3.4.13 BASEBALL: Bases Loaded Walk Sends Cavs to First Loss

(Clearwater, FL) After rallying to tie the game twice, a bases loaded walk in the bottom of seventh inning was the difference in Rockhurst University (1-0) posting a 7-6 win over the Cavs (2-1) today at Jack Russell Stadium. The Cavs are back in action tomorrow, facing Southeastern in a double header starting at noon.

Rockhurst scored three runs in the first inning and one in second off of Walsh starter David Roper (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton). The Cavs would rally and tie the game with four runs in the fourth.  Forrest Boggs (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) second homer of the year, a two-run shot, knotted the game.

Rockhurst would regain the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before the Cavs rallied to tie the game with two runs in the sixth.

The Hawks would score the winning run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk.

The Cavs would leave two runners in scoring position in the ninth.

Boggs, Justin Clements (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson), Andy DePeel (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) and RJ Vukovich (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) each had two hits and Sam Fondriest (Jr., Dover, OH/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) drove in two runs. Clements, DePeel and Vukovich each had doubles.

Cory Johnston (Sr., Medina, OH/Highland) was charged with the loss in relief.
