Cavs 5th at AMC/Laughlin Earns All-AMC Honors

Walsh finished fifth (46-39) at the AMC championships held at Cedarville University on Saturday. Malone University won the AMC title.

The Cavaliers were paced by Katie Laughlin (So, Malvern, OH/Canton South) with a time of 20:14 and pace of 6:32, good for 21st. Laughlin was named honorable mention All-AMC. She was followed by Nicole Culler (So., Beloit, OH/West Branch) at 20:33 (24th). Other earning points for Walsh were Kim Swartz (Fr., Tiffin, OH/Tiffin Calvert) with a time of 20:48 (28th), Lissa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) 10 seconds later at 20:58 (31st), and Megan Case (Jr., Louisville, OH/HS) at 21:13 (34th). Also running for the Cavs were Amber Cross (Fr., Mineral Ridge, OH/HS), who finished at 21:48, and Emily Depalmo (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS), who finished at 21:57.

Laughlin's finish earned her an honorable mention for the All-AMC Women's Cross Country Team.

"Women Thinclads Finish Fifth in AMC/Laughlin Honorable Mention"

At the AMC cross country championships hosted by Cedarville, the Walsh University (46-39) women ran well enough to place fifth amongst the 11 schools participating. Winning the competition overall was Malone, followed by Cedarville, Shawnee State, and Houghton.

The Cavaliers were paced by Katie Laughlin (So, Malvern, OH/Canton South) with a time of 20:14 and pace of 6:32, good for 27th overall and 21st of those participating with a full team. She was followed by Nicole Culler (So., Beloit, OH/West Branch) at 20:33, 31st overall and 24th in team competition. Other earning points for Walsh were Kim Swartz (Fr., Tiffin, OH/Tiffin Calvert) with a time of 20:48, Lissa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) 10 seconds later at 20:58, and Megan Case (Jr., Louisville, OH/HS) at 21:13. Also running for the Cavs were Amber Cross (Fr., Mineral Ridge, OH/HS), who finished at 21:48, and Emily Depalmo (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS), who finished at 21:57.

"Women XC Finish Third in Walsh Invite"

COMPLETE RESULTS

Walsh's women's cross country team finished third in a pack of eight schools at the Walsh Invitational Saturday morning. The Cavaliers totaled 86 points, just two shy of second place held by Ashland University. Malone won the event with a clean sweep of the top five runners.

Finishing first for Walsh and 16th overall was Katie Laughlin (So., Malvern, OH/Canton South) with a time of 20:16. Nicole Culler (So., Beloit, OH/West Branch) was second with a time of 20:39, good for 20th. Others scoring points for the Cavaliers were Kim Swartz (Fr., Tiffin, OH/Tiffin Calvert) at 26th overall with a time of 20:53, Megan Case (Jr., Louisville, OH/HS) at 32nd with a time of 21:09 and Lisa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) with a time of 21:12.

Others running for the Cavs were Amber Cross (Fr., Mineral Ridge, OH/HS) at 34th with a time of 21:19, Kristen LeFever (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) at 40th with a time of 21:41, Rachelle Miller (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) at 45th with a time of 21:56, Emily DePalmo (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS) at 47th with a time of 21:58, Tara Smith (Fr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) at 53rd with a time of 22:44, Ashley Smith (So., Norwalk, OH/St. Paul) at 57th with a time of 23:15, Brittany Wile (Fr., Hudson, OH/HS) at 60th with a time of 23:40, Melissa Moziejko (Jr., Columbiana, OH/Bishop Hartley) at 61st with a time of 23:44, Kelly Vigars (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) at 67th with a time of 24:35, and Erin Clark (So., Stow, OH/Hoban) at 82nd with a time of 28:47.

The cross country team will next compete at the AMC championships Saturday, Nov. 7 at Cedarville University with a scheduled start time of 9:30 a.m.

"Cavs 12th at Gettysburg Invitational/Host 5K Next Saturday"

COMPLETE RESULTS

Walsh (35-33) finished 12th at the 28-team Gettysburg Invitational. Next Saturday, Walsh will host the seven-team 5K Walsh Invitational at 11 am.

