Fondriest reached on a single to center, on an 0-2 pitch, before moving to second on a single by Drew Link (Jr., 5-10, Granville, OH/HS).

After Whitslar retired the side in the top of the sixth, Trevor Smith (Sr., 5-10, Parma, OH/Holy Name) scored on a double to left by R.J. Vukovich (Sr., 5-9, North Canton, OH/Hoover).

Neal Edwards (So., 6-2, Silverlake, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) came on in relief of Whitslar in the ninth inning. Malone cut the lead to 2-1, and then loaded the bases, before Edwards fanned Matt Davis to pick up his second straight save and third of the season.
