3.1.14 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cavs Win Finale; Berry, Gallupe Shine in Final Game

(TIFFIN, Ohio) Walsh (12-16, 8-14) closed the season with an 86-77 win at Tiffin University (7-19, 4-18) today. The Cavs finished the year winning six of their last nine games.
 
Kelsey Funderburgh (So., 5-7, North Lewisburg, OH/Triad/Morehead State), Tara Gallupe (Sr., 6-0, Pittsburgh, PA/Avonworth) and Maggie Berry (Sr., 6-0, Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph) combined to score 63 of the Cavs 87 points. Funderburgh led all scorers with 25 points, connectiing on 9-16 from the floor and 5-10 from three-point. She also had five steals and four rebounds. Gallupe added 21 points and 7 rebounds. Berry scored 17 on 6-10 from the floor and 3-3 from three-point. Gallupe and Berry were each playing their final game for the Cavs.

Walsh jumped to an 11-3 lead, but Tiffin rallied and took a 29-28 lead with 6:03 to go in the half. There were eight ties in the first half, wtih Tiffin taking a 45-44 lead into the locker room.

The second half was tight, with seven more ties before Walsh took the lead for good at 72-70 on a Gallupe three-pointer with 6:16 to play.

The Cavs would build the lead on the strength of a 12-3 run to lead 84-75 with 1:09 to play.

Walsh shot 56% (5-9) from three-point in the second half, while holding Tiffin to just 12-34 from the floor in the second half.

Walsh out-rebounded the Dragons 46-32. Whitney Dabbelt (So., 6-1, West Carrollton, OH/Archbishop Alter) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, with Rachel Trujillo (So., 5-8, Cleveland, OH/Westlake) adding eight rebounds, nine points, four assists and two steals.
