"Miller, Reed Selected as 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes"

The NAIA has announced that 306 women's cross country student-athletes have been named 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Walsh University's Rachelle Miller (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) far left and Rachel Reed (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) left have been selected to the team.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Millers majors in chemistry and carries a 3.85 grade point average, while Reed majors in biology and carries a 3.72 grade point average. Both are first time selections.

"Walsh Women Finish Fourth in AMC Championships"

Results

The Walsh University women's cross country team finished fourth overall in the AMC Championships hosted by Houghton Saturday morning. The Cavaliers finished with 414 points. Malone won the event easily with 125 points. Cedarville finished a distant second with 245 points, and Houghton came in third with 378 points.

Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Brance) paced the Cavs with a time of 19:24.67, good for 18th overall. Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) finished right behind her in 19th place with a time of 19:26.08. In third for Walsh was Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green) with a time of 20:40.97 and a 32nd overall finish. Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) wasn't too far behind and finished 33rd overall with a time of 20:44.77. Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) finished 44th with a time of 21:08.13. Rachelle Miller (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) finished in 47th place with a time of 21:20.18 and Rachel Reed (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) rounded out the team in 51st place with a time of 21:35.05.

"Walsh Women Finish Third in Invite"

Four events were held Saturday at the Walsh-Malone Invitational at Walsh and the Cavaliers competed in three of them. In the women's 5K, Walsh came in third place in the team event with 101 points, behind Cedarville with 37 points and Malone with 20 points. The Cavs finished ahead of Roberts Wesleyan, Cuyahoga Community College, Ursuline, Daemen, Point Park, and Hiram.

Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) paced Walsh with a 15th place finish and a time of 19:09. Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) followed three spots later with a time of 19:33. The next three runners all finished in the next minute with Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) finishing 25th with a time of 20:13, Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) finishing 28th with a time of 20:22, and Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green) finishing 29th with a time of 20:27.

Walsh (44-38) finished 11th at the 25-team Gettysburg College Invitational last Saturday, which was won by Shippensburg University.

Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) paced the Cavs with a 27th place finish in a time of 24:21.68 Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) was next, placing 39th in a time of 24:40.19. Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) finished in 65th place (25:15.02), Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green, OH) placed 86th (25:49.12) and Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) 100th (26:01.32).

LAST YEAR: Walsh's women's cross country team finished third in a pack of eight schools at the Walsh/Malone Invitational. The Cavaliers totaled 86 points, just two shy of second place held by Ashland University. Malone won the event with a clean sweep of the top five runners.

Finishing first for Walsh and 16th overall was Katie Laughlin with a time of 20:16. Nicole Culler was second with a time of 20:39, good for 20th. Others scoring points for the Cavaliers were Kim Swartz at 26th overall with a time of 20:53, Megan Case at 32nd with a time of 21:09 and Lisa Yoder (Fr., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) with a time of 21:12.

Others running for the Cavs were Amber Cross at 34th with a time of 21:19, Kristen LeFever at 40th with a time of 21:41, Rachelle Miller at 45th with a time of 21:56, Emily DePalmo at 47th with a time of 21:58, Tara Smith at 53rd with a time of 22:44, Ashley Smith at 57th with a time of 23:15, Brittany Wile at 60th with a time of 23:40, Melissa Moziejko at 61st with a time of 23:44, Kelly Vigars at 67th with a time of 24:35, and Erin Clark at 82nd with a time of 28:47.

"Cavs 5th at All-Ohio Championships; Yoder 21st"

Walsh (30-27) finished 5th at the All-Ohio Championships held at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course at Cedarville University today. Malone University (34) won the race, followed by Ashland University (48), Cedarville University (70), Shawnee State University (96) and the Cavs (176).

Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) finished in 21st place in a time of 19:36.4. Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) was next, placing 34th in a time of 20:24. Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) placed 37th (20:38.3), Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) 41st (20:54.9), Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green, OH) 43rd (21:00.0), Rachelle Miller (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) 48th (21:27.0) and Ashley Demsey (Sr., Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan) 57th (22:31.7).

MEET INFORMATION

Walsh is coming off an eighth place finish at Otterbein last Saturday. Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) pictured left paced the Cavs with her 14th place finish (19:21). Yoder has led the Cavs in each race this season.

Walsh finished 8th at the All-Ohio meet last year. The Cavs best race was a second place finish in 1982, their year with a cross country program and 1983.

Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) has complimented Yoder well, and finished 34th at Otterbein last week in a time of 19:55.3. Yoder and Culler have run one-two all season.

"Cavs 8th at Otterbein Invitational"

Walsh (25-23) finished eighth at the Otterbein Invitational today. Ashland University on the race, comprised of 18 teams. The Cavs are at the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville University next Friday.

Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) pictured left paced the Cavs with a 14th place finish in a time of 19:21. Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) was next, finishing 34th in a time of 19:55.3.

Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) was next for the Cavs finishing 35th in a time of 19:56.3. Kaley Charek (Fr., Green, OH/Clinton) was 57th in a time of 20:38.1 and Missy Moziejko placed (Sr., Columbus, OH/Bishop Hartley) 71st in a time of 20:55.

"Cavs 15th at Notre Dame"

(South Bend, IN) Walsh (15-16) finished 15th in a field of 25 teams at the National Catholic Championships at the University of Notre Dame today.

Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) led the Cavs with a 33rd place finish in a time of 19:55. Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) finished 74th in a time of 21:00.

Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) was next for the Cavs, finishing 80th in a time of 21:07. Rachelle Miller (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) finished 87th (21:13), Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) was 95th (21:23), Ashley Demsey (Sr., Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan) was 113th (21:59) and Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green) finished 117th (22:08).

"Cavs Finish Third in Season Opener"

Walsh University women's cross country team opened the season and placed third as a team in the annual Ric Sayre Invitational Saturday morning. John Carroll won the event with a low score of 28. Mount Union finished second with 56, 40 points ahead of the Cavs. Walsh finished ahead of Ursuline College, Mount Vernon Nazarene, Roberts Wesleyan, Cuyahoga, and Hiram.

Lissa Yoder (So., Cortland, OH/Maplewood) led the Cavaliers pack with a fifth-place finish and a time of 19:29.63. Nicole Culler (Jr., Beloit, OH/West Branch) finished second for the Cavs and 16th overall with a time of 20:19.80. Katie Laughlin (Jr., Malvern, OH/Canton South) crossed the finish line next for Walsh and finished 23rd overall with a time of 20:37.56. Kaley Charek (Fr., Clinton, OH/Green) followed with a time of 20:42.84, good for 25th overall and 24th in the team competition. Rounding out the top five Walsh finishers was Megan Case (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS) in 33rd overall and 28th in the team competition with a time of 20:57.11.

Alternates for Walsh were Rachelle Miller (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) in 37th overall with a time of 21:08.51 and Ashley Demsey (Sr., Parma, OH/Padua Franciscan) right behind in 38th overall with a time of 21:12.38.

The Cavaliers will next run in the National Catholic Meet at the University of Notre Dame (IN) on Friday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
