3.16.14 SOFTBALL: Anderson, Bondoni Lead Cavs to Split

(TROUTVILLE, Va.) Walsh (10-7) split in their final games at the Salem Tournament. After being blanked 2-0 by Shippensburg University, the Cavs defeated Franklin Pierce University 5-1 in the second game. Walsh returns to North Canton for their home opener on Wednesday, when they host Lewis University in a double header at 3 pm.

Shippensburg (14-2) held the Cavs to three hits in the opener. Casi Rohr (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) was touched for two runs in the bottom of the sixth in taking the loss, falling to 5-4.

Walsh's three-run fifth proved to be the difference against Franklin Pierce (1-5). The Cavs snapped a 1-1 tie with three fifth inning tallies. They would add a run in the sixth. Anna Anderson (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) was 3-3 with a double and two RBI. She singled home Walsh's first run in the second, and doubled a run home in the fifth. Marissa Bondoni (So., Alliance, OH/HS) picked up the win in relief tossing four scoreless innings. Bondoni is 4-1.
