Softball, 2013-03-30

(Caledonia, MI) Walsh (7-7, 0-4) lost a pair of one-run games to Ferris State University (13-7, 6-2) in a GLIAC twinbill today. The Cavs are back in action on Tuesday, when they face Malone University in a road GLIAC double header, and then turnaround and travel to the University of Charleston on Wednesday for two games.

The Cavs lost 3-2, in eight innings, in the opener. Walsh scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. A Chesly Testa (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) ground ball in the first inning scored Dane Brown (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) with the Cavs first run. Brown scored the Cavs second run when she tripled to lead off the third inning, and then game home on a Kayla Marcus (Jr., Bergholz, OH/Edison) single. FSU tied the game with two runs in the fifth inning, and scored the winning run in the eighth on a hit batsmen with the bases loaded. Erin Ebert (Sr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) went 7.1 innings and was charged with the loss. Brown was 2-3 with a walk.

Ferris State scored the games only run in the fourth inning of game two to complete to sweep.  Casi Rohr (So., Massillon, PH/Perry/Toledo) went the distance and fanned seven, but was the tough luck loser. Walsh managed just three hits in the nightcap.
