"Shaheen and Webster Named to All-AMC Women's Tennis Team; Bossart Coach of the Year"

The Walsh University Women's Tennis Team placed Kayla Shaheen (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and Shellie Webster (So., Lexington, OH/HS) pictured and on the All-American Mideast Conference Team and Sherry Bossart was named Coach of the Year for the 10th time. Walsh won the AMC regular season and conference tournament championships, but fell in the first round of the NAIA National Championships to 11th ranked Southern Nazarene University on Tuesday in Mobile, Alabama.

Kayla Shaheen played number two singles and teamed with Shellie Webster at first doubles. This is Shaheen's first selection on the All-AMC Team. She finished the season 7-10 at second singles. Her victory in the AMC Championship match propelled the Cavs into the national championships.

Webster earned All-AMC honors for the second straight year. She finished 9-10 at first singles and combined with Shaheen to finish 9-10 at first doubles.

"Southern Nazarene Eliminates Cavs 8-1"

NAIA No. 11 Southern Nazarene (15-6) eliminated Walsh (9-11) 8-1 in the first round of the NAIA National Championships, being held in Mobile, Alabama.

Allison St. George (So., Boardman, OH/Cardinal Mooney) pictured left posted the Cavs only win, a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at number five singles.

"Champion Cavs to Meet NAIA No. 11 Southern Nazarene in Final NAIA Tourney Appearance"
Walsh (9-10) will meet NAIA No. 11 Southern Nazarene University (14-6) in a first round match at the single elimination NAIA National Championships, being held in Mobile, Alabama. The Cavs and Crimson Storm meet on Tuesday, May 17 at 1 pm at the Mobile Tennis Center. The winner meets sixth-seeded Point Loma University on Wednesday at 1 pm.

This is the fifth and final trip to the championships for the Cavs, who will be leaving the NAIA after this academic year and going to NCAA division two status.

The Cavs defeated Roberts Wesleyan University 5-4 in the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship to earn an automatic berth and second consecutive trip to the championships. The Cavs are 0-4 at the championships in the current team format. Walsh has made NAIA National Tournament appearances in 1985, 1989, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2010.
Walsh's opponent, Southern Nazarene University, received an at-large berth to the tournament, after losing the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Championship match 8-1 to Oklahoma Christian University.

Shellie Webster (So., Lexington, OH/HS) will play number one singles and team with Kayla Shaheen (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) at first doubles. Shaheen, whose victory gave Walsh the triumph over Roberts Wesleyan in the AMC title match, plays second singles. Webster is 9-9 at first singles and Shaheen is 7-9 at second singles. Webster played first singles as a freshman, while Webster moved from fourth singles. The Walsh pair finished 9-8 at first doubles.

Barbara Lewis (Jr., Westerville, OH/St. Frances DeSales) will play third singles at the championships and team with freshman Bonnie Byelene (North Canton, OH/HS) at third doubles. Lewis was 6-8 in singles play and has won five of her last seven matches. Byelene will play number six singles. She fashioned a 7-7 singles mark, with five wins in her last six matches.

Junior Alison Rossi (Warren, OH/John F. Kennedy) will play fourth singles. Rossi battled injury for most of the season and played in just five singles matches. She will team with Allison St. George (So., Boardman, OH/Cardinal Mooney) at second doubles. St. George will play fifth singles. She finished 9-8 for the year, with five wins in her last seven matches.

Rebeka Beresh (Jr., North Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas), Jaclyn DiDomenico (Fr., Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney), Nicole Duncan (Sr., Norton, OH/HS), Julia Kole (Sr., Mississauga, ONT/St. Aloysius), Laura Meiler (Sr., Salem, OH/United) and Kara Papatheodorou (Jr., North Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) make-up the remainder the Champion Cavs.

Walsh and veteran head coach Sherry Bossart (255-165, 26 yrs.) feel confident heading to Alabama after their extremely tough schedule. Walsh faced NCAA foes Allegheny College, John Carroll University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Grand Valley State University, Morehaed State University, Carnegie Mellon University, Northern Kentucky University, Ashland University and Tiffin University.

"Cavs to Meet NAIA No. 11 Southern Nazarene in NAIA Tourney Match-up"

Walsh (9-10) will meet NAIA No. 11 Southern Nazarene University (14-6) in a first round match at the single elimination NAIA National Championships, being held in Mobile, Alabama. "Cavs Capture NAIA Trip With 5-4 Win"

(Cedarville, OH) Walsh (9-10) has captured another berth to the NAIA National Championships, as they defeated Roberts Wesleyan University (15-4) 5-4 in the championship match. Kayla Shaheen (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) won 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 at second singles to clinch the match. Walsh won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles.

Walsh will be making its second straight trip, and 13th overall to the NAIA Championships, being held in Mobile, Alabama (May 17-21).

"Cavs Play in AMC Title Match on Friday"

Walsh (8-10, 5-0) is headed to the American Mideast Conference championship match at Cedarville University. Walsh, winners of the AMC regular season championship, meets the winner of the Roberts Wesleyan College (14-3, 4-1)/Cedarville University (10-10, 3-2) match at 1pm on Friday at Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex at Cedarville. Roberts Wesleyan and Cedarville play on Thursday at 1 pm.

Walsh defeated both teams in the regular season. The Cavs beat Roberts Wesleyan 5-4 and Cedarville 6-3. Walsh is looking to make its second straight trip to the NAIA Tournament and 13th overall.

"Cavs Clinch Second Consecutive Championship"

Walsh clinched its second consecutive regular season conference championship today with an 8-1 win over rival Malone. The Cavs (8-10, 5-0) have gone undefeated in the conference for the first time since 2007.

"Cavs Shutout at Ashland"

(Ashland, OH) Walsh fell to 6-10 on the season after being blanked 9-0 by NCAA D-ll Ashland University today. The win improves the Eagles to 20-6. Walsh travels to Tiffin University for a non-conference match on Tuesday.

"Cavs Down Jackets 6-3; Remain Unbeaten in AMC"

(Cedarville, OH) Walsh (6-9, 4-0) won its fourth straight match, and remained unbeaten in the American Mideast Conference with a 6-3 win at Cedarville University (9-6, 3-1) today. Shellie Webster (So., Lexington, OH/HS) won at both first singles and first doubles, as did Allison St. George (So., Boardman, OH/Cardinal Mooney) at fourth singles and third doubles.

The Cavs are at Ashland University on Saturday in a non-conference match at 10 am.

"Cavs Shutout Carlow to Improve to 3-0 in AMC"

(Pittsburgh, PA) Defending American Mideast Conference champion Walsh (5-9) improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 9-0 win at Carlow University today. The win was the third straight for the Cavs. The Cavs are back in action on Monday, when they travel to Cedarville University for an AMC match at 3:30 pm.

Walsh ended its four-match losing streak with a win over Ursuline by a count of 9-0 at the Hall of Fame Courts in Canton. The Cavs' record now stands at 3-9 overall and 1-0 in the AMC. The Cavs are at Roberts Wesleyan for an AMC match at 1 pm on Saturday.

"Cavs Split at Allegheny"

(Meadville, PA) Walsh (1-1) opened the season with a split at Allegheny College at the seventh Annual Nancy J. Heath Invitational. The Cavs fell 8-1 to host Allegheny, then blanked Penn State Behrend 6-3 for their first win of the season. The Cavs host John Carroll University next Saturday at 11 am.
