(Ashland, OH) Walsh (9-10) edged Ashland University (8-6) 5-3 today. The Cavs are home to Baldwin-Wallace College for a double on Saturday and Canton-SUNY on Sunday.
Timely hitting and great pitching out of the bullpen paved the way for the win. Walsh trailed 1-0 when they scored twice in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Tim Stinson (Jr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) singled to tie the game and Forrest Boggs (Jr., Suffield, OH/Field/Mercyhurst) hit a sacrifice fly to put Walsh on top 2-1.
Ashland regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs and led 3-2. Walsh came right back with three runs in the fourth to close the scoring for the afternoon. Trevor Smith (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) stroked a double to tie the game and Stinson clubbed a two-run double to give the Cavs a 5-3 lead.
Billy Gura (Sr., Sagamore Hills, OH/St. Peter Chanel) came on in relief of starter Joe Tann (Fr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) and worked four scoreless innings to pick-up the win. Gura allowed only three hits and is 3-2 on the season. Ian Drapcho (So., Dover, OH/HS) worked a scoreless eighth inning and Zach Speer (Jr., Stow, OH/HS) pitched a one-two-three ninth, with two strikeouts, for his second save.
