With Rio Grande"

Walsh (20-25, 6-8 AMC S) split an American Mideast Conference doubleheader with the University of Rio Grande today. The Cavs won the opener 7-6, but fell 5-2 in eight innings in the nightcap. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) fanned six and picked-up the win in the opener. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field), in her final home game, drove in the tying and winning runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Walsh dropped the nightcap, as Rio Grande scored three runs in the eighth inning to win 5-2. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) went the distance, but was tagged with the loss. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) had a triple and drove in both of Walsh's runs.

"Cavs Fall Twice at Shawnee State"

(Portsmouth, OH) Walsh (19-24, 5-7 AMC S) lost both ends of an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader, 6-0 and 3-2 at Shawnee State today . Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) went the distance, but was tagged with the loss in game one. Walsh could muster only three hits. Shawnee scored five runs in the first three innings. In game two, Walsh led 2-1 in the sixth, but lost it when the Bears scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) was the losing pitcher. Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) had two hits for the Cavs and drove in a run.

"Cavs Drop AMC Twinbill to Malone"

Walsh (19-22, 5-5 AMC S) lost both ends of an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader to Malone College today, 9-8 and 16-4. Malone rallied from a 6-5 deficit to win game one. In game one, Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) and Jess Modic (Jr., Poland, OH/Poland Seminary) each had three hits. Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) Danielle Evancho (Fr., Strongsville, OH/HS) each doubled. Malone scored six runs in the first inning of game two. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) had two hits, while Evancho again doubled.

Walsh is at Shawnee State for a make-up AMC twinbill on Thursday.

"Cavs (19-20, 5-3 AMC S) Third in AMC/Face Malone at Home on Tuesday"

Walsh (19-20, 5-3 AMC S) won five out of six games last week, including an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader against Cedarville University. The Cavs are in third place in the South, with three AMC twin bills this week. The Cavs are home to rival Malone College on Tuesday (3 pm), at Shawnee State on Thursday (3 pm), in a make-up from last Saturday, and home to the University of Rio Grande on Saturday (1 pm). The Cavs play a non-league twinbill at Geneva College on Wednesday (3 pm).

Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) won three times for the Cavs last week. Sherry pitched a three-hit shutout, with six strikeouts, in a 3-0 win against Ohio Valley. She then pitched a four-hitter in Walsh's 3-1 over Seton Hill and closed the week with an AMC win over Cedarville University (9-3). She is 8-5 on the season.

Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) won twice, with a shutout win over Seton Hill and an AMC win over Cedarville. Pisciotta tossed a four-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Seton Hill, and then won 9-2 over Cedarville. Jodi Stanley (Fr., Windham, OH/HS) was 5-6 with two RBI in the Cedarville twin bill, while Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) was 4-7 with four RBI. Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-3 with three RBI in game two against the Yellow Jackets.

Krystal Sherry leads the Cavs with a .341 average, and with ten doubles and 21 RBI. She is also leading the pitching staff with an 8-5 mark and 1.65 ERA. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) is hitting .338, and has four homeruns and 18 RBI. Laura Schmidt is tied for the homerun lead with Notch, and is hitting .325 with eight doubles and 17 RBI.

"Cavs Sweep Yellow Jackets"

Walsh (19-20, 5-3 AMC S) won both ends of an AMC South twinbill from Cedarville University today, 9-3 and 9-2. The Cavs play an AMC South twinbill at Shawnee State tomorrow. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) was the winning pitcher in the opener. She was also 2-3 at the plate. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) hit her fourth home run of the year, going 2-4 with two RBI. Jodi Stanley (Fr., Windham, OH/HS) was also 2-3 with two RBI. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) won her second straitght game, pitching a complete game in the nightcap. Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-3 with three RBI. Schmidt was 2-4 with two RBI. Jess Modic (Jr., Poland, OH/Poland Seminary) and Stanley each had three hits.

"Cavs Take Two From Seton Hill"

Walsh (17-20) took a non-conference doubleheader from Seton Hill today, 8-0 and 3-1. The Cavs are back in action on Friday, when they host Cedarville University in an AMC twin bill at 3 pm.

Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) pitched a four-hit shutout in the opener. Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet), who was 3-4, and Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson), each drove in two runs. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) pitched a four-hitter to pick-up the win in the nightcap. Schmidt and Jodi Stanley (Fr., Windham, OH/HS) each drove in a run and Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) was 2-3.

Walsh (15-20) split a non-conference doubleheader with Ohio Valley today. The Cavs won game one 3-0, but dropped the nightcap 9-2. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) started, and pitched a complete game in game one in picking-up the win. She fanned six. Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) drove in the first run on a squeeze bunt. Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) and Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) drove in the other runs. Sherry drove in a run in game two. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) started game two and was charged with the loss.

"Errors Doom Cavs at Notre Dame"

(South Euclid, OH) Walsh (14-19) commited five errors and allowed seven unearned runs in an 8-5 non-conference loss at Notre Dame College today. The second game was postponed. Notre Dame scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the third. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) started and pitched a complete game, but charged with the loss. First baseman Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 3-4 with two RBI and catcher Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-2 with a triple.

The Cavs host Mountain State in a doubleheader on Saturday (2 pm).

"Cavs Cooled at Tiffin"

(Tiffin, OH) Walsh (14-18) lost both ends of non-conference doubleheader at Tiffin University today, 10-2 (5) and 9-6. Walsh starter Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) took the loss in game one. Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) was 2-3, and Amanda Patrick (Fr., Medina, OH/Cloverleaf) 2-2. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) started game two and was charged with the loss. (14-16, 3-3 AMC S) Red-Hot Cavs Back in AMC Race

After starting the season 3-13, the Cavs have won 11 of their last 14 games and climbed back into the race in the American Mideast Conference South Division.Since losing two games to Ohio Dominican, Walsh has won three of their last four AMC games. This week, the Cavs play three non-conference doubleheaders.Walsh is at Tiffin University (3 pm) on Tuesday, at Notre Dame College (3 pm) on Wednesday, and home to Mountain State on Saturday (2 pm).

Walsh opened their 7-3 week with a doubleheader loss at Ohio Dominican on Tuesday. Errors hurt the Cavs in both games, as they committed seven in the two games.Walsh dropped the opener 8-6 and the nightcap 8-7.The Cavs then bounced back the next day to take two games from Edinboro University, 2-1 in nine innings, and 17-2.Ashley Whitt (Fr. Manchester OH/HS) had the game winning hit in game one, after Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) had doubled to tie the game.Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) went the distance to pick-up the win.Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) had a career day in game two, with two homeruns and seven RBI.Notch hit a grand slam in the first inning, and a three-run blast in the third.She leads the team with four homeruns and 18 RBI.Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) picked-up the win.

Walsh then won two non-league games from Point Park on Friday, 4-1 and 9-1. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) tossed a three-hitter to win the opener.Walsh then banged out 15 hits in the nightcap, with Sherry and Notch each having two doubles.Sherry had three hits and two RBI, and was the winning pitcher.

After dropping a 6-4 decision in game one at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Saturday, Walsh gained the split in the AMC South twin-bill with a 6-2 win in game two.Hartings took the loss in the opener.Behind Pisciotta (3-5) in game two, Walsh came away with the split.Hartings drove in two runs, as did Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson).Walsh scored six runs in the first inning at Urbana on Sunday in winning game one 10-8.Schmidt led-off the game with a homerun and drove in two runs. Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-4, with a double and two RBI. Hartings fanned 12 in winning her sixth game of the season.She is 6-8, with a 3.10 ERA.Schmidt homered in game two and Krystal Sherry won for the fifth time, as Walsh completed the AMC South sweep.Kelly Jackson's seventh inning double snapped a 3-3 tie and gave the Cavs the win.

Walsh's bats have come to life, as they have raised their team batting average 38 points, to .284 in the last 10 games.Jamie Notch is hitting a team-leading .354 and is having a triple crown season, as she also leads in homeruns (4) and RBI (18). Ashley Whitt is hitting .346, Jessica Hudnall .325 and Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmstead, OH/HS) .321.Sherry leads the staff with a 1.78 ERA, while Hartings leads with six wins and 96 strikeouts in 97 innings.

