Baseball, 2014-03-22

Walsh (9-12, 1-2) mustered just five hits, and lost both games of a GLIAC double header to Hillsdale College (4-13, 2-1) at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium today. The Cavs were blanked 7-0 in game one, and 1-0 in the nightcap. The two teams wrap up the series at Munson Stadium tomorrow with a single, nine-inning game at 1:30 pm. The game will be broadcast live on TEAMLINE.

Hillsdale scored three runs in the first inning, and Charger starter Matthew Reck made them stand up in a 7-0 win in game one. Hillsdale added a single run in the second inning, and then put the game away with three runs in the sixth. Walsh had four hits, two by Brook Clark (So., Canton, OH/McKinley), who also walked. Joe Tann (Jr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) started for Walsh and took the loss falling to 1-3.

Walsh's Matt Iosue (Fr., Mayfield, OH/HS) and Hillsdale's Jake Lee hooked up in an old fashioned pitching duel in game two, with  Lee coming away with a 1-0 win. The only run came in the fourth inning on a two-out single to center by Nolan Breymaier. Walsh's only hit was a one out single in the second inning by Jason McPeek (So., Stow, OH/Munroe-Falls/Akron). Lee retired the final 16 batters. Iosue (0-4) went five innings, fanning six and allowing only three hits.
