Cavs Fourth at AMC Meet

Walsh (38-39) finished an impressive fourth place in the AMC cross country championships at Cedarville University today. Running away with the competition was Malone University, with Shawnee State University and Cedarville University a distant second and third, respectively.

Most of the Cavs runners were in a pack, with those earning team points finishing between 27th and 39th. Overall they finished between 36th and 52nd. Leading the way was Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) (27th) with a time of 27:52 and a pace of 5:37, followed immediately by teammate Matt Long (Sr., Mogadore, OH/HS) a second later (28th). Finishing third for the team was Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) (32nd) at 28:22. Fourth was Luke Immel (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) at 28:46 (36th) and fifth was Phil Kress (So., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) at 29:10 (39th). Also participating for the Cavs were Bob Fay (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) at 29:27 and Kevin Sellers (Fr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) at 30:15.

"Men XC Finish Fourth in Conference"

COMPLETE RESULTS

Walsh's men's cross country team finished an impressive fourth place in the AMC cross country championships in Cedarville today. Running away with the competition was Malone, with Shawnee State and Cedarville a distant second and third, respectively.

"Walsh Finishes Second in Final Home Meet"

COMPLETE RESULTS

The Walsh University men's cross country team finished second in their final home meet of the season in the Walsh Invitational. Their "A" team finished with a score of 58 points. Rival Malone easily took the event finishing with 19 points. Others in the race were Hiram College and Geneva College who tied for third with 91 points, Point Park who finished fifth with 122 points, and Walsh's "B" squad placing sixth with 154 points.

Matt Long (Sr., Mogadore, OH/HS) crossed the finish line first for the Cavs at 27:48 and seventh place overall. The rest of the first team wasn't too far behind with the Luke Immel (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) finishing second for Walsh with a time of 28:04, good for 13th overall. Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) finished third for the team and 15th overall with a time of 28:34. He was immediately followed by Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) at 28:45 and Phil Kress (So., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) at 28:50 to round out the team scoring at 16th and 17th overall. Also on running for the first squad was Adam Hrdlicka (Jr., Lakewood, OH/HS) finishing 19th overall with a time of 29:03.

The "B" team was led by Kevin Sellers (Fr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) with a time of 29:29, good for 21st overall. Following were Lukas Slipski (Fr., Canfield, OH/HS) at 29:53, Adam Stilgenbauer (Fr., New Philadelphia, OH/Tusky Central Catholic) at 30:43, Nick Reed (So., Wadsworth, OH/Hoban) at 31:29, and Caleb Stevanhajon (Fr., Manchester, OH/HS) at 32:55.

The cross country team will next compete at the AMC championships Saturday, Nov. 7 at Cedarville University with a scheduled start time of 9:30 a.m.

"Cavs 14th at Gettysburg Invitational/Host Invitational on Saturday"

COMPLETE RESULTS

Walsh (29-35) finished 14th at the 25-team Gettysburg College Invitational. Next Saturday at 11:45 am, Walsh will host the six-team 8K Walsh Invitational.

Luke Immel (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) paced the Cavs with a 69th place finish in a time of 28:37.6. Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 81st (28:52.14), Adam Hrdlicka (Jr. Lakewood, OH/HS) finished 86th (29:02.46), Matt Long (Sr. Mogadore, OH/HS) 87th (29:03.34) and Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) 94th (29:17.95).

"Cavs 8th at All-Ohio Meet"

(Delaware, OH) Walsh (18-22) finished eighth at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate championships, held at Ohio Wesleyan University today. Malone University won the division two race.

Jordan Johnson (So., Louisville, OH/HS) paced the Cavs with a 37th place finish in a time of 29:07.4. Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) was next at 45th in a time of 29:46.1. Dan Opeka (So., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 48th (30:05.8), Phil Kress (So., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished 49th (30:07.7), Matt Long (Sr. Mogadore, OH/HS) placed 52nd (30:24.2), Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) 55th (31:06.2) and Bob Fay (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) 56th in a time of 31:39.5). "Teams to Compete at All-Ohio Meet"

Walsh's men (15-15) and women (15-15) will compete at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships this Friday in Delaware, Ohio. The men's race will start at 2:45 pm, with women's race slated to start at 2 pm.Last year was the first time that the men did not run the race, while the women also missed the meet for the first time.

"Cavs 15th at National Catholic Invitational"

Walsh (15-15) finished 15th (344) in at field of 25 teams field at the National Catholic Cross Country Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday. Bellarmine University (43) won the Division II race. The Cavs are idle this week.

Leading Walsh was Jordan Johnson (So., Louisville, OH/HS) with a time of 27:36 and a 41st place finish. Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) was second for the Cavs with a time of 27:56 in the 56th spot. Dan Opeka (So., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) followed at 75th with a time 28:29, Phil Kress (So., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) 80th with a time of 28:34, and Matt Long (Sr., Mogadore, OH/HS) at 92nd with a time of 28:48. Also competing for Walsh were Bob Fay (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic), who finished 96th with a time of 28:55, and Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) at 104th with a time of 29:10.

"Men's Cross Country Participate in National Catholic Invite"

(South Bend, IN) The Walsh men's cross country team traveled to the University of Notre Dame yesterday to participate in the 2009 National Catholic Cross Country Invitational. In Division II, the Cavaliers (15-15) were able to come away with a 15th place finish out of 25 schools with a score of 344. Winning the entire event was Bellarmine University with a score of 43.

Leading Walsh was Jordan Johnson (So., Louisville, OH/HS) with a time of 27:36 and a 41st place finish. Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) was second for the Cavs with a time of 27:56 in the 56th spot. Dan Opeka (So., Lousville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) followed at 75th with a time 28:29, Phil Kress (So., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) 80th with a time of 28:34, and Matt Long (Sr., Mogadore, OH/HS) at 92nd with a time of 28:48. Also racing for Walsh were Bob Fay (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic), who finished 96th with a time of 28:55, and Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) at 104th with a time of 29:10.

"Men's Thinclads Take Second"

Walsh (5-1) opened the cross country season impressively with a second place finish in the second annual Ric Sayre Invitational Saturday morning. Mount Union (30) took first place honors. The Cavaliers (82) edged out Wooster (86) for runners-up.Fourth through seventh were John Carroll (130), Hiram (154), Lake Erie (167), and Roberts Wesleyan (193).

Jordan Johnson (So., Louisville, OH/HS) paced Walsh and finished eighth at the 27:04 mark. Brandon Wollenberg (Fr., Massilon, OH/HS) was the next Cav to cross at 27:07. Others scoring points for Walsh were Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/HS) at 16th (27:16) Bob Fay (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) 25th (28:15) and Matt Long (Sr., Mogadore, OH/HS) 30th (28:38).

Next Friday, the Cavs travel to South Bend, Indiana for the annual National Catholic Championships.

"Walsh to Host 2nd Ric Sayre Cross Country Invitational on Saturday"

Walsh University will host the second annual Ric Sayre Invitational this Saturday morning. The race features Cuyahoga Community College, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Mount Union College, Lake Erie College, Roberts Wesleyan College, Thiel College, Ursuline College and the College of Wooster. The women's race will start at 10 am and the men's race at 10:45 am. Both Walsh teams finished second last year. John Carroll won both the men's and women's race.

Sayre earned NAIA All-American status for Walsh in 1979 and 1980 and was a US National Champion in the marathon after leaving Walsh.
