"Andy Schon Signs Pro-Contract With Washington Wild Things"

Walsh University senior right-handed pitcher Andy Schon (Akron, OH/Coventry) has signed a contract with the Washington Wild Things (Washington, PA) of the Frontier League. Schon will make his debut at home tonight (7:05 pm), against the Rockford River Hawks.

Schon's final year at Walsh was his best, as he finished 9-5 with a 3.11 ERA. Schon set single season marks in strikeouts (101) and innings pitched (101.1), in leading Walsh to its first-ever appearance at the NAIA College World Series. Schon was a first-team American Mideast Conference North Division selection. He won his final three starts in leading Walsh to the NAIA Region IX and NAIA Super Regional Championships. Schon defeated top seeded Mount Vernon Nazarene University in the first game of the NAIA Region IX Tournament 3-1, allowing only four hits, while fanning 11 with only one walk. In his next start, in the first game of the NAIA East Coast Super Regional, he defeated Fisher College 4-1 scattering eight hits and fanning a career-high 13. In his last outing, he won 3-2 against St. Thomas University in the first game at the NAIA College World Series, scattering nine hits, striking out ten and walking only one. His last three outings were all complete games.

Schon finished as Walsh's career leader in strikeouts (267), inning pitched (294) and appearances (55). His 20 wins are tied for second all-time.

"Cavs Eliminated at NAIA College World Series"

(Lewiston, Idaho) Tenth-seeded Walsh (29-30) was eliminated by Houston Baptist (TX) (42-20) in the ninth game of the Avista-NAIA World Series today at Harris Field. The Cavs lost 10-5. Houston Baptist scored three runs in the first inning and two more in the second, to force the Cavs to play catch-up. Walsh's five runs came in the final three innings. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) (6-6) started for the Cavs and was charged with the loss.

Leadoff hitter Ryan Majewski hit a pair of home runs and scored four times to help Houston Baptist University remain alive in the 51st annual Avista NAIA World Series with a 10-5 win over Walsh University in a loser-out game on Monday.

The start of the contest was delayed an hour because of rain, but the later start had little effect on Majewski, who clobbered the game's fourth pitch for a home run.

HBU (42-20) hit three home runs early in the contest to take a 5-0 lead after two innings. The lead was as big as 9-0 in the seventh before HBU starting pitcher Matt Weible ran out of gas and Walsh (29-30) made things interesting. Weible made it to the ninth before being replaced. He gave up 12 hits and three earned runs. He also struck out five and walked one.

HBU grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning. After Majewski's home run, Greg Gossett singled and Andrew Taccolini hit a two-run home run to left field.

A couple of errors hurt Walsh in the second inning as two throwing errors and a wild pitch helped HBU to a 5-0 lead.

Majewski made it 6-0 in the fifth when he again led off the inning with a home run. He finished 3-for-3 in the contest with two RBI and four runs scored.

Michael Crabtree's three run double in the seventh made it 9-0.

Walsh picked up its first run in the seventh on an RBI single by Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) , but HBU countered with a run in the top of the eighth when Majewski doubled and scored on a single by Chad Hebert.

Walsh picked up three runs in the eighth when Greg Miller (Sr., Dover, OH/HS) doubled in two runs and scored on a single by Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) . A double steal allowed Walsh to score a run in the ninth.

Gossett finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored for HBU, while Hebert was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) went 3-for-5 with a run scored for Walsh, while Suliks went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Houston Baptist, making its first appearance in the Series as was Walsh, moves on in the tournament to play at either 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. on Tuesday in another loser-out game. Pairings for Tuesday won't be completely set until the final game on Monday.

"Cavs Lose Lead Late, Fall 8-5 to Spring Arbor"

(Lewiston, Idaho) Tenth-seeded Walsh (29-29) lost for the first time since May 5, when they fell 8-5 to second seeded Spring Arbor University (46-3) in the seventh game of the Avista-NAIA World Series today at Harris Field. With the loss, Walsh moves into the elimination portion of the bracket Monday, taking on Houston Baptist (Texas) at 8:30 a.m. (11:30 am OHIO TIME), while Spring Arbor continues its season against Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) in Monday's late game.

Spring Arbor (Mich.) starter Brad Hinkle (14-0) threw a complete game, giving up five runs on 12 hits with three strike outs, as the Cougars dispatched Walsh (Ohio) 8-5 in the seventh game of the 2007 Avista-NAIA World Series Saturday at Harris Field in Lewiston.

Walsh fell behind early but scored five runs over the game's middle three innings to take control. However, Spring Arbor managed to score the final five runs of the game in the eighth and ninth innings to come away with the three-run win.

Following a scoreless seventh, Spring Arbor got a one-out single from John Schaible to begin the eighth, followed by a hit batsman and an error that loaded the bases for the second-seeded Cougars. Eric Vojtkofsky lifted a sacrifice fly ball into right field to score Schaible, and on the throw both runners moved up a base.

With first base open, Jeff Hollister drew a walk to re-load the bases, followed by Jeff Tebeau's single through the right side that, paired with a Walsh fielding miscue, cleared the bases for three Cougar runs, leaving Spring Arbor up 6-5 after seven-and-a-half.

The Cougars added two more in the ninth, crossing on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, and Brad Hinkle closed the complete game by retiring three-straight after allowing the first two Cavaliers of the ninth to reach.

Walsh starter Kyle Lynn (Sr., Massillon, OH/ Tuslaw)tossed 6.1 innings of three-run, nine-hit baseball, carding six strike outs and walking five. Chris Norris finished the final 2.2, taking the loss for the Cavaliers to fall to 5-5 on the season. Hromada went 3-for-3 in the game for the Cavaliers, while Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) each finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Pettigrew also drove in a pair of runs in the loss.

Spring Arbor opened scoring in the third, getting back-to-back one-out singles before a Bachman triple down the right field line plated Matt Coulter and Schaible to put the Cougars on top 2-0. Bachman would come home a batter later, when Brad Baker picked on right field again for an RBI single to extend Spring Arbor's lead to 3-0.

Walsh got a lead-off double from Pettigrew to start the bottom of the fourth, and after a pop-up recorded the first Cavalier out of the inning, Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) came through with another double, pushing the ball to left center to score Pettigrew for the first Walsh run of the game.

Down 3-1, the Cavaliers got a one-out single to center to start the fifth from Campbell, and the Walsh shortstop moved to third when Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) laced a single into right. Both Campbell and Indorf would score a batter later, as Pettigrew got his second extra-base hit of the game, sliding in for a triple to left center that tied the game at 3-3.

