"Keller, Lindesmith Named to the NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Team"

Greg Keller (Sr., Napoleon, OH/HS) and Jason Lindesmith (Sr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) have been named to the NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Team. Keller, who also earned the honor last year, is finance major and carries a 3.51 grade point average. Lindesmith is a corporate communications major and carries a 4.00 GPA.

"Davis, Hess Earn Second Team All-AMC South/Six Cavs on Team"

Walsh placed six student-athletes on the All-American Mideast Conference South Division Team. The Cavs, who finished 8-7-2 overall and 2-4 in the AMC, placed two players on the second team and four on the honorable mention team.

Aaron Davis (So., Blackburn, England/Darwen Vale) and Jeremy Hess (Sr., Damascus, MD/St. Johns) were named second team, each for the first time. Davis, a forward, played in all 17 games and had three goals and three assists for nine points. Hess, also a forward, played in every game and totaled three goals and four assists for ten points.

Alex Birtcher (Jr., Napoleon, OH/HS), Dan Harlan (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Green), Ben Pflum (Jr., Napoleon, OH/HS) and Lamar Skeeter (Fr., Dayton, OH/Fairmont Kettering) were each named honorable mention. Birtcher played in all 17 games and was second in scoring with 17 points, on six goals and a team-leading five assists. Harlan, one of the Cavs fine defenders, played in every game and had one goal and one assist. Pflum, the Cavs' keeper, played in 16 of 17 games and fashioned a 1.87 goals against average. Skeeter, a flashy forward, led the Cavs in goals (11) and scoring (25). He leads the AMC with five-game winning goals, and is third in scoring and goals per game.

"Cavs Close Season"

Walsh (8-7-2, 2-4 AMC S) closed the season with an overtime tie at Malone College, and a home loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Cavs finished fifth in the American Mideast Conference South Division and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2003.
Walsh and Malone (6-9-2) played to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Malone on Wednesday. After a scoreless first half, Malone scored just minutes into the first half to take the lead. Walsh's Aaron Davis (So., Blackburn, ENG/Darwen Vale) then scored on an assist from Jeremy Hess (Sr., Damascus, MD/St. Johns) to tie the game at the 49-minute mark. Each team missed golden chances to take the lead in the final two minutes. Walsh hit the post and crossbar with less than two minutes to play, while Malone failed on an opportunity right in front of Cavs' keeper Ben Pflum (Jr., Napoleon, OH/HS) in the final minute.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University (11-5-2, 2-3-1, AMC S) tallied twice in the second half, in handing the Cavs a 2-0 conference loss on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, MVNU's Sheldon Tugman gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead at the 50-minute mark. The Cougars then added an insurance goal at the 89-minute mark. Walsh out shot the Cougars 7-5. Corner kicks were even at 3-3. Walsh keeper Chad Ostrowski (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) had three saves.

Lamar Skeeter (Fr., Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) is third in the AMC in scoring, averaging 1.47 points per game and second with 0.65 goals per game. Skeeter led the Cavs in goals with 11 goals and points with 25 points. He also leads the AMC in game-winning goals with five. Alex Birtcher (Jr., Napoleon, OH/HS) finished second with six goals, a team leading five assists and 17 points.

"MVNU Blanks Cavs in Season Finale"

Mount Vernon Nazarene University (11-5-2, 2-3-1, AMC S) tallied twice in the second half, in handing the Cavs a 2-0 loss in the Walsh's season finale tonight. The Cavs end the season 8-7-2 and 2-4 in the American Mideast Conference South.

After a scoreless first half, MVNU's Sheldon Tugman gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead at the 50-minute mark. The Cougars Scott Spangler added an insurance goal at the 89-minute mark. Walsh out shot the Cougars 7-5. Corner kicks were even at 3-3. Walsh keeper Chad Ostrowski (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) had three saves.

