3.30.13 WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Cavs Win Washington & Jefferson Invite; 4x400 Team Sets Meet Mark

Walsh had one of its strongest meets of the season as it won the Washington & Jefferson Invitational that featured 11 total schools. The Cavaliers finished with 155 points, 27.5 better than the second place and hosting Presidents.

Of the 20 events that were scored, the Cavs had first place finishers in five of the events. The Cavs’ 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Carley Adams (Sr., Louisville, OH/HS), Carly Walters (Jr., Twinsburg, OH/Trinity), Sarah Martter (Jr., Peninsula, OH/Woodridge), and Allison Swarny (Sr., Bolivar, OH/Tusky Valley) set a meet record with a time of 4:05.30. The previous record was 4:06.72 set by Penn State-Behrend in 2011. Annie Wise (Fr., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:27.68, just a few seconds ahead of teammate Martter who finished second place.

In the field events, Walsh had a trio of winners. Leah Beatty (Sr., Enon Valley, PA/Mohawk) won the shot put with a distance of 12.15 meters, Shannon Montgomery (Fr., Newton Falls, OH/HS) won the discus with a distance of 36.01 meters, and Kayla Braun (Jr., Hudson, OH/HS) won the javelin with a distance of 30.67 meters.

Walsh will compete close to home next week as the Cavs make the short trek to Alliance to compete in the Mt. Union “John Homon Open” on Saturday, April 6.
