3.21.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Sweep Lake Erie

(Painesville, OH) Walsh (12-10) took both ends of a double header from Lake Erie College (3-10) by the scores of 14-2 and 3-2 in nine innings. The Cavs are home to Carlow University for an American Mideast Conference double header on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Walsh had two five-run innings in the opener, as Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) won to improve her record to 6-5.  Ebert pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) came on in the fifth and finished up. Walsh scored five runs on five hits in the second inning, on RBI singles from Maggie Yavorsky (Sr., Norton, OH/HS), Calee Ruppel (Fr., Mogadore, OH/HS) and Kayla Marcus (So., Bergholz, OH/Edison).  Another run scored on a fielder’s choice and a Kendra Gerber (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) double. Walsh then scored two runs in each the fourth and sixth innings, and then iced the game with five runs in the seventh. Ruppel and Gerber each had three hits, with Gerber and Marcus each driving in three runs. Gerber had two doubles. Walsh banged out 15 hits, with Marcus, Yavorsky and Jenna Rosso (Sr., Amherst, OH/Steele) each having two hits.

Jenna Rosso drove in two runs in the nightcap, including the winning run with a double in ninth inning.  Walsh scored an unearned in the second inning and a Rosso single drove in a run in the fourth. Kelsey Ford picked up the win relief of Hanna Dodson (Fr., Newark, OH/Licking Valley) and is now 4-2 on the season. She pitched 4.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing only two hits, with four strikeouts.