"Walsh/Malone Play to 1-1 OT Tie"

Walsh (8-6-2) and Malone (6-9-2) played to a 1-1 double overtime tie today at Malone. After a scoreless first half, Malone scored just minutes into the first half to take the lead. Walsh's Aaron Davis (So., Blackburn, ENG/Darwen Vale) then scored on an assist from Jeremy Hess (Sr., Damascus, MD/St. Johns) to tie the game at the 49-minute mark. Each team missed golden chances to take the lead in the final two minutes. "Cavs Fall 5-1 at Rio Grande"

(Rio Grande, OH) Walsh (8-6-1, 2-3 AMC South) fell 5-1 at the University of Rio Grande (9-4-1, 5-0 AMC S) tonight. The Redmen scored twice in the first half in the win. Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) tallied Walsh's lone goal late in the second half. The Redmen out shot the Cavs 12-4.

The Cavs are back in action on Wednesday, at Malone College, for a non-conference game at 3:30 pm and tehn host Mount Vernon Nazarene in an AMC South contest on Saturday (7 pm).

"Early Goals Result in Road Win at Daemen"

Walsh (8-5-1) scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game, and then held on for a 3-2 non-conference win at Daemen College this afternoon. The Cavs are back in American Mideast Conference South Division action on Saturday, when they travel to the University of Rio Grande for a 7 pm start.

Casey Eck (Jr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) gave the Cavs the a 1-0 lead, on an assist from Dan Harlan (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Green), two minutes into the game. Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) then scored at the five minute mark, on an assist from Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) and Alex Mogilnicki (Sr., Lakemore, OH/Springfield). Jeremy Hess (Sr., Damascus, MD/St. Johns) closed the scoring for Walsh at the 22-minute mark of the half with an unassited goal. Daemen scored twice in the second half, on a penalty kick at the 72-minute mark, and again at the 84-minute mark. Walsh out shot the Wildcats 14-4.

"Cavs Win at Urbana to Keep Post Season Hopes Alive"

(Urbana, OH) Walsh (7-5-1, 2-2 AMC S) kept its post season hopes alive with a 3-1 American Mideast Conference South win at Urbana University (2-8-2, 0-3 AMC S) today. The Cavs will travel to Daemen College on Tuesday for a 3:30pm start. On Saturday, the Cavs will play at the University of Rio Grande in an AMC South Division matchup at 7:00pm.

Clint Merck (Fr., Randolph, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) scored from Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/ Fairmont) at the 14:00 minute mark of the first half to give Walsh a 1-0 lead. Urbana tied the game at 1-1, with just three minutes to left in the half, on a goal from AJ Grove. Casey Eck (Jr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) gave the Cavs the lead for good, at the 58-minute mark, on an assist from Merck and Aaron Davis (So., Blackburn, ENG/Darrwen Vale). Walsh would add an insurance goal, when Skeeter scored eight minutes later, on an assist from Eck and Davis. Walsh out shot the Blue Knights 12-3. Cavs' keeper Ben Pflum (Jr., Napoleon, OH/HS) had two saves.

"Cavs Blanked Twice, Look to Rebound at Urbana"

Walsh (6-5-1, 1-2 AMC S) was shutout twice last week, 1-0 in a non-conference game by Seton Hill University, and 3-0 in an American Mideast Conference South game by NAIA No. 11 Ohio Dominican University on Saturday. This week, the Cavs play one game, at Urbana University (2-7-2, 0-2 AMC S) on Saturday at 2 pm. The Cavs are tied for fourth place in the South, and need a win to keep their post season hopes alive.

Seton Hill's Tom Bennett scored on penalty kick with ten minutes left in regulation; to give the Griffins a 1-0 win over the Cavs last Wednesday. Walsh out shot the visitors 11-8 and led in corner kicks 9-4. Walsh keeper Ben Pflum (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) had seven saves.

NAIA No. 11 Ohio Dominican University (10-1, 1-0 AMC S) scored three second half goals, on their way to 3-0 victory. The Panthers led 2-0, when the lights went out with 11:20 to play. After a 20-minute delay, play resumed and ODU scored on a penalty kick to close the scoring. The Panthers opened the scoring eight minutes into the second half on a goal by Shan Wade. Wade then scored three minutes later to give ODU a 2-0 lead. Peter Fink tallied the final ODU goal. The Cavs were out shot 17-9.

