3.23.14 BASEBALL: Hillsdale Completes Sweep of Cavs

(CANTON, Ohio) Hillsdale (5-13, 3-1) completed a three-game sweep of Walsh (9-13, 1-3) with a 5-4 win in the final game of their GLIAC series at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadim today. The Cavs are back in action on Tuesday, when they are scheduled to host Malone University in a GLIAC twinbill at 1 pm.

Hillsdale scored four runs in the third inning against Walsh starter Jared Bettura (Jr., Canfield, OH/HS). Four hits, two walksw and an error produced the four-run third.

Walsh would answer, and tie the game with four runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning. Mike Lee (Sr., Barberton, OH/HS) singled to cut the lead to 4-1. Jordan Shank (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) then lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Jake Palidar (Sr., Wadsworth, OH/HS/Marietta) to trim the lead to 4-2. Walsh then tied the game on a double by Drew Link (Sr., Granville, OH/HS) and single by Justin Clements (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson).

Hillsdale took the lead in the seventh on a fielders choice, and then held on with Dan Pochmara getting the save.

Logan Bowles (R-Fr., Canton, OH/South/Ohio State) was charged with the loss, falling to 0-3. Sam Fondriest (Sr., New Philadelphia, OH/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) was on base three times with two walks and a single, but left the game in the top of the eighth inning after a collision at second base.