"Red-Hot Cavs Sweep Urbana"

(Urbana, OH) Red-hot Walsh (14-16, 3-3 AMC S) won for seventh time in their last eight outings, with an American Mideast Conference South sweep at Urbana today. Walsh won game one 10-8, and then 4-3 in game two. After starting the season 3-13, Walsh has won 11 of their last 14 games.

Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) fanned 12 in picking-up the win in the opener. Hartings allowed only one earned run in improving her record to 6-7. Shortstop Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) led-off the game with a homerun, as the Cavs scored six runs in the first inning. Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-4 with a double and three RBI, and Jess Modic (Jr., Poland, OH/Poland Seminary) was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) pitched the Cavs to a 4-3 win in the nightcap. The Cavs snapped a 3-3 in the seventh on a run scoring double by Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet). Schmidt hit a solo homer.

"Cavs Split With Cougars"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) Walsh (12-16, 1-3 AMC S) split an American Mideast Conference doubleheader at Mount Vernon Nazarene University (15-3, 1-1 AMC S) today. The Cougars took game one 6-4, with Walsh taking the nightcap 6-2. Walsh is at Urbana University tomorrow for an AMC South twinbill at 1 pm.

Mount Vernon scored four runs in the third inning, and single runs in the fourth and sixth inning of game one. Walsh scored two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth. Shortstop Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) and second baseman Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmsted, OH/HS) were each 2-4, with left fielder Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) going 2-3. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) started,and went the distance, but took the loss to fall to 5-7. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning of game two, Walsh rallied with two runs in the second, and three in the sixth in gaining the split. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) pitched a complete game to pick-up the win. She scattered eight hits and fanned three. Schmidt had a double and a RBI, as did third baseman Kelly Jackson (Jr., Canton, OH/Jackson).

"Cavs Extend Streak to Four With Sweep of Point Park"

Walsh (11-15) extended its winning streak to four games with a non-league doubleheader sweep of Point Park today. The Cavs won game one 4-1, and game two 9-1 in six innings. The Cavs are at Mount Vernon Nazarene for an American Mideast Conference South double header tomorrow.

Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) went the distance to earn the win in the opener. Karla Emery (So., Conneaut, OH/HS) drove in two runs in Walsh's three-run second inning, while Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmsted, OH/HS) was 2-3. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) pitched a complete game in the nightcap, and added three hits, including two doubles and two RBI. Lewis was 2-2 with two RBI, Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) was 2-2 with two doubles and Kara Holler (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) had was 2-3.

"Cavs Take Two From Edinboro, Notch Drives in Seven Runs in Nightcap"

Walsh (9-15) took both ends of a non-conference double header from Edinboro University today, 2-1 in nine innings in game one, and 17-2 in the nightcap. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) went the distance to earn the win in the opener. Edinboro snapped a scoreless tie with a single in the top of the ninth inning to setup the Cavs dramatics. Hartings reached base in the ninth, and was pinch-run for by Kara Holler (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet). Holler then scored the tying run on a Kelly Jackson (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) double. Chelsea Saunders (Fr., Hinckley, OH/Highland) then ran for Jackson, and scored the winning run on an Ashley Whitt (Fr., Manchester, OH/HS) single. Hartings allowed only two hits and fanned nine in winning her fifth game of the season.

Walsh's bats came to life in game two. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) had one of the finest days in Cavs history. Notch slammed a grand slam home run over the right centerfield fence in the first inning, and followed it with a three-run, opposite field blast in the third. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) was 4-4, with three doubles and two RBI. Jamie Lewis (Fr., North Olmsted, OH/HS) was 3-4, with a double and RBI, and Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) was 3-4 with four runs scored and a double. Karla Emery (So., Conneaut, OH/HS) was 2-2 with an RBI, and Saunders was 2-3. Sherry started for the Cavs and was the winning pitcher, improving her record to 3-3.