Lamar Skeeter leads the Cavs in scoring with ten goals and 21 points. Alex Birtcher is next with 13 points, on four goals and five assists. Keeper Ben Pflum has a 1.78 goals against average.

"Ohio Dominican Hands Cavs 3-0 AMC South Loss"

NAIA No. 11 Ohio Dominican University (10-1, 1-0 AMC S) scored three second half goals, on their way to 3-0 American Mideast Conference South Division win over Walsh (6-5-1, 1-2 AMC S) tonight. The Panthers led 2-0, when the lights went out with 11:20 to play. After a 20-minute delay, play resumed and ODU scored on a penalty kick to close the scoring.

"Cavs Fall on Penalty Kick"

Walsh will host Ohio Dominican University in an American Mideast Conference South match-up at 7 pm on Saturday night.

"Late Goals Edges Cavs at Cedarville"

(Cedarville, OH) Cedarville's Ryan Lustig scored at the 83:05 mark to give the Yellow Jackets (4-5-1, 1-0 AMC S) a 2-1 American Mideast Conference South Division win over the Cavs (6-3-1, 1-1 AMC S) tonight. After a scoreless first half, Walsh's Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) gave the Cavs a 1-0 lead at the 54:15 mark on an assist from Camden McCreary (So., Massillon, OH/Jackson/Toledo). It took Cedarville less than three minutes to tie the game, when Ken Davis scored on a header at the 57:05 mark. Lustig then snapped the tie, with the game-winner, with a little less than seven minutes to play. Walsh out shot the Yellow Jackets 8-5.

"Skeeter Scores Both Goals in 2-1 OT Win Over Marietta"

Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/ Kettering Fairmont) scored both of Walsh's (6-2-1) goals in a 2-1 overtime over Marietta College (4-1-1) tonight. Skeeter scored at the 20-minute mark of the first half to give the Cavs a 1-0 lead. The lead held, until Marietta's Alan Porter tied the game at 59-minute mark. Skeeter then scored the game-winner, on an assist from Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS), eight minutes into the first overtime.

Walsh out shot Marietta 12-5 and led in corner kicks 5-2. Cavs keeper Ben Pflum (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) had four saves.

Walsh is at Cedarville University on Saturday for an American Mideast Conference South Division game.

"Cavs Rout Shawnee State 5-1 in AMC South Opener"

Walsh (5-2-1, 1-0) opened their American Mideast Conference South schedule with a 5-1 win over Shawnee State (4-4, 0-1) tonight. Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) and Jeremy Hess (Sr., 6-3, Damascus, MD/St. Johns) each scored twice in the win.

Skeeter opened the scoring at the eight minute mark to give the Cavs a 1-0 lead. Hess then made it 2-0 at the 13-minute mark. Each goal was unassisted. Skeeter then extended Walsh's lead to 3-0, on an assist from Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) at the 24-minute mark, as Walsh led 3-0 at the half. Shawnee's Jordan Buck scored eight minutes into the second half, as the Bears trimmed the lead to 3-1. Hess would then score his second goal, on an assist from Aaron Davis (So., 6-0, Blackburn, ENG/Darwen Vale) at the 62-minute mark. Greg Keller (Sr., 6-0, Napoleon, OH/HS) closed the scoring for the Cavs, with an unassisted goal at the 70-minute mark.

"Cavs, Houghton Battle to 1-1 OT Tie"

(Houghton, NY) Walsh (4-2-1) and Houghton (3-0-3) battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie tonight. Walsh's Aaron Davis (So., 6-0, Blackburn, ENG/Darwen Vale) opened the scoring on an unassisted goal at the 28-minute mark of the first half. Houghton's Aaron Martin tied the game nine minutes into the second half. In a evenly matched game from start to finish, each team had nine shots and each goalie recorded eight saves (Walsh, Ben Pflum's (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon), (Houghton, Erik Lefebrve). Walsh led in corner kicks 5-4.

