3.23.13 BASEBALL: Cavs Split With Wayne State
(North Canton, OH) Walsh (7-5, 1-1) split their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference double header with Wayne State University (10-7,1-1) today. The Cavs won the opener 4-2, but fell 5-1 in the nightcap. The rubber game of the three game series is at Walsh at 1:30 tomorrow.
Forrest Boggs (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) went 3-3 with 3 RBI and Steve Wido (Sr., North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) had two hits and an RBI in the opener. Cavs' starter Jeff Kotlar (Sr., Euclid, OH/HS) went six strong innings to pick-up the win and improve to 2-0. Neal Edwards (So., Silver Lake, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) came on in the seventh for his first save of the year.
Boggs singled in the first inning to drive in Drew Link (Jr., Granville, OH/HS), and doubled in a run in the third, and singled in a run in the fourth.
Kotlar fanned five and scattered seven hits through six-plus innings. Edwards came on with runners at first and second and nobody out in the seventh and pitched out of the jam to record the save.
Wayne State chased Walsh starter, and loser, Zach Speer (Sr., Stow, OH/HS) in the second inning in the nightcap. The Warriros scored twice in the first inning and added three runs in the second. Speer (1-2) was charged with three runs. Joe Tann (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) relieved Speer and allowed two runs in the second, but nothing after that.
CAVS NOTES... Forrest Boggs was on base six straight times in the double header and is hitting .500 on 18-36. Boggs has two homers and 11 RBI and has been on base in each of the last 11 games.