"Cavs Fall Twice in Columbus"

(Columbus, OH) Walsh's (7-15, 0-2 AMC S) five-game win streak came to a screehing halt, when they fell twice at Ohio Dominican University today in an American Mideast Conference South doubleheader. The Cavs fell 8-6 and 8-7. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) was the starting and losing pitcher in game one, despite fanning eight. The Cavs made four errors behind Hartings. She did help her cause by going 2-4 at the plate. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) continues her hot hitting, going 2-4, with a double and two RBI. "Cavs Take Two, Streak Reaches Five"

Walsh (7-13) extended its longest winning streak of the season to five games, after sweeping Ursuline College by identical 3-2 scores today. Walsh rallied with three runs in the home half of the sixth inning to wipe out a 1-0 Ursuline lead to win game one. Kelly Jackson's (Jr., Akron, OH/Ellet) single gave Walsh the lead for good. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) picked-up the win to improve to 4-6 on the season. She fanned nine and went the distance. Walsh had to come from behind in game two to complete the sweep. And again it was in the sixth inning that the Cavs rallied. Walsh trailed 2-1, when they pushed across two runs on RBI singles from Jodi Stanley (Fr., Windham, OH/HS) and Hartings. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) went the distance and is now 2-3 on the season.

"Cavs Take Two From Myers"

Walsh (5-13) won both ends of a doubleheader from Myers University today. The Cavs took game one 11-0 in five innings, and then won the nightcap 5-2. Walsh is home to Saint Vincent College on Friday.

Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) was starter and winner for the Cavs in game one, improving to 1-3. She was also 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) was 3-4 with a double and a triple, while Jess Modic (Jr., Poland, OH/Poland Seminary) was 2-3. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) improved to 3-6, picking-up the win in game two. Walsh banged out 12 hits in the nightcap, and committed just one error in the two games. Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 3-4 with a double, and Kara Holler (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) was 2-3. Sherry drove in two runs.

Cavs (3-13) Offensive Struggles Continue, Hope to Right Ship in AMC Play

Walsh's (3-13) offensive woes continued, as they scored 13 runs in going 1-3 this past week. The Cavs are hitting just .210 and have been out scored 98-40 in the first 16 games. The Cavs did snap a six-game losing streak, when they won the second game of a double header on Sunday. This week they play eight games, including their American Mideast Conference South Division opener at Urbana University (1 pm) on Saturday. The Cavs play non-league games with Ursuline College (3 pm) at home on Tuesday, Myers University (3 pm) at home on Wednesday, and Saint Vincent College (3 pm) at home on Friday.

The Cavs lost 3-2 and 6-1 to Mount Union College on Wednesday. First baseman Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) was 3-4 with a double and two RBI in game one. In game two, all of Mount Union's runs were unearned, as the Cavs made three errors. Walsh committed a season-high eight errors in their 14-4 loss to Hiram College in game one on Sunday. The team has committed 42 errors for the season. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) went the distance as Walsh gained a split with a 6-4 win in game two. Hartings is 2-6 on the season. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) and Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) each homered in the win. Walsh lost outfielder Shannon Spellacy (Fr., Brunswick, OH/HS) for the season with a broken clavicle.

"Cavs Split, Stop Skid"

Walsh (3-13) snapped a six-game losing streak, with a doubleheader split with Hiram College today. After falling 14-4 in the opener, the Cavs bounced back to win the second gmae 6-4. Walsh is home to Ursuline College in a non-conference double header on Tuesday.

Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) and Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) were victimized by shoddy defense in game one. The Cavs committed eight errors, allowing 11 unearned runs. Sherry worked the first three innings and took the loss.

Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) improved to 2-6, with a complete game victory in game two. Hartings fanned five, and was supported by solo homeruns from Sherry and Laura Schmidt (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson). Injuries, which have plagued the Cavs from the start, surfaced again when Shannon Spellacy (Fr., Brunswick, OH/HS) was lost for the season due to a broken clavicle.

"Cavs Lose Twice to Mount Union"

Walsh fell to 2-12, after losing both ends of a doubleheader to Mount Union College today. The Purple Raiders won game one 3-2 in eight innings, then walked to a 6-1 win in the nightcap. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) was the losing pitcher in game one, falling to 1-6. It was Harting's throwing error that allowed the winning run to score in the eighth. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) was 3-4, and drove in both of the Cavs' runs. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) was tagged for six unearned runs in the nightcap in taking the loss. Outfielder Ashley Whitt (Fr., Manchester, OH/HS) was 2-2.

Walsh will host Hiram College in a double header on Friday, game one will start at 3 pm.