Walsh grabbed the lead in the sixth, starting as it did in the fifth with a one-out single when Jeff Nicholas slapped an offering through the right side. Catcher Tim Hromada (Fr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) followed with another single, and Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) moved home the first run of the inning with a third-straight hit that scored Nicholas to take a 4-3 lead. Hromada, who moved to third on the play, was replaced by Matt Marshall (Jr., New boston, OH/Glenwood) as a courtesy runner on the basepath, and Marshall scored on an RBI ground-out by Mark Kelly (r-Fr., Norton, OH/HS) a batter later to extend the lead to 5-3.

"Cavs Edge St. Thomas 3-2, Advance in NAIA College World Series"

(Lewiston, Idaho) Walsh (29-28) continues its miracle run, defeating St. Thomas (FL) (46-15-1) 3-2 in their first game at the NAIA College World Series. With the win, the Cavs stay in the winner's bracket and will meet second seeded Spring Arbor University (45-3) at 6 pm (Ohio time) tomorrow. The Cavs played Spring Arbor in their season opener, and lost 3-2 in Kentucky in February.

The win was the seventh in a row for the streaking Cavs and vaulted them over the .500 mark (29-28) for the second time this season. St. Thomas struck first, when Angel Hernandez homered over the right field fence in the first inning to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. They would score only one more run against Walsh starter Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry). The Bobcats went ahead 2-0 in the sixth, when they scored on a fielder's choice. The eighth inning was the big inning for the Cavs. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) led-off with a single to center and advanced to second on an infield hit to third base by Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington). The Cavs then loaded the bases on a single to left-center field by Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson). Walsh scored its first run, and cut the St. Thomas lead to 2-1, when relief pitcher Osmar Chaviano walked Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount), to force in Campbell. After Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) fanned, Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry) singled down the right field line, scoring both Indorf and Matt Marshall (Jr., New Boston, OH/Glenwood) (pinch ran for Pettigrew) to give the Cavs their first lead at 3-2. The rest was in the hands of Schon, as the retired six of the last seven hitters, for his ninth win of the season. It was his third straight complete game, and the third straight game in which he fanned at least ten. His ten strikeouts gave him 101 on the season and 34 in the last three games.

"Cavs (28-28, 9-7 AMC N) Headed to NAIA College World Series/Meet St. Thomas (FL) in First Game"

Walsh is headed to the NAIA World Series. The Cavs completed their miracle post-season sweep, winning the best of three series with Fisher College two-games to none. Walsh will make their first-ever appearance at the Series, when they meet St. Thomas (FL) at 8:30 am (PST) on Friday. All games in the double elimination tournament are being played at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. Walsh is the number ten seed in the ten team tournament. St. Thomas (46-14-1) is the number seven seed. St. Thomas lost (18-0) to Lee University (TN) in the Atlantic South Super Regional Championship, but received the second at-large berth to the tournament. The winner of the Cavs/St. Thomas game plays on Saturday at 3 pm (PST) against second seeded Spring Arbor University (MI) (45-3). Spring Arbor won the Heartland Super Regional with a two-game sweep of St. Ambrose. Walsh and Spring Arbor met in the regular season in Kentucky, in February, with Spring Arbor winning 3-2. The loser of the Walsh/St. Thomas game plays at 12 pm (PST) on Saturday against the loser of the Lewis-Clark (ID) (53-5)/Lee (50-13) game. Walsh enters the NAIA World Series on a six-game win streak.

With his 13 strikeouts, he became Walsh's all-time single season leader with 91. Walsh took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, when Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, Oh/HS) led off with a double and scored on a one out double by Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS). Indorf then scored when Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Walsh added their third run in the fourth, when Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) led off with a single, stole second, and scored on a double play ball. Fisher's only run came in the fifth, when Carlos Alvarado singled and scored on a two-out hit by Evan Tardugno. Walsh's final run came on a solo homerun in the seventh inning by Kelly.

"Pairings Announced, Cavs Play First Game at World Series"

The pairings have been announced for the NAIA College World Series, and Walsh (28-28) plays the first game of the double-elimination tournament against St. Thomas (FL) (46-14-1) at 8:30 AM (PST) on Friday in Lewiston, Idaho. St. Thomas lost (18-0) to Lee University (TN) in the Atlantic South Super Regional Championship, but received the second at-large berth to the tournament. The winner plays at 3 pm (PST) on Saturday against Spring Arbor University (MI) (45-3). Spring Arbor won the Heartland Super Regional with a two-game sweep of St. Ambrose. "Cavs Complete Miracle Run/Now Headed to College World Series"

Walsh (28-28) has completed its miracle run, and are headed to the NAIA College World Series after defeating Fisher College (33-16) 4-3 to win the best of three East Coast Super Regional two games to none. Walsh closed the regular season with seven straight losses, before winning the NAIA Region IX Tournament in four games. Walsh will be making its first trip ever to Lewiston, Idaho (May 25-June 1) for the double elimination tournament. They enter the World Series on a six-game winning streak.

Walsh jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) reached base on an error and then scored on an error. "Cavs Beat Fisher 4-1, One Win From College World Series"

Behind the pitching of Andy Schon (Sr., Coventry, OH/HS), Walsh (27-28) is just one win away from reaching the NAIA College World Series, after defeating Fisher College (33-15) 4-1 in the NAIA East Coast Super Regional today. Walsh can wrap-up the best of three series, and first trip to the World Series, with a win tomorrow. Game time is 11 am at Walsh.

Schon (8-5) fanned 13, and scattered eight hits in winning his eighth game of the season. With his 13 strikeouts today, he is also Walsh's all-time single season leader with 91. "Cavs (26-28, 9-7 AMC N) Win NAIA Region IX Tournament/Two Games From NAIA College World Series/Bob Feller to Throw Out First Pitch on Thursday"

Walsh (26-28) is two games away from their first appearance at the NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho (May 25-June1). Walsh will host the NAIA East Coast Regional this Thursday and Friday. The only thing between the Cavs and Lewiston is Fisher College (MA). Fisher (30-14) won the Region X title by defeating St. Joseph College 10-3, while the Cavs completed a miracle run at the NAIA Region IX Tournament to win their first regional championship. The teams play a best 2-3 series, starting next Thursday at 2 pm. Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Feller will throw out the first pitch on Thursday. The second game is on Friday at 11 am. A third game, if necessary, would follow.

