"McKee 10th in 1,500m, Groholy 12th in Marathon/Four Earn NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete Honors"

Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge), Tim Geabler (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary), Andrew Schulz (Sr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) and Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) have been honored as NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athletes for the 2008 academic year. Geabler and Grohloly were also selected last year.

McKee finished 10th (3:57.25) in the 1,500m at the 57th Annual NAIA Track and Field Championships, May 22-24 at Ralph Korte Stadium in St. Louis, MO. Groholy was 12th in the marathon (2:33.42), Winnyk 37th (2:51.15) and Schulz 45th (3:01.28).

"Cavs to Send Four to Nationals"

Walsh will send four student-athletes to the 57th Annual NAIA Track and Field Championships, May 22-24 at Ralph Korte Stadium in St. Louis, MO. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge), Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary), Andrew Schulz (Sr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) and Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) will represent the Cavs.

McKee will compete in the 1500m, with Groholy, Schulz and Winnyk all competing in the marathon. McKee competed in the steeplechase the last two years, as did Groholy in the marathon, while Winnyk competed in the marathon last year.

"Cavs Do Well at Dalton Half Marathon"

Walsh performed well at the Dalton Half Marathon today, taking first, second and third. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) qualifed for the NAIA National Championships, with a first place finish and course record time of 1:11.01. Jon Winnyk (Jr., Strongsville, OH/Holy Name) placed second (1:15.57) and Andrew Schulz (Sr., Garaway, OH/Sugarcreek) third (1:17.37). Both are provisional qualifiers.

"Cavs 5th at AMC Championships/McKee Qualifies For Nationals"

Walsh finished fifth (82 pts) at the American Mideast Conference Track and Field Championships held yesterday and today at Malone College. Malone won the meet with 222 points. Cedarville University finished second (198) and Notre Dame College third (106).

Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) finished tied for first in the 1500m run (3:56.33) and qualified for the NAIA National Meet, and Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) placed second in the 5000m (15:32.42). The Cavs 4x100m relay team of Andrew Saris (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), Kevin Beichler (Fr., Smithville, OH/HS), Chris Weirtz (Fr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) and Jeff Tallman (So., Canton, OH/Perry) finished second (44.17). Andrew Saris (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS) finished fourth in the triple jump (40-00.50).

"Cavs Fourth After First Day at AMC Championships/Groholy 2nd in 10,000m"

Walsh is fourth (38 pts.) after the first day of the American Mideast Conference Track and Field Championships being held at Malone College. Saturday's events are scheduled to begin at 9:30 am. Malone leads the field with 61 points; Cedarville University is second (59) and Notre Dame College (46) third.

Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) placed second in the 10,000m (33:36.77).

"Cavs Second at Walsh Invitational"

Walsh finished a strong second at the first-ever Walsh University Invitational, held on Walsh's brand new track today. Walsh finished with 228 points, behind Malone College, who won the event with 283 points.

Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) the 5000m (15:44.67) and Andrew Saris (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS) took first in the triple jump (40'10").

Kevin Beichler (Fr., Smithville, OH/HS) placed second in the 100m (11.43), Chris Weirtz (Fr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) in the 400m (50.93), Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) in the 800m (2:00.60) and Saul Varga (Sr., Medina, OH/Highland) in the 400m hurdles (56.60).

"Cavs Finish Fourth at Wooster, McKee, Groholy Take Firsts"

Walsh finished fourth (80) at the College of Wooster Invitational today. Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) won the 1500m (4:07.71) and Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) the 5000m (15:37.80).

"Cavs Fourth at Muskingum Invitational/McKee, Beichler Take First Place Finishes"

Walsh finished fourth (88) at the Muskingum Invitational today. Ohio Wesleyan won the meet. Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) won the 1500m (4:10.08) and finished fourth in the 800m (2:04.83) and Kevin Beichler (Fr., Smithville, OH/HS) won the 100m (11.65). Beichler was also one fourth of Walsh's first place 4 x 100 team (45.65), which also included Jeff Tallman (So., Canton, OH/Perry), Tyler Pierce (So. Salem, OH/HS) and Chris Weirtz (Fr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve). Pierce also finished third in the high jump (5-10) and fourth in the triple jump (36-09.00) and Weirtz fifth in the 400m (52.85).

