"Five Cavs Named to All-AMC Team; Bossart Coach of the Year"

The Walsh University Men's Tennis Team placed five players on the All-American Mideast Conference Team and Sherry Bossart was named Coach of the Year for the 15th time. Walsh won the AMC regular season championship, but fell in the AMC/KIAC title match.

Gary Innes (Sr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills), Mark Innes (Jr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) and Pierre Le Grange (Sr., Johannesburg, South Africa/Abbott's College) were each named to the singles and doubles teams, while Jonathan Esber (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) was selected to the doubles team and Diego Yung (Jr., Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires/Institute Peralta Ramos) to the singles team.

Gary Innes earned All-AMC accolades for the fourth straight year. He played mostly fourth and fifth singles and number one doubles with his brother, Mark. He fashioned an 8-10 singles record. Mark received All-AMC honors for the third straight year, playing anywhere from first to fifth singles. He compiled an 8-7 mark. The duo finished 10-5 in doubles action.

Le Grange played mostly second singles and recorded a 12-4 mark. This is his first selection to the AMC Team. Esber earned All-AMC honors for the third year after compiling a 6-8 mark at mostly third and fourth singles. He teamed with Le Grange, and the twosome compiled a 7-6 mark at first and second doubles. Yung played first singles for all but three matches and finished the season 11-6. This is his second straight selection to the All-AMC Team.

"Cavs Fall in Bid for Nationals"

(Cedarville, OH) Walsh's (9-9) bid for a final trip to the NAIA National Championships ended today, as the Cavs were edged 5-4 by Kentucky Intercollegiate Conference Champion Brescia College (14-5) at the Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex. The match was tied at 4-4, when Brescia's Alexis DeVilleneuve defeated Walsh's Mark Innes (Jr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 to decide the match.

"Cavs Meet Brescia College for NAIA Tourney Berth"

Walsh (9-8, 3-0) meets Brescia College (KY) on Friday, May 6, at 9 am for the right to advance to the NAIA National Tennis Championships (May 17-21, Mobile, AL). Walsh won the American Mideast Conference regular season crown, while Brescia (13-5, 9-0) won the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title and defeated IU Southeast in the conference tournament championship.

Walsh has won six straight AMC titles and is looking to make their second straight NAIA appearance and 12th national tournament trip overall.

"Cavs Defeated 5-4 at Ohio Northern"

(Ada, OH) Ohio Northern University (11-2) defeated Walsh (9-8) 5-4 today. The loss snapped the Cavs five-match win streak.

"Walsh Downs Battling Bishops"

Walsh (8-7) won its fourth straight match, defeating Ohio Wesleyan University (7-9) 6-3 in a non-conference match today. The Cavs won four singles matches and took two out of three doubles matches. The Cavs are at Tiffin University at 11 am tomorrow for a non-conference match.

"Today's Match at Tiffin Cancelled; Rescheduled for Wednesday"

Today's non-conference match at Tiffin University has been cancelled and rescheduled for Wednesday, indoors at 111 am. Walsh's scheduled home match on Wednesday with Muskingum has been cancelled due to a scheduling conclict for the Muskies. Walsh is at Ohio Wesleyan University at 4 pm tomorrow.

"Cavs Clinch Again With Win Over Malone"

Walsh clinched its sixth consecutive regular season conference championship today with an 8-1 win over rival Malone. The Cavs (7-7, 3-0) have gone undefeated in the conference for the second consecutive year.

"Northern Kentucky Bests Cavs 6-3

(Highland Heights, KY) Walsh (4-7) lost 6-3 to Northern Kentucky University (6-2) at the Yeager Tennis Complex today. Diego Yung (Jr., Mar del Plata/Buenos Aires) won at first singles and Louis Thomas Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) at number six singles for the Cavs. The pair then won at third doubles.

"Cavs Receive Votes in First Coaches Poll"

Walsh (2-1) received 17 votes in the first NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches Poll of the season. The 17 votes place the Cavs in the number 31 spot. Walsh is one of two American Mideast Conference schools to receive votes. Roberts Wesleyan College received one vote.

The Cavs open the spring portion of the schedule in Orlando, FL on March 6 against Olivet Nazarene University.

"Innes, LeGrange Fall in First Match at USTA/ITA Doubles Championships"


(Mobile, AL) Gary Innes (Sr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) and Pierre LeGrange (Sr., Durban, Kwazulu-Natal/Abbot's College) lost in their first match at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, being held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama. Innes and LeGrange lost 6-2, 6-1 to the combination of Bruno Savi and Claudio Andrade from Auburn-Montgomery. This placed the Cavs' duo into the losers bracket, where they promptly defeated Kai Drwecki and Carlos Yanes from Graceland College 6-7 (5), 6-4 (10-7). Innes and LeGrange then lost in the battle for fifth place, falling 6-7 (5), 6-4, (10-7) to Kirill Sinitsyn and Jose Hilla from Fresno Pacific College.

"Innes, LeGrange Win ITA Regional Doubles Crown"

(Aquinas, MI) Gary Innes (Sr., Randburg, South Africa/Kings School Robin Hills) and Pierre LeGrange (Sr., Durban, Kwazulu-Natal/Abbot's College) won the USTA/ITA Regional Doubles Championship today at Aquinas College. The pair will now advance to Mobile, Alabama, October 14-17, for the USTA/ITA Championships. Gary Innes is making his second straight trip to the championships, having won the regional crown with brother Mark last year.

The Cavs duo advanced by winning 8-4 over Indiana Wesleyan, 8-1 against Taylor University, 8-2 over the University of Northwestern Ohio, 8-4 over Indiana University-Southeast and 8-5 over the Aquinas duo of Artaev and Hendrick.

"Cavs Split at Allegheny"

(Meadville, PA) Walsh (1-1) opened the season with a split at Allegheny College at the seventh Annual Nancy J. Heath Invitational. The Cavs fell 6-3 to host Allegheny, then blanked Penn State Behrend 9-0 for their first win of the season. The Cavs host John Carroll University next Saturday at 11 am.
