3.30.13 BASEBALL: Cavs Split DH With GLIAC Leader Ashland; Take Series

(North Canton, OH) After falling 5-3 in game one of a double header with GLIAC leader Ashland Unversity (17-6, 6-2), Walsh (11-8, 5-4) rallied for a 5-3 win in the nightcap to take the three-game series. The Cavs have posted wins in four of the last five games. Walsh is now idle until Tuesday, when they begin a three-game series in Michigan against Northwood University. The series will be played at Adrian College, in Adrian, Michigan.

Ashland scored twice in the first inning of the opener, and then added single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings in posting the 5-1 victory. Trevor Smith (Sr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) drove in Walsh's only run with a second inning double. Cavs starter David Roper (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) went 5.2 innings and suffered the loss.

After spotting Ashland a 3-0 second inning lead in the nightcap, Walsh rallied for five runs in third inning, and held on for the 5-3 win. John Stephenson (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) delievered a bases loaded single to cut the Eagles lead to 3-2. Jordan Shank (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) then followed with a single to tie the game, and Michael Lee (Jr., Barberton, OH/HS) then stroked a two-run double to center put the Cavs ahead 5-3.

Danny Roper (So., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) relieved Cavs' starter Ian Drapcho (Jr., Dover, OH/HS) in the fourth and worked two scoreless innings to record his first victory of the season. Zach Speer (Sr., Stow, OH/HS) worked a scoreless one-thrid of an inning and Neal Edwards (So., Silver Lake, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) worked the seventh to pick-up his fourth save of year and third of the week.
