3.4.13 MEN'S BASKETBALL: Kornowski Earns GLIAC South Player of Week Honors for Third Time
Men's Basketball, 2013-03-04
Walsh University senior Kenny Kornowski (6-9, Marshallville, OH/Smithville) has been named GLIAC South Player of the Week for the third time this season. Kornowski averaged 26.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as Walsh upset GLIAC North Leader Wayne State University last Thursday and then defeated rival Malone University for the 27th time in the last 30 meetings last Saturday at Alumni Arena. The win over Malone enabled the Cavs to retire the coveted Mayor’s Cup for a record sixth time.
Kornowski shot 64% from the field in the two games. His two free throws with nine seconds to play provided the final 81-78 margin in the win over Wayne State. He scorched the nets to the tune of 31 points vs. Wayne State, and followed that with 22 against Malone.
Kornowski finished the season averaging 20.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and shot 57% from the field.
Kornowski and Malone’s Isiah Elliott were only players in the GLIAC South to earn GLIAC South POW honors three times.