"Cavs Hope to Get on Track"

Walsh (2-10) struggled on their annual spring trip, winning just two out of 12 games.The Cavs had the deadly combination of a weary offensive (.203) and a struggling defense (30 errors).They were held to three runs or less nine times, and were shutout four times.They open the Ohio portion of the season with double headers at Mount Union on Wednesday (2:30 pm), and at home with Hiram College (2 pm) on Friday.

First baseman Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) led the Cavs offense with two homeruns, six RBI and a .333 average in 11 games. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) hit .273 in 12 games, and was 0-2 on the mound with a team best 3.00 ERA. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) pitched in tough luck the whole trip and finished 1-5, with a 3.59 ERA. Hartings fanned 33 in 41 innings, but was victimized by 17 unearned runs. She pitched a complete game three-hitter in Walsh's 3-1 win over Evangel.

"Walsh Splits"

(MS) Walsh (2-8) games with Critchon and Bellhaven today in the Bellhaven Elite-8 Tournament. The Cavs downed Critchton 8-7, but fell 12-5 to Bellhaven. The Cavs play Quachita Baptist at 12 pm on Saturday, and William Carey at 2 pm.

Jessica Hudnall (Fr., Akron, OH/Ellet) drove in three runs, and Jodi Stanley (Fr., Windham, OH/HS) had two hits and an RBI in the Cavs opening game win. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) picked-up the win in relief. The Cavs fell apart defensively in game, allowing 11 unearned runs, in a 12-5 loss to Bellhaven. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) was victimized by the Cavs shoddy defense and was charged with the loss. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) homered and Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) was 2-3 with an RBI.

"Cavs Gain First Win in Split"

(FL) Walsh (1-7) won for the first time this season, when took game one of a doubleheader with Evangel today. The Cavs took the opener 3-1, before falling 3-0 in the nightcap. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) fanned five in picking up the win in the opener. She also went 2-2 at the plate. Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) allowed just one earned run the nightcap, but was charged with the loss. She fanned three and scattered five hits.

The Cavs are back in action on Friday, when they play a split twinbill against Crichton and Bellhaven in Jackson, MS.

(FL) Walsh's (0-6) losing streak reached six, when they were swept 4-1 and 3-0 by Martin Methodist today. "West Florida Sweeps Cavs"

(FL) Walsh lost a doubleheader to the University of West Florida today, to fall to 0-4 on the spring. The Cavs dropped the opener 10-4, and then the nightcap 4-0. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) started, but lasted just 1.2 innings in taking the loss in the opener. Jamie Notch (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) went 2-3 and drove in a run for the Cavs. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) went the distance in the nightcap and was charged with the loss. Walsh could muster only two hits off of West Florida starter Taren Walton.

"Cavs Fall Twice to Coe College"

(FL) Walsh (0-2) dropped a doubleheader to Coe College today, 8-1 and 5-1. The Cavs meet West Florida in a twinbill on Monday (12 pm). Walsh mustered just one-hit, a single by Jodi Stanley (Fr., Windham, OH/HS), in the opener. Dana Hartings (Jr., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) started for the Cavs and took the loss. Hartings allowed five runs, but only two earned. Megan Pisciotta (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) finished the game for the Cavs. Unearned runs were the nemesis in game two as well, as the Cavs Krystal Sherry (Fr., Brunswick, OH/Holy Name) was victimized in a 5-1 loss. Sherry went the distance, and allowed only one earned run, while fanning four. She also went 3-3 and drove in the Cavs only run.

"Vargo Inducted in Akron Amateur Softball Commission Hall of Fame"

Walsh University's women's softball coach, Ed Vargo, was inducted recently as a 2006 member of the Akron Amateur Softball Commission Hall of Fame.

The Akron Amateur Softball Commission Hall of Fame offers an opportunity to recognize the past performances of softball players, umpires, managers, league directors and sponsors, in the Akron area.

Vargo, a fast-pitch pitcher of renown, has played softball for close to 30 years. He compiled a 400-win 232-loss record, with half a dozen no hitters. Ed played for the Barberton Merchants in 1975 and went on to play for Klaben Ford, Akron Merchants, Lindsey's Bar, Repair-That-Glass and other quality teams. Vargo won the MVP award in the 1995 State Tournament after pitching seven games. He has also been on teams that have won four league titles, eleven tournaments, three state tournaments and one regional tournament.

