"Cofojohn, Morgan Selected Female, Male Athletes of the Year"
Danielle Cofojohn (Sr., Diamond, OH/Southeast HS) and Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley HS) have been selected as the 2009-10 Female and Male Athletes of the Year at Walsh University in a vote of university head coaches. The pair will be recognized at Walsh's first home football game on Saturday, September 4 vs. Kentucky Christian University at Fawcett Stadium (12 pm).
Cofojohn, a four-year letter winner in track, qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the shot put and discus. Danielle reached the finals in the discus and finished 19th and finished 13th in the shot. She was the American Mideast Conference champion in both events, with a throw of 42-06.75 in the shot and 139-04 in the discus. Cofojohn was ranked in the NAIA in the top six in the shot put. She also set a Walsh record in the shot, with a throw of 45-10.50.
Morgan, a two-year letter winner after transferring from the University of Illinois, gained national acclaim after winning the NAIA Indoor Championship in the long jump (25-06.75). The jump was also a Walsh indoor record. Morgan also earned NAIA All-American outdoor honors, with a second place finish, with a leap of 24-05.25. He was the top scorer at the American Mideast Conference Championships with 26 points, and set a new conference mark (24.01.50) in the long jump. He also won the 100m dash (11.13) at the conference meet. Joe won the long jump at 10 different indoor/outdoor meets and is the Walsh record holder in the event (24.03.75).