Walsh entered the regional tournament on a seven-game losing streak, and as the final seed (#6). The Cavs started the tournament with a 3-1 win over top seed Mount Vernon Nazarene. Right-hander Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) fanned 11 in the win. Walsh then remained in the winners bracket with a 4-2 win over Malone College. Kyle Lynn (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) started, and pitched 6.2 innings in picking-up the win. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) retired the final two batters to earn the save. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) homered in the win.

The Cavs then put their hitting shoes on for the final two games. Walsh reached the championship game with an 11-9 win over Ohio Dominican University. In winning their first three games, Walsh had beaten opponents in which they had an 0-8 mark against in the regular season. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) started and lasted 6.2 innings for the Cavs. Alan Frame (Jr., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) worked the final 1.1 innings to pick-up the win. Walsh snapped a 9-9 tie in the ninth when Mike Suliks tripled down the right field line to drive in the go-ahead run. The Cavs then added an insurance run. Shortstop Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) was 5-6 and DH Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) was 3-4 with 3 RBI. Walsh banged out 20 hiis against ODU pitching. In the title game, the Cavs erased a 3-0 first inning Mt. Vernon Nazarene lead to win 10-8. Walsh trailed 4-3 in the fourth inning, when they scored three times to take the lead for good. Pettigrew had four hits, and two RBI and third baseman Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had three hits. Klick enters the East Coast Regional on a nine-game hitting streak. Walsh had 16 hits against Cougars pitching. Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) (6-4) pitched eight strong innings for the win. He allowed six runs, but only four earned, and only two runs after the first inning.

Catcher/Designated hitter Rollin Matsui was named first-team All-American Mideast Conference North Division at designated hitter. Matsui hit a team-leading .402, with two home runs, 25 RBI, and a team-best .464 slugging percentage. Andy Schon also earned first team honors. Schon, who set a career strikeout mark (244) this season (78), is 7-5 with a 3.46 ERA. He is also two K's shy of setting a single season mark. Schon also leads Walsh with 83.1 innings pitched and six complete games. Schon was also named to the All-AMC/Region IX Rawlings Gold Glove Team.

The Cavs placed four players on the second team All-AMC North squad. First baseman Jason Pettigrew, second baseman Mike Suliks, left fielder Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) and pitcher Mike Dougherty. Pettigrew is hitting .341, with nine doubles and a team-leading 39 RBI. Suliks hit .349, with five doubles and 19 RBI. Indorf, who hit safely in 18 games this season, is batting .309 with five doubles, three triples, four homeruns and 19 RBI. Dougherty finished second with six wins and five complete games. Chad Campbell, centerfielder Mark Kelly (R-Fr., Norton, OH/HS) and pitcher Andrew Tighe (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Moeller) were named honorable mention. Campbell hit .335 in 54 games with five doubles. He led the team with 60 hits. Campbell, also the Cavs closer, had six saves in eight games. Kelly is hitting .377 in 45 games. Tighe, a left-hander, who works out of the bullpen, was 1-1 in 14 games.

"Cavs Host Fisher College in East Coast Regional"

Walsh (26-28) is two games away from their first appearance at the NAIA College World Series (Lewiston, Idaho). The only thing between the Cavs and Lewiston is Fisher College (MA). Fisher won the Region X title by defeating St. Joseph College 10-3 yesterday. The teams play a best 2-3 series, starting next Thursday at 2 pm. The second game is on Friday at 11 am. A third game, if necessary, would follow. Fisher comes to North Canton with an overall record of 30-14.

"Miracle Cavs Beat Mt. Vernon 10-8 to Win NAIA Region IX Championship/Host East Coast Regional Next Week"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) Sixth seed Walsh (26-28) has won its first NAIA Region IX Championship, by defeating top seeded Mount Vernon Nazarene 10-8 today. The Cavs beat the Cougars twice in the tournament, and will now host the NAIA East Coast Regional next week. The Cavs will host the Region IX winner, with the winner of the two out of three series advancing to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, May 25-June 1. Walsh has never advanced to the World Series.

Mount Vernon scored three runs in the first inning off of Walsh starter Chris Norris, but would only score twice more in the next seven innings off of Norris. Walsh chipped away with a run in the second and then tied the game with two runs in third. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson), who was 4-4 with two RBI, singled in Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) to cut the lead to 3-2 and Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) scored on ground ball to tie the game at 3-3.

Mount Vernon regained the lead with a run in the fourth at 4-3. It would be their final lead of the day. Walsh scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) doubled home the tying run (4-4), and Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) drove in the go-ahead run with a ground out. The Cavs sixth run came on sacrifice fly by Indorf.

The Cavs held the 6-4 lead until the eighth inning, when the Cougars scored their final run off of Norris to cut the Cavs lead to 6-5. Walsh would then answer with four big runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-5 lead into the ninth. Pettigrew and Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) each had run scoring singles in the eighth, and Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) squeezed in a run with bunt. The Cavs would need the insurance runs, as the Cougars scored three times in the ninth against closer Chad Campbell.

Indorf, Pettigrew and Matsui each drove in two runs. Klick was 3-4 and Kelly, Campbell, Indorf and Suliks each had two hits. Norris was the winner, allowing eight hits and five runs in seven innings.

"Cavs to Meet Mount Vernon in Region IX Title Game"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) Sixth seed Walsh (25-28) will meet top-seeded Mount Vernon Nazarene (37-13) for the NAIA Region IX Championship, at approximately 1:30 pm today. The Cougars advanced to the championship game by eliminating Ohio Dominican University 8-4 today. The Cavs need only to win one game to win their first regional title. The Cougars must beat the Cavs twice in order to win the region championship. Walsh beat Mount Vernon 3-1, in the first game of the tournament on Tuesday. The winner advances to the NAIA Super Regional next week (16-19).

"Cavs Advance to Region IX Title Game"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) The game featured 36 hits, 20 runs and plenty of excitement. And when the smoke and runs had cleared, sixth seeded Walsh (25-28) was headed to its first ever NAIA Region IX Championship game, after defeating second seeded Ohio Dominican University 11-9. The win was the third straight for the Cavs in the tournament and keeps them in the winners bracket heading into day three of the double elimination tournament. The Cavs are one win away from winning the Region IX Title, and heading to the Super Regional next week. Walsh plays at 1 pm on Thursday, against the winner of the Mount Vernon Nazarene/Ohio Dominican game, which will be played at 10 am.