Kristen LeFever (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) paced the Cavs with a 33rd place finish in a time of 25:25.59. Nicole Culler (So., Beliot, OH/West Branch) was next, placing 49th in a time of 25:56.93. Lissa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) finished 58th (26:07.86), Amber Cross (Fr., Mineral Ridge, OH/HS) 85th (26:45.21) and Megan Case (Jr., Louisville, OH/HS) 86th (26:47.24).

"Cavs 8th at All-Ohio Meet"

(Delaware, OH) Walsh (19-22) finished eighth in the twelve team field at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships held at Ohio Wesleyan Univesity today. Malone University won the division two race.

Kim Swartz (Fr., Tiffin, OH/Tiffin Calvert) paced the Cavs with 33rd place finish in a time of 21:48.7. Nicole Culler (So., Beliot, OH/West Branch) was next, placing 38th in a time of 22:03.1. Lissa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) finished 40th in a time 22:04.7, Megan Case was (Jr., Louisville, OH/HS) 42nd (22:13.8), Katie Laughlin (So., Malvern, OH/Canton South) 48th (22:34.6), Kristen LeFever (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) 50th (22:42.0) and Rachelle Miller (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) 64th (23:31.5). "Teams to Compete at All-Ohio Meet"

Walsh's men (15-15) and women (15-15) will compete at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships this Friday in Delaware, Ohio.The men's race will start at 2:45 pm, with women's race slated to start at 2 pm.Last year was the first time that the men did not run the race, while the women also missed the meet for the first time.

"Cavs 12th at National Catholic Invitational"

Walsh finished 12th in the 24-team field at the National Catholic Cross Country Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday. Bellarmine University (77) won the Division II race. The Cavs are idle this week.

Kristen LeFever (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) paced the Cavaliers with a time of 20:17, good for 41st place overall. Katie Laughlin (So., Malvern, OH/Canton South) wasn't very far behind with a time of 20:23 and a 46th place finish. Rounding out the scoring squad was Kim Swartz (Fr., Tiffin, OH/Tiffin Calvert) at 66th with a time of 20:47, Lissa Yoder 76th (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) and a time of 20:52, and Megan Case (Jr., Louisville, OH/HS) 104th with a time of 21:29. Also running for Walsh was Emily Depalmo (Fr., Minerva, OH/HS) with a time of 21:41 for a 112th place finish and Rachelle Miller (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) with a time of 21:53 and 118th place finish.

"Cavs in Top Half of National Catholic Invite"

(South Bend, IN) The Walsh women's cross country team finished in the top half of 24 teams in the 2009 National Catholic Cross Country Invitational on Friday, Sept. 18. The Lady Cavs (15-15) finished 12th in Division II with a score of 333. Bellarmine University won the invitational with a score of 77.

Kristen LeFever (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) paced the Cavaliers with a time of 20:17, good for 41st place overall. Katie Laughlin (So., Malvern, OH/Canton South) wasn't very far behind with a time of 20:23 and a 46th place finish. "Women XC Finish Fourth in Invite"

Walsh (4-3) finished fourth in the second annual Ric Sayre Invitational Saturday morning in their first meet of the season. For the second straight year, John Carroll University (28) won the event with their top five runners finishing 11th or better. Wooster finished (65) finished second and Roberts Wesleyan (86) finished third. The Cavaliers (93) defeated Cuyahoga County Community College (134), Mount Union (136), Lake Erie College (171) and Hiram College (256).

Katie Laughlin (Fr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) led the Cavs finishing eighth with a time of 19:39. Kim Swartz (Fr., Tiffin, OH/Tiffin Calvert) followed at 16th overall (20:20), Lissa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) 22nd (20:36), Amber Cross (Fr., Mineral Ridge, OH/HS) 28th (20:52) and Kristen LeFever (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) 29th (20:54).

This Friday, the Cavs travel to South Bend, Indiana for the annual National Catholic Championships.

"Walsh to Host 2nd Ric Sayre Cross Country Invitational on Saturday"

Walsh University will host the second annual Ric Sayre Invitational this Saturday morning. The race features Cuyahoga Community College, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Mount Union College, Lake Erie College, Roberts Wesleyan College, Thiel College, Ursuline College and the College of Wooster. The women's race will start at 10 am and the men's race at 10:45 am. Both Walsh teams finished second last year. John Carroll won both the men's and women's race.

Sayre earned NAIA All-American status for Walsh in 1979 and 1980 and was a US National Champion in the marathon after leaving Walsh.