Chad Rankin (So. Salem, OH/HS) took second in the shot put (43-09.75) and Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) second in the 5000m (15:43.83). Andrew Saris (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS) also placed fifth in the long jump (18-04.50).

"McKee, Groholy Compete at NAIA Indoor Nationals"

Walsh's Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) and Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) competed today at the 43rd Annual NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, TN. Groholy finished 11th in his heat of the 3000m in a time of 9:04.99. McKee just missed advancing in the mile by .14, with his time of 4:22.73.

"Groholy, McKee Ready for Indoor Nationals"

Walsh's Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) and Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) are ready to compete in Johnson City, TN, in the upcoming 43rd Annual NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships this Thursday through Saturday. Groholy will compete in the 3000m and McKee in the mile.

"McKee Qualifies for Indoor Nationals in Mile/Groholy Sets Mark in 5000m"

Walsh's Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) has qualified for the upcoming indoor NAIA Nationals in the mile (4:20.63) at the Kent State University Tune-up today. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) set an indoor record in the 5000m (15:29.17), previously held by John Foland (1990). The 43rd annual championships will be held in Johnson City, TN March 6-8.

The Cavs took 3 first places finishes at the Kenyon College Invitational on Friday. The Cavs won the 4 x 200m relay in a time of 1.34.07. Kevin Beichler (Fr., Smithville, OH/HS), David Miller (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Andrew Saris (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS) and Chris Weirtz (Fr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) comprised the team. Tyler Pierce (So. Salem, OH/HS) won the high jump (6-01.25) and Chad Rankin (Jr., Newton Falls, OH/HS) the shot (48-07.25). Rankin missed qualifying for nationals by three inches.

"Cavs Finish 7th at Mount Union Invite"

Walsh finished 7th at the Mount Union College Invitational today. The host Purple Raiders won the event.

Brendan McKee (Jr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) finished second in the mile (4:27.52) for the Cavs top finish. Jerome Jackson (Jr., Euclid, OH/HS) was fourth in the weight throw (36-09.00); David Miller (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) was fifth in the 300m dash (37.97) and Chad Rankin (Jr., Newton Falls, OH/HS) placed fifth in the shot put (47-01.75).

" Men 3rd at Case Invitational"

Walsh finished third with 123 points at the Case Western Reserve Invitational. Case won the event with 152 points and Allegheny College placed second with 125 points. The Cavs are at Mount Union College on Saturday.

Chad Rankin (Jr., Newton Falls, OH/HS) and Chris Weirtz (Fr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) each earned first place finishes. Rankin won the shot put (47-04.50) and Weirtz the 400m (54.03). Tyler Pierce (So., Salem. OH/HS) finished second in the high jump (6-02.00) and triple jump (39-04.00) and third in the long jump (18-10.75). Kevin Beichler (Fr., Smithville, OH/HS) finished second in the 55m (6.81) and David Miller (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) second in the 200m (23.80).

Cavs 4th at Marietta, Groholy, Weirtz Place 1st

Walsh finished fourth (104 pts.) at the Marietta College Open on Saturday. Wheeling Jesuit College finished first with 177 points. Mike Groholy (Sr., Parma, OH/Valley Forge) and Chris Weirtz (Fr., Hudson, OH/Western Reserve) each won events for the Cavs. Groholy finished first in the 5000m (16:20.06) and Weirtz in the 500m (1:13.13). Tyler Pierce (So., Salem, OH/HS) finished second in the high jump (5-10.0) and Peter Manfredi (Sr., Euclid, OH/Cleveland Saint Joseph) second in the pole vault (11-06.25).