Walsh scored in eight of the nine innings, and took a 1-0 lead on a Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) single in the top of the first inning. The Panthers then scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning off of Walsh starter Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) to take a 3-1 lead. They would add a single in the second, and led 4-1 after two innings.

Walsh would then score in each of the next seven innings. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) singled in the third to cut the lead to 4-2 and Matsui drove in a run on fielder's choice, and Walsh trailed 4-3. With Dougherty settling down, the Cavs tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS).

Walsh would regain the lead in the top of the fifth, when Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry) singled home Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson), giving the Cavs a 5-4 lead. They would extend the lead to 6-4 in the sixth, when Suliks scored on a one out single by Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside). The Cavs would add another run in the seventh, and take a 7-4 lead, when Matsui scored on a ground out by Tim Hromada (Fr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan). Ohio Dominican would score two unearned in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Walsh lead to 7-6, and chasing Dougherty. Dougherty lasted 6.2 innings and allowed six runs, four earned on 10 hits.

Walsh added two runs in the eighth inning, when Pettigrew doubled home Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) and Matsui singled in Pettigrew. The Panthers then rallied, and scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 9-9. Walsh then scored for the seventh consecutive inning, when they tallied twice in the ninth. Hromada smashed a single up the middle with one out, and then came home on Suliks triple down the right field line to put Walsh back on top 10-9. The Cavs then added an insurance run on Kelly's sacrifice fly to center. The Panthers had the tying runs on base in the bottom of the ninth, but had the rally stopped on a 5-3 double play to end the ball game.

Chad Campbell went 5-6 and scored two runs. Mark Kelly had three singles, scored twice and had a sacrifice fly. Pettigrew had two hits and a RBI, and Suliks had two hits and two RBI. Alan Frame (Jr., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) pitched the final 1.1 innings to pick-up the win (2-6). Walsh banged out 20 hits.

Walsh entered the tournament on a seven-game slide, and were 0-8 against the three teams that they have beaten; Mt. Vernon Nazarene (0-2), Malone (0-4) and Ohio Dominican (0-2).

"Cavs Stay in Winners Bracket/ Beat Malone"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) Walsh (24-28) remained in the winners bracket of the NAIA Region IX Tournament after beating Malone College 4-2. The Cavs next game is a 1 pm on Wednesday, against the winner of the Ohio Dominican/Geneva game. The Walsh game will be broadcast live on AM 900 WCER at 12:55 pm.

Kyle Lynn's (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) pitched 6.2 innings to pick-up the win against the Pioneers, with Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) retiring the final two batters to earn the save. Walsh tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the second inning and took the lead for good with a run in the fourth. They added two insurance runs in the seventh. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two hits, including a homerun.

"Cavs Meet Malone, Again"

(Mount Vernon, OH) Sixth seeded Walsh (23-28) and fourth seeded Malone (23-25) are going to meet again. After losing four straight games to Malone last week to close the regular season, Walsh gets a crack at the Pioneers again in NAIA Region IX Tournament. Walsh advanced to the winners bracket after upsetting top seeded Mount Vernon Nazarene 3-1 this morning. They now meet Malone, who faces elimination after falling 8-6 to third seeded Ohio Dominican. Game time is scheduled for 4 pm.

"Cavs Stun Cougars 3-1/Schon Pitches Gem"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) Behind the four-hit pitching of senior Andy Schon (Akron, OH/Coventry), sixth seeded Walsh (23-28) stunned top seeded Mount Vernon Nazarene (34-13) 3-1 in the first game of the NAIA Region IX Tournament. The Cavs play next at 4 pm, against the loser of the #3 Ohio Dominican (38-11)/#4 Malone (23-24) game.

Walsh opened the scoring in the first inning. Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) led off with a single, was sacrficed to second on Chad Campbell's (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) bunt, and reached third base on wild throw to first. Kelly then scored on a ground ball out by Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson). The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the third, and the game remained tied until the seventh inning. Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) led off, and reached second base when Cougar right fielder Kodi Veale dropped his fly ball. Klick advanced to third on a single by Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry). Walsh then took the lead on throwing error on a ground ball off the bat of Duston Walter (Fr., Malvern, OH/HS). The Cavs then added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS). Schon then completed the gem by retiring the final six hitters for the win to improve to 7-4. He fanned a season-high 11 and walked only a batter. Walsh's career leader in strikeouts now has totaled 244.

"Cavs (22-28, 9-7 AMC N) Hope to Right Ship in NAIA Region IX Tournament"

Last week did not go as planned for the Cavs' (22-28. 9-7 AMC N) Baseball Team. Walsh entered the week in first place in the American Mideast Conference North Division with four games to play. By the time the smoke had cleared, the Cavs had lost all four games to Malone, dropping them to third place in the conference. The Cavs lost the four games 5-1, 7-1, 4-0 and 10-7. The Cavs now look to break a season-long seven-game slide against Mount Vernon Nazarene University (34-12, 19-5 AMC S) on Tuesday at 10 am in the double-elimination NAIA Region IX Tournament, held at Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon beat the Cavs 12-4 and 11-1 in the regular season. The official bracket will be released sometime today.

The only bright spot in the losses to Malone came on Thursday, in game one of the AMC N doubleheader, when Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) became the Cavs all-time strikeout leader. Schon fanned nine, and has totaled 233 career K's, passing the mark of 229 held by Jeff Paul. He is also the all-time leader in innings pitched with 267.1. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) had his career-best 18-game hit streak snapped in game one at Malone on Saturday, when he went 0-3. He promptly started a new streak with a homerun in the nigth-cap. Indorf is hitting .325 and has a .406 on base percentage. Indorf leads team in at-bats (163), runs scored (36), hits (53) and extra base hits (12).

Catcher/Designated hitter Rollin Matsui is hitting a team-leading .407. Matsui has two home runs, 20 RBI, and a team-best .474 slugging percentage. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) leads the team with 34 RBI and eight doubles. He is hitting .325. Freshman second baseman Mike Suliks (Norton, OH/HS) is hitting .337, with five doubles and 15 RBI. Shortstop Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) is hitting .323, and is second to Indorf with 52 hits and 35 runs scored. Andy Schon leads the staff in innings pitched (74.1), strikeouts (67), and has a 3.87 ERA, which is second to Kyle Lynn's (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) 3.65 ERA. Schon and Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) are tied for team lead in wins with six.

