3.18.14 MEN'S LACROSSE: Cavs Well Represented In ECAC Weekly Honors

(CENTERVILLE, Mass.) – Four Cavaliers earned weekly ECAC Division II Men’s Lacrosse honors after Walsh picked up a thrilling 10-9 win over Young Harris last Monday. Nicholas Castorf (Fr., Holbrook, NY/Sachem) was named Offensive Player of the Week, Mark Guzik (Fr., Dublin, OH/Coffman) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week, and Dylan Ciolino (Fr., Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) was named Rookie of the Week. Mason Axline (Sr., Green, OH/HS) was also mentioned on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Castorf scored four goals in the Cavaliers' win over the Mountain Lions. He scored back-to-back goals on consecutive occasions with the first coming at the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second to make the score 4-1. The second came in similar fashion in the third and fourth periods to make the score 9-7.

Guzik played a strong game on the defensive end to limit Young Harris' scor­ing opportunities. He was the cause of four turnovers and did well changing the possession for Walsh with six ground balls in the win.

Ciolino was impressive in his first full half between the pipes in his collegiate career as he made nine saves and allowed three goals on 23 shots faced. As a result, Walsh was able to take a 6-3 lead into halftime en route to the win.

Axline was all over the field for Walsh as the senior was instrumental on the offensive end with the first goals in each half and assisted on two more. He also caused a turnover and picked up a game-high nine ground balls.

The Cavs will face their toughest test of the early season as they take on No. 12 Wheeling Jesuit in a battle of unbeatens tomorrow night in West Virginia. The Cardinals will enter at 4-0. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
