(North Canton, OH) Walsh evened its record at 6-6 with a double header sweep of the University of Charleston (10-10) today. The Cavs tossed a double shutout at Charleston, winning 1-0 and 2-0. The Cavs are at the University of Mount Union for a 3 pm twin bill tomorrow.
Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) pitched a one-hit shutout in the opener to improve to 3-3. She fanned six and allowed only a fourth inning single.
Walsh snapped the scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) opened the inning with a bunt single and was advanced to second on a sacrifice by Jenna Rosso (Sr., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele. Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) then stroked a two-out line drive single to left to score Brown with the games’ only run.
Freshman Hanna Dodson (Newark, OH/Licking Valley) pitched a four-hit shutout to win the nightcap, and is now 2-1 on the season. Walsh again broke through in the bottom half of the sixth inning, with the help of a Charleston error. With two outs, Kaleigh Cupka (Fr., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit) singled to start the rally. Crystal Pfleger (Jr.,) pinch hit for Rachel Dedinsky (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) and reached base on an error by the third baseman. Ebert then walked to load the bases and Maggie Yavorsky walked to force in Cupka to give the Cavs a 1-0 lead. Pfleger then scored on a wild pitch.
