3.17.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Split with 15th Ranked Grand Valley
Softball, 2012-03-17
Walsh (10-8) split a double header with future Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference opponent, and NCAA 15th ranked Grand Valley State University (13-3) today. Walsh won game one 5-1, but fell 2-1 in the nightcap. The Cavs are idle until Tuesday, when they travel to Ashland University, another GLIAC opponent, for a 2 pm twin bill.
Behind Erin Ebert’s (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) complete game effort Walsh captured game one 5-1. Grand Valley took a 1-0 lead on a solo homerun in third. Walsh then erupted for five runs in their half of the fifth inning with the help of three Grand Valley errors. Kayla Marcus (So., Bergholz, OH/Edison) singled to score Jenna Rosso (Sr., Amherst, OH/Steele), who reached base on an error, to tie the game. With the bases loaded, Chelsy Testa (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) delivered a bases clearing double to give the Cavs a 4-1 lead. Testa then stole third and scored on an error. Ebert allowed six hits in picking-up her fifth win (5-4) of the season.
In game two, Grand Valley’s Hannah Santora handcuffed the Cavs with a three-hit shutout in picking-up her fifth win of the season against only one loss. She fanned eight and walked two. The Lakers scored twice in the first on Katie Martin’s two-run single. Hanna Dodson (Fr., Newark, OH/Licking Valley) went distance for Walsh and falls to 2-2.