"Cavs Fall Twice at Malone"

Walsh (22-28, 9-7 AMC N) fell twice at Malone (23-24, 11-5 AMC N) today. The Cavs dropped game one of the AMC North doubleheader 4-0, then lost 10-7 in the nightcap. The Cavs lost all four games to the Pioneers and have dropped their last seven games. Walsh will be at Mount Vernon Nazarene for the NAIA Region IX Tournament, which starts on Tuesday. The tournament bracket will be released on Monday.

Walsh managed just six hits in game one, Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) started for the Cavs and was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on ten hits in 5.1 innings. In game two, Malone led 5-4 in the fifth inning when they scored five runs to take a 10-7 lead. Walsh would score three runs in the seventh, but it would not be enough. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) homered and Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massilon, OH/Jackson) had three hits and three RBI. Chris Norris (Jr., Massilon, OH/Jackson) started and was tagged with the loss. Norris allowed seven runs on eight hits in four innings.

"Malone Explodes late in Game Two, Sweeps Cavs"

Malone (21-24, 9-5 AMC N) snapped a 1-1 tie with six runs in the final two innings, on their way to a 7-1 win in the second game of an AMC North doubleheader. Malone also won the first game, 5-1. Walsh (22-26, 9-5 AMC) looks to snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday, when the two teams meet in a 1 pm doubleheader at Malone's Bob Starcher Field. The two teams are tied for the AMC North lead.

"Cavs Fall 5-1 to Malone in Game One/Schon All-Time K Leader"

Malone (20-24, 8-5 AMC N) scored four runs in the fifth inning, aided by a three-run homerun over the right-centerfield fence, in winning game one of an AMC North doubleheader 5-1. Andy Schon (Sr., Coventry, OH/HS) started and was charged with loss, falling to 6-5. Schon fanned fanned nine in the loss and became Walsh's career leader with 233. Walsh's (22-25, 9-4 AMC N) only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Malone added an insurance run in the seventh.

"Cavs (22-24, 9-3) Lead AMC North Heading into Final Week/Indorf Hit Streak at 16 Games"

Walsh's (22-24, 9-3 AMC N) championship fate is in their own hands, as they enter the final week of the regular season. With two AMC North doubleheaders to play, Walsh leads second place Geneva College (8-4 AMC N) by one-game and third place Malone College (7-5) by two games. Walsh will play rival Malone at home on Thursday and at Malone on Saturday. Both doubleheaders begin at 1 pm. Geneva has four games remaining with Point Park University this week. The Cavs enter the final week of the regular season on a three-game skid.

The Cavs lost both ends of a doubleheader at NAIA 13th ranked Ohio Dominican University (34-8) on Saturday, 7-5 and 4-2. Ohio Dominican scored five runs in the fourth inning of game one, to wipe out a 5-2 Cavs lead in a 7-5 triumph. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) (6-4) lasted 3.1 innings and was tagged with the loss. Left fielder Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Washington) had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. Centerfielder Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) had two hits and two RBI. Andy Schon (Sr., Coventry, OH/HS) (6-4) took the loss in game two. Indorf again had two hits and has hit safely in 16 games.

Cavs (22-22, 9-3) Even Mark

Walsh won five of seven non-conference games last week to even their overall record at 22-22. The Cavs have only been .500 twice, at 21-21 and 22-22. At one point, they were actually one game over .500 (22-21), after winning the first game of a doubleheader against Urbana University. The Cavs are still in second place in the American Mideast Conference North Division with a 9-3 mark. Walsh plays one non-conference doubleheader this week, on Saturday at Ohio Dominican University.

The Cavs scored 73 runs last week. After losing 11-6 at Mount Union College, the Cavs took four straight games from Myers University. Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) drove in three runs and Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) two runs in a 15-3 win at Myers on Friday. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) was the winning pitcher and improved to 6-3. In game two, the Cavs hammered Myers 14-3. Kyle Lynn (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) improved to 2-1 in picking-up the win. Klick and Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) each drove in three runs and Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) was 3-3. Walsh then swept Myers 12-2 and 9-4 at home on Saturday. Andy Schon (Sr., Coventry, OH/HS) was the winner, and is 6-3. Schon and Dougherty are tied for the staff lead in wins. Pettigrew had three hits, Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) had three hits and two RBI, and Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry) homered. In game two, Pat Conley (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) had three hits and Derek Gordon (Sr., Brampton, ONT/Centennial) drove in two runs. Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) started and picked-up the win to improve to 5-3. Walsh and Urbana split, by identical 10-7 scores. Pettigrew drove in three runs and homered in the opener, which Walsh won. Conley also homered and Tim Hromada (Fr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) had three hits and three RBI. Steve Weirich (Fr., Minvera, OH/HS) started and earned his first collegiate victory. Conley homered in game two and Ryan Indorf (Sr., Massillon, OH/Washington) drove in three runs in the nightcap.

Rollin Matsui is hitting a team-leading .414. Matsui has two home runs, 20 RBI, and a team-best .557 slugging percentage. Jason Pettigrew leads the team with 31 RBI and six doubles, and is hitting .328. He drove in 10 in Walsh's seven games last week. Walsh is now hitting .303 as a team. Mike Dougherty has a team-best 3.40 ERA and Andy Schon leads the staff in innings pitched (63.1) and strikeouts (55).

"Cavs/Urbana Split 10-7 Games"

For the first time this season, the Walsh University (22-22) Baseball Team was over the .500 mark. After winning game one of a non-conference doubleheader 10-7 against Urbana University, the Cavs were one-game over at 22-21. But when the day ended, they were even-up again, after dropping game two 10-7.

Game one had plenty of contributors. Starting pitcher Steve Weirich (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS) went 5.1 innings to pick-up the win. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) worked the seventh inning to earn the save. Tim Hromada (Fr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) had three hits, including a double that cleared the bases, and gave the Cavs the lead for good in the home half of the sixth inning. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) slugged a two-run homerun and Pat Conley (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) had three hits, including a homer, and three RBI. Walsh fell behind 10-0 in game two, before rallying with five runs in the fifth, and two more in the sixth. The Cavs actually had the bases loaded, and the go-ahead run at the plate in the sixth. Conley homered again and drove in two runs, and Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) drove in three runs.

"Cavs Sweep Myers, Reach .500"

Walsh swept Myers University today 12-2 (5) and 9-4, and reached the .500 mark at 21-21. The Cavs took four straight non-league games from Myers over the weekend. Andy Schon (Sr., Coventry, OH/HS) pitched a complete game victory in the first game of a twin bill. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) and three hits and a RBI and Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) had three singles and two RBI. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside), Duston Walter (Fr., Malvern, OH/HS) and Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) each had two hits. Mike Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) worked five innings to earn the win in game two. Pat Conley (Sr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) had two doubles and a single and Derek Gordon (Sr., Brampton, ONT/Centennial) doubled, singled and drove in two runs. Suliks had two hits and a RBI and Campbell again had two hits. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) also singled, doubled and drove in a run.