The Commission, a non-profit organization, also has instituted a City Softball Tournament, made available funds for fencing and other improvements, served as a link between teams and the city and established a softball Hall of Fame.

Walsh University is an independent, co-educational Catholic liberal arts and sciences institution that promotes academic excellence and diversity and provides close faculty-student interaction. It is dedicated to teaching its nearly 2,500 students to become leaders in service to others through a values-based education with an international perspective in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

"Cavs Announce 2006-07 Recruiting Class"

Walsh University Head Coach, Ed Vargo, has announced his 2006-07 recruiting class. Dani Evancho (Strongsville, OH/HS), Kara Holler (Akron, OH/Ellet), Jessica Hudnall (Akron, OH/Ellet), Jamie Lewis (North Olmsted, OH/HS), Amanda Patrick (Medina, OH/Cloverleaf), Chelsea Saunders (Hinckley, OH/Highland), Laura Schmidt (Canton, OH/Jackson), Krystal Sherry (Brunswick, OH/Holy Name), Shannon Spellacy (Brunswick, OH/HS) and Jodi Stanley (Windham, OH/HS) have all signed NAIA National Letters of Intent and will enroll for the 2006 fall semester.

Evancho is a catcher from Strongsville. She hit .551 with 38 hits, six doubles, 16 RBI and complied a .600 on base percentage as a senior and was selected First team All-Conference, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Sun Star and was Team MVP. Evancho is a Nursing major.

Holler is an outfielder from Akron Ellet. Holler hit .357 as a senior, with 25 hits and 34 RBI and was named first team All-City Series, Academic All-City Series and was Team Captain. She was named Academic All-City Series all four years. Holler is a Nursing major.

Hudnall is a first baseman from Akron Ellet. She hit .350 with 29 hits and 11 RBI as a senior and was named first team All-City Series and Academic All-City Series for four years. She was named honorable mention NEO Coaches Fastpitch Association as a senior and earned Ellet's Defense Award four times. Hudnall is a Biology major.

Lewis is a shortstop from North Olmsted. Lewis hit .392 as a senior and .451 her junior year. As a senior, she recorded 34 hits, 19 doubles and six triples. Lewis was named first team All-Conference four times, honorable mention All-County, All-District and Northeast Ohio Coaches Association. Lewis is a Physical Education major.

Patrick earned three letters from Cloverleaf. She was an Academic Award winner and second team All-Suburban League selection. Patrick will major in Physical Therapy.

Saunders is a outfielder from Highland. Saunders earned first team All-Suburban League, Medina County Gazette and was second team All-District. She hit .352 and compiled over 100 career hits. She also lettered in soccer and basketball. Saunders is a Nursing major.

Schmidt is a first baseman/outfielder from Jackson. Schmidt hit .341 as a junior and .309 her sophomore year and was named honorable mention All-Federal League. She also earned the Award of Merit, Presidential Award and Honors Diploma. Schmidt will major in Nursing.

Sherry is a pitcher from Parma Holy Name. Sherry rewrote the Holy Name Green Wave record book in pitching and hitting. Sherry was 17-10 as a senior, with a 1.08 ERA and 204 strikeouts and blasted a state-record 13 homeruns, while hitting .524. She was named second team All-State, first team NCL, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Sun Star. She was also the Plain Dealer's Cuyahoga County Player of the Year. Sherry is a Nursing major.

Spellacy is a second baseman from Brunswick. She hit .337 as a senior, with 30 hits, 21 RBI, nine doubles and three triples and compiled a .343 career batting average. Spellacy was first team Pioneer Conference, Medina County Gazette and honorable mention All-District. Spellacy is a Physical Therapy major.

Stanley is a shortstop from Windham. She hit .407 as a senior, with 37 hits, 28 RBI, five triples and three homeruns, while being named first team All-Portage County League, Best Offensive Player and Team MVP. She was also presented the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award, the OHSAA Courageous Student Award and the President's Educational Excellence Award. She is a liberal arts major.

The Cavs finished this past season 15-25 and 6-8 in the American Mideast Conference South Division. Walsh is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
