Softball, 2012-03-20

Walsh (10-10) lost twice at Ashland University (16-4) today by the scores of 2-1 and 5-3.  The Cavs are back in action tomorrow with a double header at Lake Erie College at 2:30 pm.

Walsh took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one as Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) scored on Chesly Testa’s (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) sacrifice fly.  Ashland tied the game in the bottom of the inning and scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of third.  Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) went the distance, allowing six hits and was tagged with the loss.  Her record is even at 5-5.

The Cavs couldn’t hold a 3-0 lead in game two.  Kendra Gerber (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) scored on a wild pitch to give Walsh a 1-0 lead in the second inning.  Kaleigh Cupka (Fr., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit) then singled to give the Cavs a 2-0 lead.  Walsh added a third run in the third on a Gerber double which scored Kayla Marcus (So.,  Bergholz, OH/Edison).  Ashland would score one run in the fourth inning, and tally three in the fifth in chasing Walsh starter Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS).  Hanna Dodson (Fr., Newark, OH/Licking Valley) worked the final 1.2 innings and was charged with the loss (2-3).