Walsh will host Urbana University in an non-league doubleheader at 1 pm tomorrow.

"Bats Come to Life in Sweep of Myers"

(Cleveland, Oh) Walsh (19-21) scored 29 runs in a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Myers University today. The Cavs routed Myers University 15-3 in five innings, in game one of the doubleheader, and then 14-3 in five innings of game two. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) was the starter and winner in the opener, and is 6-3. Walsh scored in every inning and scored eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Third baseman Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two hits, and three RBI and catcher Tim Hromada (Fr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) had three hits, including a two-run homerun in the first inning. Center fielder Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) had two RBI and Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) had a homerun. Kyle Lynn (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) earned his second win of the season in game two. Lynn went the distance and fanned five. Second baseman Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) was 3-3, Kade Klick was 2-4 with three RBI, and Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) was 2-3 with three RBI.

Walsh will host Myers on Saturday in a twinbill at 1 pm.

"Cavs Fall at Mt. Union"

(Alliance, OH) Walsh (17-21) lost 11-6 at Mount Union College today. After Walsh scored four in the first inning, the Purple Raiders rallied with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two hits and two RBI for the Cavs and Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had two hits and a RBI. Cavs (17-20, 9-3) Second in AMC North

Walsh won three of out four games American Mideast Conference North Division games last week, and stand 9-3 in the conference heading into this week. The Cavs, 17-20 overall, play seven non-league games this week. Walsh plays a single game at Mount Union on Thursday, and then play at Myers University on Friday and home to Myers on Saturday. Both are doubleheaders. Walsh then plays two games at home with Urbana on Sunday. John Carroll postponed a trip to Walsh on Wednesday due to a conference make-up.

Walsh split four games with Seton Hill University last week. Kyle Lynn (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) returned to action, and picked-up the win on Monday. Lynn suffered multiple injuries in March after being hit by a ball in practice. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed only one run on four hits in Walsh's 5-2 win. Andy Schon (Sr., Coventry, OH/HS) pitched a complete game victory in the first game of a twin bill against Seton Hill on Tuesday. Schon was backed by a seven-run fourth inning in the 9-3 win. He tossed a six-hitter and fanned six. Designated hitter Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and second baseman Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) was 3-3 with two RBI.

Walsh won three out of four AMC North games with Point Park on Friday and Saturday. Walsh routed the Pioneers 14-2 in five innings in game one on Friday at home. The Cavs scored five runs in the first inning and seven in the third. Shortstop Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) was 4-4 with a double and first baseman Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) was 3-3 with two doubles and three RBI. Suliks homered and drove in four runs. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) started for the Cavs and picked-up the win and is 5-3. Campbell saved both ends of the doubleheader at Point Park on Saturday. Schon (5-3) started and went 6.0 innings to earn the win, with Campbell working the seventh. Campbell also drove two of Walsh's runs in the 6- 3 win. Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) went six innings and earned the win in game two. Norris is 4-3 on the year. Campbell worked the seventh to earn his fourth save.

Rollin Matsui is hitting a team-leading .404. Matsui has two home runs, 15 RBI, and a team-best .544 slugging percentage. Jason Pettigrew leads the team with 21 RBI and five doubles, and is hitting .314. Dougherty and relief pitcher Andrew Tighe (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Moeller) have posted the lowest ERA on the team at 3.38. Schon is next at 3.45. He also leads the team with 52 strikeouts.

"Cavs Sweep Point Park/Campbell Saves Both Games"

(Pittsburgh, PA) Walsh (17-20, 9-3 AMC N) swept both ends of an American Mideast Conference North twinbill at Point Park University (12-11, 3-5 AMC N) today, 6-3 and 8-6. Shortstop/closer Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) saved both games for the Cavs. Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) was the winning pitcher in game one, working six innings and allowing all three runs. He fanned six. Campbell was just as big at the plate for the Cavs as he was on the hill, driving in two runs. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS), Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) each had two hits. Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) was the winner in game two. Indorf and Suliks each had two RBI, while Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had three hits and a RBI.

The Cavs are home for a non-conference single game against John Carroll University on Wednesday.

"Cavs/Point Park Split"

Walsh (15-20, 7-3 AMC N) split an American Mideast Conference North Division twinbill with Point Park University (12-9, 3-3 AMC N) today. The Cavs won game one in five innings 14-2, but fell 4-3 in game two. The two teams meet in Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Walsh banged out 16 hits in the opener, led by Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS), who had a homer, two singles and four RBI. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) had four hits and a RBI and Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two doubles, scored three runs, and drove in three runs. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) started and picked-up the win. Kyle Lynn Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) was the victim of three solo home runs in the sixth inning of game two. Walsh lost despite out hitting the Pioneers 12-7. Pettigrew had two hits and Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had three hits and a RBI.

"Cavs Split With Seton Hill for Second Straight Day/Mead Wins 500th Game"

For the second straight day, Walsh (14-19) split a non-conference twinbill with Seton Hill University (21-12). With the win in game one, Tim Mead won his 500th game as head coach of the Cavs. Mead, in his 24th year as baseball coach, has an all-time record of 500-546.

Walsh used a seven-run fourth inning to win game one 9-3. Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) hit a grand slam in the fourth inning. "Cavs Split With Seton Hill"

Walsh (13-18) split a non-conference twinbill with Seton Hill University (20-11) today. Seton Hill won the opener 5-4, with Walsh taking the nightcap 5-2. The Cavs are at Seton Hill for two games tomorrow. Seton Hill went to the NAIA World Series last year.

Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) was charged with the loss in game one. Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had a two-run home run and a single in the loss. Kyle Lynn (Sr., Massillon, OH/Tuslaw) made his first start of the season in game two and picked-up the win, going 5.2 innings. Lynn scattered four hits and allowed only one run and a walk. Lynn was out after being hit by a ball in the face in practice in early March. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) had two hits and a RBI and Mark Kelly (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) had a double and RBI.

"Cavs Swept at Mount Vernon"

(Mt. Vernon, OH) Walsh (12-17) dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Vernon Nazarene today. The Cougars took game one 12-4, and game two 11-1.