The Cavs open American Mideast Conference South Division play, at home, on Saturday against Shawnee State at 7 pm.

"Skeeters' Goal Gives Cavs OT Win at Saint Francis"

(Ft. Wayne, IN) Lamar Skeeter's (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) overtime goal gave Walsh (4-2) a 3-2 overtime come-from-behind win over the University of Saint Francis (2-4-1) today. Skeeter scored at the 102:16 mark on an assist from Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) to give Walsh the win. For Birtcher, it was his second assist of the day.

Birtcher opened the scoring in the first period, with an unassisted goal at the 23:12 mark. USF's Brad Lohman then tied the game at the 32:32 mark. Loham then gave USF the lead at the 73:07 mark, on an assist from Nick Fowler. Walsh's Aaron Davis (So., Blackburn, ENG/Darwen Vale) then tied the game on Birtcher's assist at the 77:33 mark.

Walsh out shot USF 9-5 and led in corner kicks 7-4. Keeper Ben Pflum's (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) had four saves in goal.

"Men's Soccer Falls 3-2 at Grace"

(Grace, IN) Grace College (2-3-1) scored three first-half goals, and held on for a 3-2 over the Cavs (3-2) today. The loss was the second straight for Walsh. Ryan Gerber scored twice and Charles Lee tacked on Grace's other score, as they tallied at the two, four and 14-minute marks of the first half. Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) scored Walsh's first goal, on an assist from Clint Merck (Fr., Randolph, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas), at the 35-minute mark of the first half, as Walsh trailed 3-1 at haltime. Walsh's Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) scored an unassisted goal in the second half. Walsh outshot Grace 22-5 and led in corner kicks 6-0.

The Cavs play at the University of Saint Francis (IN) at 1 pm tomorrow.

"Cavs Suffer First Loss, 2-1 in OT to Bethel"

Walsh (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, losing 2-1 in overtime to Bethel College this afternoon. Walsh opened the scoring on a goal from Dan Harlan (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Green) at the 38-minute mark of the first half, on an assist from Alex Mogilnicki (Sr., 6-1, Lakemore, OH/Springfield). Bethel tied the game seven minutes into the second half, and won it four minutes into overtime. Walsh out shot Bethel 11-5, and had six corner kicks to Bethel's five. Ben Pflum's (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) had three saves in goal.

Walsh is at Grace College on Saturday and at the University of Saint Francis (IN) on Sunday.

"Cavs Extend Win Streak to Three"

Walsh (3-0) improved to 3-0, after defeating John Brown University (AR) last Friday. The Cavs were participating at John Brown in a tournament, and were scheduled to play Oklahoma City University on Saturday, until torrential rains forced the cancellation of the game. This week, Walsh plays host to Bethel College on Tuesday and at Grace College on Saturday and at the University of Saint Francis (IN) on Sunday.

Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) had the "Hat-Trick" (three goals) in Walsh's 3-1 win over John Brown. Skeeter scored twice in the first half (7:02, 23:02), on assists from Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) and Jeremy Hess (Sr., 6-3, Damascus, MD/St. Johns). His second half goal was assisted by Hess again, 29:44 into the half. John Brown spoiled Ben Pflum's (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) shutout bid with their only goal at the 82:58 mark of the second half. Pflum had eight saves.

Skeeter leads the team with four goals and nine points. Casey Eck (Sr., 6-1, North Canton, OH/Hoover), who missed Friday's game due to injury, is second with three goals and six points. Cavs' keeper, Ben Pflum has a 1.33 goals against average.

"Weather Cancels Day Two of Classic at John Brown"

Flooding has caused day two of the JBU Fall Soccer Classic to be cancelled. John Brown was scheduled to play Hastings (Neb.) College at 3 p.m., and Oklahoma City was scheduled to play Walsh University at 12:30 p.m.

The amount of rain in the past two days has caused playing conditions to become hazardous to the athletes, and each coach agreed to cancel the contests.

The games will not be rescheduled.

