"Cavs Fall to Union 5-2"

(Mobile, AL) Walsh (14-6) was eliminated from play at the NAIA Men's Tennis Championships, falling 5-2 to Union College (KY) (17-6) at the Mobile Tennis Center. The match was called when a team secured five points, due to play being suspended by rain on Tuesday. Walsh trailed 2-1 after doubles play, when rain halted play on Tuesday.

Pierre LaGrange (Jr., Durban, KwaZulu-Natal/Abbott's College), who posted the Cavs' doubles win with Jon Esber (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) on Tuesday, won 6-3, 6-3 at fifth singles for the Cavs only singles win.

"Cavs Trail Union 2-1 When Rain Halts Match"

(Mobile, AL) Walsh's match against Union College at the NAIA National Men's Tennis Championships has been halted due to rain, and will resume at 8 am tomorrow morning. The Cavs trail 2-1. Jon Esber (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and Pierre LaGrange (Jr., Durban, KwaZulu-Natal/Abbott's College) won 8-5 at number two doubles.

"Cavs Meet Union College at NAIA National Championships"

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially released the bracket for the 59th Annual NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship, held May 18 - 22 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala. The Championship is hosted by the Mobile Tennis Center, Spring Hill College (Ala.) and the University of Mobile (Ala.). Walsh (14-5) will meet Union College (Ky.) (16-6) the first match of the single elimination tournament on Tuesday, May 18 at 1 pm. The winner meets Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) (16-5) on Wednesday, May 18 at 1 pm. COMPLETE BRACKET

Defending National Champion Fresno Pacific (Calif.) earned the No. 1-seed and is making its fifth-consecutive trip to the national championship. The Sunbirds won their first title a year ago as the No. 3-seed, defeating Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) 5-3.

Walsh, winners of the American Mideast Conference Tournament, is making its eighth appearance since the tournament format started in 2000. The Cavs last appeared in 2007. Union College, the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament champion, is making its fourth straight appearance.

Mark Innes (So., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School) is 11-3 at number one singles and 1-0 at third singles. Jonathan Esber (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) is 9-8 at second singles. Diego Yung (So., Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires) is 13-2, mostly at third singles and 1-0 at first singles. Gary Innes (Jr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School) is 12-2, mostly at fourth singles. CJ Kugler (Jr., Dover, OH/HS) is 11-4, at fifth and sixth singles. Pierre LeGrange (Jr., Durban, KwaZulu-Natal/Abbott's College) is 11-1 and has won his last 10 single matches. He will most likely play fifth singles.

The Innes brothers are 13-5 at first doubles (not counting tournaments). Esber and LeGrange are 12-3 at second doubles. Kugler and Yung at 10-1 at third doubles with ten straight wins.

Mark Innes was named All-AMC in singles and doubles, with brother, Gary being named to the doubles team. Jon Esber was named to the singles and doubles team and Diego Yung was named to the doubles team. Head Coach Sherry Bossart was named AMC Coach of the Year.

Walsh has won nine of its last ten matches.

"Cavs Down UNOH to Win AMC Tournament; Clinch National Tournament Berth"

Walsh University (14-5) defeated the University of Northwestern Ohio (16-6) 5-2 today to win the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship, and the right to advance to the 59th Annual NAIA Championships, May 18-22, in Mobile, Alabama. For the Cavs, it will be their first championship appearance since 2007.

Walsh took the early advantage, winning two out of three double matches. The Cavs then won third, fifth and sixth singles to capture the crown, with Pierre Le Grange (Jr. Durban, Kwazulu-Natal/Abbott's College) clinching the match with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 win.

"Cavs Play UNOH in AMC Tournament Championship"

Walsh (13-5) meets the University of Northwestern Ohio (16-5) in the American Mideast Conference Tournament championship at 1 pm tomorrow at Walsh's Klekotka Tennis Complex. The Cavs bested the Racers 8-1 in the regular season. UNOH reached the championship match after dowing Roberts Wesleyan College 8-1 today.

The winner advances to the 59th annual NAIA Championships in Mobile, Alabama May 18-22. The Cavs last appeared at the national tournament in 2007.

"Cavs Down Grove City 8-1"

Walsh ended the regular season on top with an 8-1 victory over visiting Grove City College to improve to 13-5. The Cavs host the AMC tournament on Thursday and Friday and play in the championship match on Friday at 1 pm.