Mount Vernon scored ten runs in the sixth inning of the opener to erase a 4-2 Walsh lead. Walsh starter Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) was charged with the loss. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) gave the Cavs the lead with a three-run homerun in the first inning. In game two, Mount Vernon chased Walsh starter Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) with five runs in the second, to snap a 1-1 tie, on their way to a 11-1 win.

Cavs Sweep Notre Dame, Lead AMC North

Walsh (12-15, 6-2 AMC N) won five out of six American Mideast Conference North Division games last week, and now leads the division by two games.The Cavs current five-game win streak is their longest of the season.This week, the Cavs play three non-conference doubleheaders.The Cavs are at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday, are home to Seton Hill on Thursday and at Seton Hill on Saturday.

After dropping the first game (8-1) of a double header at Geneva College on Monday, Walsh bounced back with a 9-1 win in game two. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) scattered four hits in the complete game win.Catcher Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had three hits and drove in two runs. Right-fielder Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) had three hits and a RBI and third baseman Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two RBI.

"Cavs Sweep Falcons Again"

For the second straight day, Walsh (12-15, 6-2 AMC N) has swept an American Mideast Conference South twinbill from Notre Dame College (8-14, 1-7 AMC N). The Cavs have won their last five game, which is their longest win streak of the season. Walsh came from behind to win game one 8-5, and then completed the four-game sweep with a 7-3 victory in game two. The Cavs are at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Tuesday for a non-conference double header at 1 pm.

Walsh rallied from a 5-1 deficit to win game one 8-5. Notre Dame committed four costly errors to open the door for the Cavs. Mike Suliks (Fr., Norton, OH/HS) had two hits and a RBI, but it was Kade Klick's (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) squeeze bunt in the bottom of the sixth that gave the Cavs the lead for good. Andrew Tighe (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Moeller) came on in the relief for the second time this week to pick-up a win. Tighe came into the game in fourth inning, and pitched the rest of the way in earning his first win of the season.

Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) went six strong innings in the nightcap to pick-up the win. He is 4-2 on the season. Matt Mahek (Sr., Shelby, OH/HS) finished up for the Cavs working the seventh inning. Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/HS) hit a long solo homerun for the Cavs. He also drove in another run. (South Euclid, OH) Walsh (10-15, 4-2 AMC N) rallied from a seven-run deficit in game one to win 8-7, then blanked Notre Dame College (8-12, 1-5 AMC N) 12-0 in six innings in game two, to take an American Mideast Conference North doubleheader. The same two teams play at Walsh at 1 pm tomorrow.

Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had a big day for the Cavs, going 7-8 in the two games. Pettigrew had four hits and a RBI in game one to spearhead the Cavs comeback. "Cavs Split at Geneva"

(Beaver Falls, PA) Walsh (8-15, 2-2 AMC N) and Geneva College split an American Mideast Conference North doubleheader today. Walsh dropped game one 8-1, but bounced back to win the nightcap 9-1. The Cavs are idle until Friday, when they play at Notre Dame College (1 pm) in an AMC twinbill. Notre Dame then returns the favor on Saturday at 1 pm.

Geneva jumped on Walsh starter Alan Frame (Jr., Atwater, oH/Waterloo) for seven runs in the first inning of the opener. Frame was charged with the loss. Andrew Tighe (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Moeller) relieved Frame in the first, and pitched outstanding ball the rest of way allowing only a run. Walsh put their hitting shoes on in game two, banging out 13 hits in the 9-1 romp. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) went the distance to pick-up the win. He allowed only four hits, while fanning seven. Rollin Matsui (Sr., Thornhill, ONT/Westmount) had three hits and two RBI and Tim Hromada (Fr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) had two doubles, a single and a RBI. "Cavs Fall 6-4 to B-W"

Walsh (7-14) committed seven errors in a 6-4 loss to Baldwin-Wallace College today. After falling behind 3-0, the Cavs scored two runs in the fifth inning, and two more in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. B-W snapped the tie with a single run in the eighth, and then added an insurance run in the ninth. Kyle Stull (Fr., Medina, OH/Highland) took the loss in relief.

"Cavs Split AMC North Twin Bill With Geneva"

Walsh (7-13, 1-1 AMC N) opened the home season, and American Mideast Conference North season with a doubleheader split with Geneva College today. Walsh took the opener 11-3, but fell 5-3 in the nightcap. The two teams will meet at Geneva, for another AMC North twinbill, on Monday at 2 pm. Walsh is home to Baldwin-Wallace College in a nine inning single game tomorrow at 1 pm. There will be a seven-inning JV game following the varsity game.

Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) went the distance in game one to pick-up the win, and even his record at 2-2. Schon fanned nine and scattered seven hits. He received a big six-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Third baseman Kade Klick (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two hits and four RBI and outfielder Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry) blasted a three-run home run, and drove in four runs. In game two, the Golden Tornadoes hit a three-run first inning home run off of Walsh starter Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson), and made it stand up in a 5-3 win. Norris settled down after the first inning, and went the distance in taking the loss. Designated hitter Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) doubled and drove in a run.

Cavs (6-12) Swept in Portsmouth, Open AMC North Play This Week

Walsh (6-12) looks to break a five-game losing streak, when they open American Mideast Conference North Division play this weekend. The Cavs play two doubleheaders with Geneva College. The Cavs open the home season with Geneva on Thursday (1pm) and then play at Geneva on Saturday (1 pm). Walsh is at Baldwin-Wallace on Sunday (1 pm) for a single game.

Walsh lost three one-run games at Shawnee State this past week. The Cavs lost 3-2 and 10-4 on Saturday, and then 2-1 and 3-2 on Sunday. The team has just not hit through the first 18 games, batting only .229. Shortstop Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) has been the Cavs most consistent hitter. Campbell is batting a team-best .327, with four multi-hit games and a team-best 11-game hitting streak. Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) is 1-2 in four starts, but has a sparkling 2.19 ERA. Schon worked six strong innings in Walsh's 3-2 loss at Shawnee on Sunday, but did not get a decision. Alan Frame (Jr., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) fanned nine, but was charged with loss at Shawnee State (3-2) on Sunday. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) went the distance, but was the losing pitcher in game two (3-2) on Sunday.

"Bears Sweep Cavs Again"

(Portsmouth, OH) For the second straight day, Shawnee State (7-3) swept Walsh (6-12) in a non-conference doubleheader. The Bears took two one-run games, 2-1 (9) and 3-2. The Cavs are now off until Thursday, when they open the American Mideast Conference North season at home, with Geneva College in a double header at 1 pm.

