3.17.12 BASEBALL: Cavs Split at Findlay

(Findlay, OH) Walsh (7-10) split a double header at the University of Findlay (5-5) today.  The Cavs erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning on their way to 16-0 win in game one.  Findlay earned the split with a 2-1 win in the nightcap.  The two teams meet again tomorrow in a twin bill at noon.

Walsh led 3-0 when they put nine runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning.  The Cavs had plenty of hitting stars in their 16-hit attack.  Forrest Boggs (Jr., Suffield, OH/Field/Mercyhurst) was 5-5 with three doubles and three RBI.  Tim Stinson (Jr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) had a two-run homer and three RBI and Jake Palidar was 2-4 with three RBI.  Tyler Jones (Sr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) and Andy DePeel (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) each had two hits, with DePeel driving in two runs.  David Roper (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) improved to 2-1 with a two-hit shutout.  He fanned six, walked only one, and surrendered two singles.

Billy Gura (Sr., Sagamore Hills, OH/St. Peter Chanel) was the tough luck loser in the nightcap falling to 2-2.  He scattered six hits in his complete game effort.  Findlay scored two runs in the third inning. Walsh scored their only run in the seventh, but left the bases loaded.
