3.3.14 SOFTBALL: Cavs Win Split DH; Troxell Homers Twice in Opener

(CLERMONT,. FL) Walsh extended its winning streak to five games, with a sweep of a split double header at the CTS Sports Complex today. Walsh the opener 11-3 in five innings against Georgian Court University, and then blanked Notre Dame College (OH) 1-0 in game two.  The Cavs are idle tomorrow.

Walsh banged out 12 hits in the opener. The Cavs trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning when they erupted for four runs to take a 6-3 lead. They would added four more runs in the fourth inning, and one in the fifth in the five inning, 11-3 victory.

Walsh played long ball in the third inning, as Sam Troxell (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/SH/Youngstown State) homered to lead off the inning. Troxell would repeat the feat, this time a three-run blast in the fourth. She would finish the day 3-4 with four RBI. Marissa Bondoni (So., Alliance, OH/HS) and Presley Destro (Jr., Mogadore, OH/HS/Catawba) each had two hits. Bondoni had a pair of doubles and Destro had two RBI. Casi Rohr (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) went the distance, fanning five, to improve to 3-1.

Walsh scored an unearned run in the first inning of the nightcap, and Quartni Whited (Fr., Akron, OH/Springfield, OH/HS) made it stand up in the 1-0 win. Whited went the distance, tossing a two-hitter to win her first game of the season. Sam Troxell scored the games' only run.
