Men's Lacrosse, 2013-03-24

(ERIE, Pa.) – Walsh played on the road at No. 1 Mercyhurst and lost by a score of 20-2 in ECAC action Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers (0-3, 0-2) were playing in their third consecutive game on the road to start the season and second straight game against a team ranked in the top 10 nationally. The Lakers improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

The Lakers showed why they are the nation’s top team as they shutout the Cavs in the first quarter while scoring nine goals. Walsh eventually got on the scoreboard with a pair of goals to start out the second quarter.

Ian Maurer (Jr., 6-2, Jackson Township, OH/HS) scored the Cavs’ first goal on an assist from Cody Stoll (Sr., 5-6, Jackson Township, OH/HS). Mason Axline (Jr., 5-7, Green, OH/HS) added another goal shortly after to make the score 9-2, but Mercyhurst answered with three goals to close the half.

Walsh will return to action and play in its home opener against Wilmington College in a non-conference affair. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