"Cavs Host AMC Title Match on Friday"

Walsh (12-5, 5-0) will host the American Mideast Conference Tournament, and will play in the championship match on Friday. The Cavs, the regular season AMC champs, play the winner of Thursday's Roberts Wesleyan College/University of Northwestern Ohio match at 1 pm on Friday, The winner advances to the 59th annual NAIA Championships in Mobile, Alabama May 18-22. The Cavs last appeared at the national tournament in 2007. The Cavs beat Roberts Wesleyan 6-3 in the regular season and Northwestern Ohio 8-1.

Ohio Northern University (11-2) snapped Walsh's (12-5) seven-match win streak, 5-4, in a non-conference match at Walsh today. The Cavs are back in action next Tuesday, at home, against Grove City College.

"Cavs Earn Impressive Win Over UNOH"

Walsh is now 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the American Mideast Conference with an impressive 8-1 win Tuesday over Northwestern Ohio. The Racers were previously unbeaten in the AMC and now fall to 13-4 overall and 2-1 in conference. Walsh will travel to Muskingum College on Thursday for a match at 4 p.m.

"Cavs Stay Hot, Unbeaten in AMC"

Walsh (8-4, 3-0) won two AMC matches last week to remain unbeaten in conference play. The Cavs blanked both Malone University and Cedarville University and have not lost a set in their three AMC wins.

The Cavs have a busy week, with four matches on the slate. The Cavs have two non-conference matches with Georgetown College (H) and Muskingum College (A) and two AMC matches with the University of Northwestern Ohio (H) and Roberts Wesleyan College (H).

Thursday's American Mideast Conference match between the Cavs (5-4, 0-0) and Notre Dame College has been moved to Walsh. The match was originally scheduled to be at Notre Dame. If the weatherman cooperates, the match will be outdoors at 3 pm. If there is rain, the match will be played at Hall of Fame Courts at 11:30 am.

"Cavs Play Well at Charleston Invitational"

Walsh played well at the University of Charleston Invitational over the weekend. This week the Cavs travel to Otterbein University for a match at 4 pm.

Diego Yung (So., Mar del Plata/Buenos Aires) posted three wins and won at number three singles, and was half of the Cavs third doubles team, along with Curtis Kugler (Jr., Dover, OH/HS) that also posted three wins. Pierre Rapula Le Grange (Jr. South Africa) won all three matches to win at fifth singles and reached the number two doubles final with Jonathan Esber before falling.

"Innes Brothers Split Final Matches at ITA Regional Doubles Championship"

Brothers Gary Innes (Jr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) and Mark Innes (So., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) split their final two matches at the National Small College ITA Championships today at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Complex in Mobile, Alabama. In their first match, Gary and Mark won 7-6 (8), 7-6 over Caio Claudino and Rodrigo Traldi of Lindenwood University. In the match for fifth place, the brothers fell 2-6, 1-6 to Melvin Prade and Vincius Santos of Martin Methodist.

"Gary, Mark Innes Meet Auburn Montgomery Pair in First Match at ITA Regional Doubles Championship"

Brothers Gary Innes (Jr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) and Mark Innes (So., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) will play Alberto Gonzalez and Michael Johnson from Auburn University at Montgomery in their first match at the National Small College ITA Championships this Thursday at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Complex in Mobile, Alabama. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm. If the Innes brothers win, they advance to Friday's 1:30 pm winner's bracket match. If they fall, they play on Friday at 1:30 pm in the loser's bracket. There are a total of eight doubles teams at the championships.

Mark and Gary won four matches at the Wilson /ITA Regional Doubles Championships, hosted by Cedarville University in late September. They defeated duos from Spring Arbor (8-4), Indiana-Southeast (8-1), the University of Northwestern Ohio (8-6) and from Taylor University (8-3) in the championship match.

"Gary, Mark Innes Capture ITA Regional Doubles Championship"

Brothers Gary Innes (Jr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) and Mark Innes (So., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) have captured the prestigious Wilson /ITA Regional Doubles Championships, hosted by Cedarville University this past weekend. The pair will now compete at the National Small College ITA Championships, October 15-18 in Mobile, Alabama.

Mark and Gary won four matches to capture the title. They defeated duo's from Spring Arbor (8-4), Indiana-Southeast (8-1), University of Northwestern Ohio (8-6) and Beldon/Reed from Taylor 8-3 in the championship match. The very competitive field featured 15 number one doubles teams from their respective schools.