Alan Frame (Sr., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) went the distance in game one, which Walsh lost in nine innings. The Bears singled home the winning run with one out in the ninth. Frame fanned nine and scattered six hits. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) drove in Walsh's only run with a third inning single.

"Cavs Have Good Florida Trip"

After starting the season 0-4 in Kentucky, Walsh won six of ten games in Florida, and stand 6-8 on the season. Weather permitting; they hope to open the home season on Tuesday against Mount Union College in single game at 3 pm. This weekend they play back-to-back doubleheaders at Shawnee State University on Saturday and Sunday.

Walsh finished their Southern swing winning three of their final four games and reaching the championship game of the Warner Southern Tournament. After defeating Saint Ambrose (8-5), Thomas College (3-0) and Warner Southern (9-5), the Cavs lost the title game 10-5 to Bellevue University. The Cavs made quite a turn around from the previous spring, when they finished dead last in the tournament. The Cavs received some outstanding pitching performances on the trip. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) won twice, pitching a five hitter in a 7-4 win over Webber, and a complete game win with eight strikeouts against Warner Southern. Dougherty is 2-1, with a 2.84 ERA. Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) is 1-2, but has a team-best 2.41 ERA. Schon fanned nine in seven innings, in Walsh's 2-1 win over Siena Heights. He has fanned 19 in 18.2 innings. Freshman second baseman Paul Aslanides (Louisville, OH/HS) leads the team with a .346 average. Shortstop Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) hit .341 with 14 hits, while Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) leads the team with nine RBI.

"Bellevue Tops Cavs in Tourney Title Game"

(FL) NAIA No. 13 Bellevue University (12-5) defeated Walsh (6-8) 10-5 in the championship game of the Warner Southern Tournament today. Bellevue chased Walsh starter Kyle Stull (Fr., Medina, OH/Highland) with six runs in the first inning. Steve Weirich (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS) relieved Stull and fanned eight. Walsh managed just five hits. The Cavs finish their Florida trip 6-4.

(FL) Walsh (6-7) swept Thomas College (3-0) and Warner Southern (9-5) in a split double header today, to reach the championship game of the Warner Southern Tournament. The title apperance in the tourney is a first for the Cavs, after a last-place 2006 finish.

Walsh put Warner Southern away in the first inning with a seven-run output in their 9-5 win in game two. "Cavs Gain Split"

(FL) Walsh (4-7) gained a split at the Warner Southern Tournament today. The Cavs lost 8-3 to Bellevue (NE) in the first game, but bounced back to defeat Saint Ambrose, 8-5, in a split double header. Walsh plays Thomas College at 12:30 pm tomorrow, and then Warner Southern at 8:30 pm.

(FL) Walsh lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at Webber today, to fall to 3-6 on the season. Ryan Indorf drove in the Cavs only run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. "Cavs Fall 4-2 to Saint Ambrose"

(FL) Walsh (2-5) had it modest two-game win streak snapped 4-2 by Saint Ambrose today. The Cavs managed just five hits, with Alam Frame (Sr., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) taking the loss, and falling to 0-2. Saint Ambrose led 4-0, when Walsh tallied single runs in the sixth and seventh. Jeff Nicholas (Jr., Navarre, OH/Perry) had two hits and drove in one of the Cavs runs.

"Cavs Sweep Siena Heights/Campbell Saves Both Games"

(FL) Walsh (2-4) swept a doubleheader from Siena Heights today. The Cavs won the opener 2-1 in eight innings, and then won the nightcap 7-6. Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) drove in the winning run in the first game with an eighth innning single. Pettigrew had two hits for the game. Paul Aslanides (R-Fr., Louisville, OH/HS) had two hits and Ryan Indorf (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had a triple. Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) picked-up the win, to even his record at 1-1. Schon went seven innings, fanning nine and scattering five hits. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) worked the eighth to earn his first save of the year.

Chris Norris (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) was the winning pitcher in game two. Norris worked six innings and gave-up three runs on seven hits. Campbell worked the seventh to earn save number two. Matt Marshall (Jr., New Boston, OH/Glenwood) had two hits and Pettigrew drove in two runs.

Walsh plays a split twinbill tomorrow. The Cavs meet Saint Ambrose, at Warner Southern at noon, then play at Webber International under the lights at 7:30 pm.

"Cavs Drops Two"

(Campbellsville, KY) Walsh (0-4) lost twice in Kentucky today, 6-3 to Urbana University and 3-2 to unbeaten Campbellsville. The Cavs wrap-up their Southern swing in the Bluegrass state against Rio Grande at 10 am on Sunday.

Walsh could muster just five hits in their loss to Urbana. Alan Frame (Jr., Atwater, OH/Waterloo) fanned six, but took the loss. Paul Aslanides (R-Fr., Louisville, OH/HS) each had two hits and two RBI for the Cavs.

Against Campbellsville, the Cavs broke-up a perfect game with four consecutive singles in the bottom of sixth, in falling 3-2. Mike Dougherty (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) fanned five in taking the loss.

"Cavs Lose Second Game in Nine"

(Lindsey Wilson, KY) Walsh (0-2) lost the back end of their split doubleheader, falling 5-4 in nine innings to Lindsey Wilson. The Cavs trailed until the seventh, when they rallied for two runs to tie the game. Ryan Indorf's (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) pinch-hit single cut the lead the 2-1 and Matt Marshall's (Jr., New Boston, OH/Glenwood) double tied the game. Walsh took the lead in the eighth on a solo homerun by Derek Gordon (Sr., Brampton, ONT/Centennial), only to see Lindsey Wilson tie the game in the bottom of inning. Walsh would take the lead again in the ninth inning, this time on a solo shot by Mike Weibley (Fr., Mentor, OH/Lake Catholic), only to see Lindsey Wilson rally with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside) took the loss in relief for the Cavs.

Walsh meets Urbana and Campbellsville in a split twinbill on Saturday.

"Cavs Drop Opener 3-2"

(Lindsey Wilson, KY) Walsh (0-1) lost its season opener today, 3-2 to Siena Heights University. The Cavs play Lindsey Wilson later today. Andy Schon (Sr., Akron, OH/Coventry) fanned 10 in 5.2 innings, but was tagged with the loss. Chad Campbell (Jr., Ashtabula, OH/Lakeside), Derek Gordon (Sr., Brampton, ONT/Centennial), Jason Pettigrew (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Payl Aslanides (R-Fr., Louisville, OH/HS) each had two hits. Pettigrew drove in one of the Cavs runs with a double.
