3.1.12 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Kinney First-Team All-AMC; Four Others Honorable Mention

Ron Kinney (Sr., 6-7, Cleveland, OH/Rhodes/Charleston) leads a group of five Cavaliers that were named to the All-American Mideast Conference Team for the 2011-2012 season. Also making the team were L.J. Sutton (Sr., 6-7, Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) and Brad DuPont (So., 6-0, Massillon, OH/Jackson/Wheeling Jesuit) as honorable mentions, and Rian Burrell (6-3, Zanesville, OH/HS) and Jeff Copeland (6-5, Toledo, OH/St. John’s Jesuit) as members of the All-AMC Freshmen Team.

Kinney leads the Cavaliers in scoring with 18.8 points per game to date and has started in all 29 games. Overall he has hit 54 percent (210-of-389) of his shots and has shot 46.4 (77-of-166) percent from beyond the arc. He is also the second-leading rebounder on the team with 5.3 boards per game.

Sutton is one of four Cavaliers to average double-figures with 12.6 points per game. He has made 55.3 percent of all shots he has taken this season and leads the team with 186 total rebounds. Sutton has played in 28 games with 27 starts.

DuPont has had a strong year with an 8.9 points per game average. He showed great vision on the court with 219 assists to date and has 74 steals, both team highs. DuPont is currently third on the team in made three-point field goals with 50. Earlier this season, DuPont scored just the second triple-double in the history of the program.

Burrell has played well in his first year at Walsh and is second on the team in points scored (401) and field goals made (157). He has an average of 13.8 points per game. Burrell is second on the team in steals with 31 and assists with 73.

Copeland has appeared in all 29 games for the Cavaliers. He is second on the team in field goal percentage with a 55.4 percent success rate. He is second on the team in blocked shots with 12.

This was the last season for Walsh as a member of the AMC. Starting in 2012-2013, the Cavaliers will be a full member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Walsh returns to action on Friday, when they meet Central State University in the semifinls of Ohio Independent Champions at Cedarville University.  Game time is 3 pm.  The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1350 AM. FoxSports1350