"Skeeter Has Hat-Trick in 3-1 Win over John Brown"

(Siloam Springs, AR) Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) had the Hat-Trick (three goals) in Walsh's 3-1 win over John Brown today. The win improved the Cavs record to 3-0. Skeeter scored twice the first half (7:02, 23:02), on assists from Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) and Jeremy Hess (Sr., 6-3, Damascus, MD/St. Johns). His second half goal was assisted by Hess again, and came 29:44 into the half. John Brown spolied Ben Pflum (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) shutout bid with their only goal at the 82:58 mark of the second half. Pflum had eight saves.

Walsh meets Oklahoma City University at tomorrow at 12:30 pm.

"Eck Named AMC Offensive Player of the Week"

Walsh University's Casey Eck (Sr., 6-1, North Canton, OH/Hoover) has been named the American Mideast Conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Eck scored twice in Walsh's 3-2 win over Siena Heights University on Saturday and scored the game-tying goal in the Cavs 2-1 overtime win over Roberts Wesleyan on Friday night.

"Cavs Win Late Again"

Alex Mogilnicki's (Sr., 6-1, Lakemore, OH/Springfield) goal with 90 seconds to play lifted Walsh (2-0) to a 3-2 win over Siena Heights in the final game of the Subway/Comfort Inn Classic at Walsh. The Cavs won their first game of the season on Friday one-minute into overtime.

Mogilnicki's game-winner came on a restart. Siena Heights led 1-0 in the first half, when Walsh's Casey Eck (Sr., 6-1, North Canton, OH/Hoover) tied the game on an unassisted goal. Eck gave Walsh a 2-1 in the second half on an assist from Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont). Siena Heights tied the game at the 84-minute mark.

The Cavs play in the John Brown University Tournament next weekend.

"Cavs Open 37th Season With OT Win"

Walsh's Lamar Skeeter (Fr., 5-10, Dayton, OH/Kettering Fairmont) scored one-minute into overtime to give the Cavs a 2-1 win over Roberts Wesleyan in the Subway/Comfort Inn Soccer Classic held at Walsh. Jeremy Hess (Sr., 6-3, Damascus, MD/St. Johns) and Alex Birtcher (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon, OH/HS) assisted on the winning goal. Femi Arogundade gave Roberts Wesleyan a 1-0 lead just 1:30 in the game. The visitors held the lead until the 81-minute mark, when Casey Eck (Sr., 6-1, North Canton, OH/Hoover) tied the game on an assist from Corey Dekker (Jr., 6-1, Mansfield, OH/Lexington). Walsh out shot Roberts 15-6 and five corner kicks to Wesleyan's 2. Ben Pflum (Jr., 6-1, Napoleon) stopped four shots in goal for the Cavs.

The Cavs meet Siena Heights at 7 pm on Saturday night.

"Soccer Opens 37th Season at Home"

Walsh (0-0) opens its 37th season at home, as they host the Subway/Comfort Inn Classic this weekend. Walsh opens the season with Roberts Wesleyan on Friday night at 8 pm, then play Siena Heights on Saturday at 7 pm. The Classic opens with Ohio Dominican playing Siena Heights on Friday at 6 pm. On Saturday, Roberts Wesleyan meets Ohio Dominican at 5 pm.

Veteran Coach Tim Mead (272-187-29) brings back 18 letter winners from his 11-6-1 playoff team of 2006. The Cavs also return eight starters. This will be Mead's 26th year on the bench.

"Walsh to Host Subway/Comfort Inn Classic"

Walsh University, in conjunction with Subway and the Comfort Inn, will host the Subway/Comfort Inn Classic on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. The four-team classic will feature Ohio Dominican University, Roberts Wesleyan University and Siena Heights University. Ohio Dominican and Siena Heights will play the first game on the 31st at 6 pm, followed by Walsh and Roberts Wesleyan at 8 pm. On Saturday, Roberts Wesleyan and Ohio Dominican play at 5 pm, followed by Walsh and Siena Heights at 7 pm.
