"Walsh University Teams Earn 2009-10 NAIA Scholar Team Awards"

Walsh University's men's track and cross country programs have received team scholar honors from the NAIA. The men's cross country team and the track team, both coached by veteran mentor Dan McCallion, have been recognized.

The men's track team compiled a 3.17 team GPA, while the cross country team compiled a 3.14 team GPA. A record total of 857 teams received NAIA Scholar Team awards.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.

"Morgan All-American; Williams Just Misses Finals"

(Marian, IN) Walsh's Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) earned NAIA All-American honors with his second place finish (24-04.25) in the long jump at the 59th annual NAIA National Track and Field Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. Indiana Wesleyan's Thomas Collet edged Morgan (24-11.75) for national champion honors.

Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) just missed qualifying for the finals in the 110 high hurdles. Williams was seventh with a time of 14.71. The top six qualify.

"Williams Reaches Semifinals at NAIA Championships"

(Marian, IN) Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) has reached the semifinals in the 110m high hurdles (14.63) at the 59th annual NAIA National Track and Field Championships, hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.

Walsh's 400m relay team of Williams, Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) and John Schweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS) failed to reach the semifinals (42.63) due to a bad exchange.

"Morgan, Williams Head NAIA National Contingent"

Joe Morgan (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) and Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) will lead Walsh's contingent at the 59th annual NAIA National Track and Field Championships, May 27-29 in Marian, Indiana.

Morgan, who won the long jump at the NAIA indoor championships, set a new American Mideast Conference outdoor mark (24-01.50) and is a national champion contender. Morgan best mark this season is 24.03.75. Morgan is also part of Walsh's 400m relay team, along with Williams, Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) and John Schweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS). They posted a season best time of 42:28.

Williams will run in the 110 high hurdles. He finished second at the AMC meet and has posted a best time of 14.54. He finished seventh at last year's championships.

"Cavs Do Well at Weekend Events"

The Cavs placed well at the Slippery Rock University on Friday and at the Campbell/Wright Open at the University of Akron on Saturday.

Joe Morgan (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) won the long jump ( 23-4) and Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) won the 110HH ( 14.99) in wind and rain at the Campbell/Wright Invitation hosted by the Universitiy of Akron at Lee Jackson Field on Saturday. Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) won the long jump (21-4) at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Friday.

"Cavs Relay Team Qualifies at Ashland"

Walsh's 4x100m relay team provisionally qualified for the NAIA national meet today at Ashland University with a time of 42.28. The team of Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley), Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), John Schweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS) , and Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) finished third.

"Cavs Fourth at AMC Championships, Schrecengost Wins Hammer/Morgan top Point Man"

COMPLETE RESULTS

Walsh finished fourth, with 113 points, at the American Mideast Conference Track and Field Championships held at Walsh. Malone University dethroned defending champion Cedarville University to win the meet.

Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) won the hammer, with a throw of 152-06 and Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley), who set a new AMC mark in the long jump yesterday, won the 100m dash (11.13). Morgan led all athletes with 26 points.

Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) finished second in the 110m hurdles (15.03) and the finished third along with Morgan, Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS) and John Sweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS) in the 4x100m relay (42.61). Evan Heck finished third in the 800m run (1:58/.32) and along with Sweinfurth, Colin Davis (Fr., Carrollton, OH/HS) and Caleb Stevenhagen (Fr., Portage Lakes, OH/Manchester), finished third in the 4x400m relay (3:28.22).

"Morgan AMC Long Jump Champion; Williams Qualifies for Finals in Two Events"

Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) left set a new American Mideast Conference record in the long jump (24-01.50) today. Morgan was the only Cavalier to capture AMC First-Team honors after day one of the track and field championships being held at Walsh.

Malone University leads the field with 94.5 points, with Notre Dame College second (61), defending champion Cedarville University third (53) and Walsh fourth (33). The championships resume at 9:30 am tomorrow morning.

Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) qualifed for the finals in the 110m hurdles (14.56) and the 100m dash (11.48). The 110m hurdles will be held at 12:25 and the100m dash at 1 pm.

Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) finished third in the long jump (21-08.75).

"Cavs to Host AMC Meet on Friday and Saturday"

Walsh will host the American Mideast Conference Track and Field Championships this Friday (3:30 pm) and Saturday (9:30 am). Field events start at 3:30 pm on Friday and running events at 4 pm. On Saturday, field events start at 9:30 am and running events at 10 am. View Meet Information. View Event Schedule/Times. The meet is free of charge to the public.

Walsh's men finished fourth at last year's championships, won by Cedarville University. Malone University, who has captured 24 conference championships, finished second last year and Notre Dame College third.

Participants to watch from Walsh include Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) long jump, Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) 110m hurdles, Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) high jump, Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) hammer, Walsh's 4x100m relay team of Morgan, Williams, John Sweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS), and Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) steeplechase.

"Cavs Sixth at Mount Union; Harsh, Morgan, Williams Winners"

(Alliance, OH) Walsh finished sixth at the Mount Union College Open today. Walsh finished with 59 points. Malone University won the event with 136.50 points.

Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS), Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) and Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) all posted first place finishes for the Cavs. Harsh won the high jump (1.83m), Morgan the long jump (7.40m) and Williams the 110m hurdles (14.74).

Morgan shattered the Walsh record, held by Gary Robinson, and qualified automatically for the NAIA Championships, as did Willliams in 110m hurdles.

"Cavs Shine at Malone/Morgan, Williams Double Winners"

Walsh fared well at the Jack Hazen Open at Malone University today. The Cavs had six, first-place winners.

Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished first in the 3000m steeplechase (10.20.24), Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) was first in the long jump (7.09), Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) in the 110m hurdles (1:00.18), Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) in the hammer (45.71m), Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) in the 5000m (17:05.00) and the Cavs 4x100m relay team of Williams, John Sweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS), Morgan and Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS) won in a time of 42.90m.

"Cavs Second at College of Wooster Invitational/Bauman, Morgan Win"

Walsh finished second with 121 points at the College of Wooster Invitational, just five points behind first place Ashland University.

Dan Bauman (So., Paris, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) were each victorious in respective events. Bauman placed first in the 3000m steeplechase (10:16.09) and Morgan in the long jump (22-10.00).

Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) finished second in the 110m hurdles (15.24) and Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) in the high jump (5-10.75). Dan Opeka (So., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished third in the 3000m steeplechase (10:42.67) and Evan Heck (So,, Canton, OH/Central Catholic) third in the 800m run (1:58.63).

"Williams Reaches Semi in 60m Hurdles; Schrecengost 30th in Shot"

(Johnson City, TN) Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) reached the semifinals and finished ninth in the 60m hurdles (8.22) and Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) placed 30th (51-04.50) in the 35 lb. weight throw.

"Morgan National Indoor Long Jump Champion"

(Johnson City, TN) Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) PICTURED LEFT shattered his own school record (24-00.75), and became an NAIA National Indoor Champ in the long jump today. Morgan's jump of 25-06.75 gave Walsh its first national indoor champ since March of 2003, when Kevin Surnear turned the trick in the shot put.

"Cavs Shine at Mount, Schrecengost, Williams, Morgan Set Marks; Qualify"

It was quite a successful day for Walsh at the Mount Union College Raider Open. Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) won the 35lb. weight throw, with a NAIA automatic qualifying toss of 54'13/4." Brian Williams (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) shattered his own Walsh mark, while winning the 55m HH (7.69), to improve his national qualifing performance. Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) won the long jump and set a Walsh record (24'3/4") and set a new school record in the 55m (6.45) (auto qualifier). Morgan ranks second in the long jump in the NAIA.

"Cavs Shine at Kenyon"

Walsh fared well at a non-scoring meet at Kenyon College today, posting three first place finishes.

Evan Heck (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) finished first in the 800m in a time of 2:02.02. The Cavs also received first place finishes from two relay teams. The 4x200m team of Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS), Caleb Stevenhagen (Fr., Portage Lakes, OH/Manchester) and John Sweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS) won in a time of 1:35.56. The Cavs 4x400m team of Chris Noussias (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Chase Harshbarger (Fr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban), Evan Heck and John Sweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS) won with a winning time of 3:37.34.

"Morgan Sets Record in Long Jump, Qualifies for Nationals"

Walsh's Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) set a new Walsh record in the long jump (7.21) and qualified for the NAIA Indoor Nationals at the Al Hall Freedom Games at Edinboro University today. Morgan finished first in the event.

The Cavs also received first place finishes from Tyler Pierce (Jr., Salem, OH/HS) in the high jump (1.78) and Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) in the weight throw (15.01).

Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.35) and the Cavs 4x800m relay team of Chris Noussias (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak), Colin Davis (Fr., Carrollton, OH/HS), Chase Harshbarger (Fr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Evan Heck (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) finished second (8.35.78).

"INDOOR TRACK: Morgan and Williams Earn First Place Finishes at Spartan Relays"

COMPLETE RESULTS

The Walsh University men's indoor track team competed in the 2010 Spartan Relays hosted by Case Western Reserve University and came away with first place finishes in three events.

Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) finished first in both the 55 meter dash and long jump while Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) took top honors in the 55 meter hurdles. Morgan finished with a time of 6.54 in the 55 meter dash (.01 from national standard) and jumped a distance of 22-05.75 (.03 from national standard). Williams completed the hurdles with a time of 7.71 and automatically qualified for the NAIA National Indoor Meet.

Other standouts for the Cavaliers included a second place finish by Dan Harsh (so., Perry, OH/HS) in the triple jump with a distance of 36-11, Evan Heck (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) placing third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:02.92, Jordan Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) finishing fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:45.02, Tyler Pierce's (Jr., Salem, OH/HS) fourth-place high jump of 5-10, and Brad Schrecengost's (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) fourth place weight throw of 43-03.75.

"Cavs 5th at Marietta Open, Capture Five First Place Finishes"

Walsh finished 5th at the Marietta Open, hosted by Marietta College, in their first meet of the indoor track season. Walsh finished with 91 points, just two behind fourth place Frostburg State. Concord finished first with 150 points at the seven-team open. COMPLETE RESULTS

Dan Harsh (So., Perry, OH/HS) captured the high jump (6-00.75). Brad Schrecengost (Jr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview) won the weight throw with a toss of 44-09.75. Joe Morgan (Jr., Canton, OH/McKinley) won the long jump (20-11.25) and Brian Williams (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) the 55m hurdles (7.98). The Cavs also produced the winning 4x200m relay team. Harsh, Kevin Beichler (Jr., Smithville, OH/HS), John Sweinfurth (So., Medina, OH/HS) and Brad Ziegler (So., Stow, OH/HS) won in a time of 1:37.40).

Chris Noussias (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished second in the 500m in a time of 1:10.97), Sweinfurth third in the 200m (23.87), Joe Paulenich (So., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) fourth in the shot (40-02.00) and sixth in the weight throw (39-01.25) and Tyler Pierce (Jr., Salem, OH/HS).
