3.17.12 MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: Cavs Finish Third in Stark Co. Championships

Walsh hosted the annual Stark County Championships with nearby schools Mt. Union and Malone also participating. The Purple Raiders took the contest with 171 points. The Pioneers scored 101.5 points to finish second, and the Cavaliers were third with 92.5.

The men had three first place finishers. Jordan Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:04.7. Dan Harsh (Sr., Perry, OH/HS) took first in the long jump with a distance of 21-02.5. Ryan Garrott (Sr., Georgetown, TX/HS) won the steeplechase with a time of 10:39.20.

Second place winners included Justin Groubert (Fr., Hartville, OH/Lake) in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:05 and Dan Opeka (Sr., Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) in the steeple chase with a time of 10:43.60. Third place finishers included L.J. Sutton (Sr., Youngstown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) in the triple jump with a distance of 40-10.25 and Phil Biedenbach (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) in the discus with a distance of 45.56.
